Thanks a lot for everyone's responses! I understand that's what differentiates IB as a Qunari from the others. But I don't do perma-tops or perma-doms. If he can't accept me needing anything else sexually, and if he can't meet that need then I have to move on. Conversely, I don't think I'd be able to satisfy him either. Talk about sexual incompatibility :'(

Incidentally, if you break it off with him before the necklace, he'll comment on the waitresses. If it was after, he doesn't. (Sample size: 4)

Understandable. You aren't the only one who was disappointed by it, I'm sorry about it though. I do kinda wish it was optional so more people who were looking forward to it didn't feel that way and got to experience the romance. I hope you can enjoy Dorian's romance. He's hilarious and sweet just like Bull without that aspect. ^_^

A question for everyone:

What's one thing that you liked the most about the Iron Bull? Whether it's his personal quest, his romance, his personality, his relationship with the Chargers, his sexy self, whatever it is, what do you like most about him? Specificity is key!

But Dorian supposedly is a bottom, so you have a choice between top and bottom... which kind of irks me because it forces you into a role you may not feel comfortable with. I feel they should have left what they do in the bedroom up to the imagination.

Regarding the "safe word" though... I have had two romance scenes with Bull and no mention of a safe word. He was very gentle and said that if he did anything that bothered me I could just tell him to stop, and he would. This made sense to me because he's very big (and I'm a tiny elf) and he was just being a considerate lover. I didn't get that he intended to strap me to my bed and gag me LOL But I also chose some "cute" responses instead of the "take me" responses, so perhaps that is why I never got the safe word option.

I think if you are sexually aggressive, and he realizes this, he's more inclined to lay some ground rules.

Whereas if you just want to be a love bug with him he doesn't feel the need to say such things.

Personality definitely! I love characters who don't hide who they really are and have a great sense of humor. ^_^ But his relationship with the Chargers also really got to me, that's how you realize that underneath all that talk he's really a sensitive sweetheart. That and his romance haha.

Oh really? I didn't know about that, I haven't romanced Dorian yet myself but I find his personality very endearing and he was definitely my femquisitors best friend, they got along splendidly. She even took up necromancy... well, I had planned for her to before starting the game, but I like to headcanon that she respected him so much that she chose that spec to understand him more haha. Too bad most of the companions weren't really fond of that choice. XD; Oh well, Solas and Dorian understood me!

And that's interesting! I'll have to romance him again soon with a shyer and more cutesy Inquisitor...for science! xD But to be honest even with the watchword talk and stuff, he never seemed extreme to me at all either, and no matter which way you choose to roleplay your quizzie's personality it becomes evident that he's really gentle and considerate as a lover, which I find sweet despite whatever bdsm elements are implied. It definitely wasn't totally 50 shades of bull, even though the joke is kinda funny lol.

So guys... In the Fade. Brought Iron Bull.

Spoiler

LOL. I don't think I got that line sadly even though I was in a romance! I think I got something like "You're a traitor to your own kind" or something to that effect, but that's hilarious! I wish I did. xD

Oh, I apologize for the double post but there;s been something on my mind. So, those two hilariously perverted lines mentioned in the ESRB ratings. We know Bull says one of them. Has anyone found out who says the other one?

Spoiler

So curious. lol.

In that case, it's probably romance related. I hadn't given him the Dragon's tooth yet, but I was definitely riding the Bull. Or maybe it's the other way around, given his romance, but that's was said to me, more or less.

That's brilliant ahahaha. Dang, I wonder why I didn't get it. :P I was definitely in the romance by that time. but I hadn't given him the tooth yet either. I didn't do that till almost the very end... glad I finally noticed that dialogue. xD

So curious. lol.

I have no idea where that comes in. I killed the dragon while romancing Bull, and all he told my femQuizzie
Spoiler
So I don't know if they deleted that line or its somewhere else, but if anyone knows where it is supposed to be said, I'd love to know.

I agree with this part for sure.  Dorian suggests (it's subtle, but I picked up on the hint) that the Inquisitor can "inquisit me again and this time I'll tell you what to do" or something to that effect.  It seems like he's a bit of a bossy bottom.  Iron Bull is a total top.  While I'm not offended that they chose to have the characters identify this way, I'm a bit surprised that they 'went there'.  It's not the end of the world, but it's surprising.

My problem is going to be when I romance Bull (<-- the guy in my avi is the lucky dwarf to #ridethebull).  I don't see that character as a bottom, but it sounds like I'm not going to have much of a choice in the matter.  Again, not the end of the world, but not what I suspecting.  I'm definitely excited to see how it goes.

Only did one playthrough so far and romanced Dorian, so I can only speak of Bull from a "bro" perspective.  I really liked his fierce devotion to the Chargers.

Spoiler
That kind of devotion from a commander to his charges is amazing to see.

I also loved how adorably geeked out he gets when you kill dragons with him.  I brought him on all ten dragon hunts because he just got so damned giddy that I felt bad leaving him behind.

