i know i did. i think the whole casual-commited transition happens WAY too quickly. this turmoil part would be great to ease into commited relationship and get to know him better.

So now I've gone through all scenes with Iron Bull up untill Demands of the Qun (saved Chargers) (and killed some dragons), however I do not get any further dialogue options with him, nor does his approval ever go up (not when killing more dragons, doing war table missions regarding him/chargers, killing Venatori in Hissing Wastes). 

 

On a side note, when I talk to Dorian, I get the option to get back together with him: this does nothing. When I talk to him again, I get the same option to get back together (meaning this option doesn't work either). 

 

Am I missing something or is this just a (known) bug?

Sounds like you've maxed his approval. How far are you with the main story? I'm pretty sure ( someone correct me if i'm wrong) you need to have finished certain stages of the plot for his scenes.

I did the Grey Warden main quest, but still had Dorian romanced at that point.. Might do the Ball one then, thanks

I was able to start up his romance on my second playthrough before the warden or ball quests, but I have seen someone else saying after dumping Dorian they were having problems starting Bull's romance... I fear it actually may be a glitch. :c Hope not though, keep trying and let us know.

The thing I've noticed with Iron Bull is that he becomes significantly more difficult to romance if you

give the mages total freedom or disband the Templars.

 

Even so, what you describe does sound like a bug.  Completing Iron Bull's personal quest and killing a dragon with him in your party should have been enough.  Even though I had committed one of the "sins" I listed in my previous spoiler tag, I was still able to romance him

That's a good point about the flirts, maybe the romance will start after the Orlesian ball quest if  you choose the flirt option you get in his after mission commentary

I have the feeling some of the companion states get messed up at random with this game. Some just stop interacting even while gaining approval, and they are nowhere near the end of their personal storylines.

So when I was looking for smutty fanfic the other night (thank you SO much to certain people who's names I shall not mention, shameless enablers), I came across one that bothered me a bit. Basically the Quizzie in that story comes across Bull while he's talking to Varric and Dorian and saying how people are like animals, and then goes on to compare the Quizzie to a horse that needs to be tamed. Then he does some sort of snake-charming thing to the Quizzie and Varric gives Dorian some cash because apparently he lost a bet as to whether or not Bull could "charm" her. Then he says something along the lines of her needing to be broken and tamed.

 

I found it pretty offensive myself. That's just downright rude. I know that's just a fanfic, but if that had been in the romance, there's no way I would have gone through romancing him. People are not animals, and even in fiction I find the idea appalling. Plus, this is the Inquisitor. He's talking about how she's a mare that needs taming in front of the troops? There would have been an ass-kicking of epic proportions in order based on that alone.

 

So, what's everyone else's opinion on that? Sound offensive or does it not bother you? I personally tend to relate to all my PCs, so I get pretty into it when this sort of thing comes up, since they'll probably react like me.

I found it on Fanfiction.net. Yeah, maybe offensive was the wrong word to apply to it entirely, but I personally found it tasteless. People are not things to be broken. Even suggesting such a thing gets me worked up.

I was perfectly fine with riding the Bull because you can headcanon how the *ahem* intimate moments go, and he was never in any way disrespectful or aggressive or rude to the Quizzie in conversation. He seems to have the highest respect for them, actually, which made me feel very good with his romance and helped me to enjoy it that much more.

I guess it's the same issue I have with 50 Shades of Grey (aside from the fact that it's disgusting and has serious trigger moments with rape); unless there's equal respect, there's no way I'm going to like it. Any relationship, fictional or not, where either partner looks at the other like an object that needs to be fixed or adjusted or "broken" really, really bothers me.

Ugh, that's pretty bad. But not surprising unfortunately, given the romance with Bull already seems pretty divisive among people... of course there will be fanfiction that takes it to a completely different level. I understand people not liking how it works in game but at least he's honest and respectful about it, whereas with that all of the respect is completely lost. If others like it though, that's their choice, but I'd never read something like that.

 

oh also on a happier subject, working on the fanart in SAI as we speak. About halfway done, but Josie's face is giving me a hard time. Which is weird because I'm very happy with how Bull's face turned out on my first try despite him being so different from what I usually draw. xD

I really don't think most people know what a consensual BDSM relationship is. Most people only have 50 shades of complete and utter crap to base their knowledge on. There's not liking it and then there's not understanding it, if they're using 50 shades as some sort of guide then misinterpretation is inevitable. The thing about the bits of fic you mention, IB sounds incredibly OOC, there is no way bull would be discussing with others that aspect of his relationship with the inquisitor. If they paid attention to him and what that aspect of their relationship is all about they'd know that.

Yeah, he explicitly tells Varric in banter that his relationship with the Quizzie is private between the two of them- when Cole brings it up in his banter, Bull lets the Quizzie handle it however they please. His primary goal (which he will also tell you outright) is to provide the Quizzie with a break from responsibilities and duties where they can have someone else take care of him/her for a change. It's not to turn them into a simpering sex-slave or anything even remotly close to that.

I was fairly wary of his romance when I first heard about the details. But they wrote him beautifully in my opinion, and I have no issues with his romance at all. I just hate it when people twist it around to something that it isn't, because it gives people who don't play the game a false impression of how it's supposed to be. Remember Fox News and Mass Effect...

Unfortunately I did the whole romance, dragons tooth, Cullen scene and all- but I still have the 'saved the Charger' tarot card. Do I need to complete the Grey Warden quest to get it? I've just been doing all my companion's side quests and hunting dragons just incase further story progress locks me out of anything (I have gotten so overleveled it's silly).

No. 50 Shades was incredibly disturbing with the behaviors of Christian Grey in reguard to the girl (whatever her name was). Iron Bull's romance was nothing like that.

One of my good friends has severe triggers regarding rape with those books due to a past experience she had. She played through IB's romance and didn't have a problem. So, yeah, pretty different in that reguard.

I don't know enough about the inner workings of Dorian and IB's romance to make a statement on that. All we have is one top/bottom comment to go by. But they both seem happy in later conversations sooo... hooray, I guess.

From what I understand, the Chargers card is very similar to the Qun card, so you may have not noticed that you do have the Chargers card; I know you don't get the romance card until later in the game.

I'm not sure when the card changes to the romanced one. I believe someone said it was before or after the Arbor Wilds mission.

 

I would know, but I restarted my game because my experiment playthrough wasn't doing too well. Plus, my first Quizzie looked weird. But if I should happen to find out, I will let you know.

There's one more scene after the dragon tooth/funny scene. I believe you initiate it by talking to him and picking a special flirt option. After that one, you should have the card. I completed the romance really early in game on my new playthrough and already had the card before even doing the adamant quest.

lol I don't know. I couldn't get past the first chapter and haven't gone back since. But if you like it, yay for you. At least you have smutty IB fiction that you can enjoy, lucky duck. I'm having to write my own.