That Dwarf is handsome-looking daveliam, great job! I think it's interesting, like you said, that they sort of picked "roles" for the two male/male romances, Dorian being a bottom and Iron Bull being a top. I can see why that might upset some people though, especially since it wasn't known beforehand, and the way they go about it can sort of clash with what one might have in mind for their Inquisitor. Luckily, I was quite alright with my Qunari subbing for Bull; I found his caring to be sweet, and it fit it nicely with my roleplay in my head, that Bull would "take care of" the Inquisitor off the field, let him relax, support him, etc. I understand why some people had problems with it though! Having heard that Dorian bottoms, I created my male Elf to be more "aggressive" (for lack of a better word) and I can't wait to see how his romance goes!

As far as Bull, his devotion to the Chargers is wonderful, like you said! Its great to see a Qunari who is quite different from the ones we've seen before, in the forms of Sten and the Arishok, among others. His excitement about killing dragons is cute as hell too <3

I think it's totally different with Dorian. You have one line that suggests it and nothing that says they don't switch it up. While with Bull he's very clear about being not only always the top but a dom and when you ask him if you two could ever do it differently he flat out says no.

Oh that's funny lol I didn't know you could ask him that, and then his response... LOL Okay, Bull ;) *whispers* Wimp!

Okay, good to know about Dorian. I had a friend who wanted to romance him and she was disappointed to hear that her inquisitor would be forced into that role. I just don't think it belongs in the game. If I romance Cullen is he going to sit me down and explain his stance on dildos? I imagine not. Let's just have romances be sweet and leave the rest up to the imagination ;)

*CRASHES INTO THE THREAD* Fellow Bull rider here! I am late to this party :P

Lets see... I had no opinion on Bull at first, I was never a huge fan of Qunari to begin with, didn't care for the fact he was romancable and didn't think I'd ever bring him along on my travels aside from a quick test run.

Boy, how I changed my mind XD Or rather, how he changed it by being his big adorable self.

I was gonna romance Dorian first, and then Cullen, and perhaps do Bull for a third play through... and then I actually got to recruit him for the first time. Needless to say, he surprised me a lot and I ended up romancing him with my very first (and so far only) Inquisitor. And I'm quite liking the whole dom thing actually. I haven't had a need to regret it ^_^ How can I not love this big dork.

It's gotta be his personality. I honestly expected Bull to be this stereotype muscle head... but underneath all that mass and the intimidating appearance, and when he's not bashing in heads, he's just a really sweet gentle guy who cares so much about his Chargers, it's really endearing and I love it. Ugh, and when he goes into fanboy mode when you fight a dragon!

And the fact that while yes, he's top and there's no way that's gonna change (don't want him to anyway), he made it so very clear that the Inquisitor's comfort comes first, like that's the most important thing to him. Not his own needs, no, but the Inquisitor's needs. I really like that.

I love his sense of humor too, he's hilarious with Varric.

And of course nothing tops the... 'blinding Cullen' scene XDDD

I just wish I'd get actual party banter about the romance. After the fourth romance scene (where you can tease him about marriage and listen to him sputter) I haven't heard anything, not even one single comment from the others aside from one line from Krem. I was so looking forward to that but... ugh, this stupid bug.

Welcome to the Bull riders! I loved everything you said; it all summed up how I feel about him perfectly ;D

As far as the dialogue and bug go, I don't actually think there is any romance dialogue from other companions, besides what Krem says. Atleast, I don't think I have that bug, and I didn't get any comments from my allies about the romance ;(

There is. I listened to all the party banter between Bull and Sera - I don't care about Sera anyway so, no spoilers for me there XD... - but she did ask if he and the (male) Inquisitor were together. And he asked her about her relationship with the Femquisitor twice. So yeah, it's not much but it is there.

So my first play through i made a black haired female mage and didnt really use Iron bull at all but now I am on a second play through and I noticed something with my female mage elf Im playing that has red hair.

He has a thing for red heads.

So I havnt tested it to be sure but one of the first things he commented on about my character when i was recruiting him was how he wanted to join the inquisition because he had a thing for red heads.  I don't remember him ever saying anything like that with any of my other female characters I made and took part way into the game recruiting him, does he change it based on hair color like he has a thing for blonds, brunettes, etc?

If not then hes a red head lover and it isn't just game mechanics.

When he says the redhead line he's referencing Leliana. :D Well, the one when you recruit him, at least. I think he has another comment on it at some point as well. But he seems to like reheads, it's funny haha. My mage who romanced him had black hair. Sorry Bull, you loved me anyway. :P As for specific dialogue, my favorite was when he was taking to me about Krem, saying we all have something about us that people would consider weird, like me being able to "shoot fire out of my ass". XD

Yeah he has a confirmed thing for red heads XD My friend, who is not romancing him got a line where he said "I don't miss home that much, it's all the same. Besides, you have red heads. *sigh* Aaaaah red heads" or something like that. He also mentions the red headed servant girl a few times, wondering where she is.

My elf is a red head too, and I had no idea Bull was into that when I made him... but hey, I love how it just fits! ^_^

Count me in as someone else who was a little disappointed that you could only bottom for Bull.  I wanted my Inquisitor to dom the hell outta him, personally.

Oh well...even so, his romance still blew away all my expectations -- and believe me, they were quite high...and now I fear that I will never again experience an in-game romance as nigh perfect as his was.
