So about Bull's magical mysterious vanishing tattoos of wonder, I think this is safe for work but putting it in spoilers just in case.

I wish you could set tactics as completely as you could in the previous DA's. The whole choice being nothing but >defend >pick a character, or >follow, >pick a character, just seems really basic and not very helpful at all.

 

I usually set set Bull to attack what my characters attacking, and then be mindful to remember to attack things that are ganking my squishies so that he will pick them up too. Seems to work pretty decent!

 

I really want to read the interviews, but when I started through them I realized how spoilerific it is, and I haven't finished the game yet so I will wait until later to watch, haha.

 

I totally agree about that ending though. I'll never hurt the Chargers. Yes, it throws Bull into a crisis of faith. But I feel like having his people, the Chargers and the Inquisitor, is enough to make him realize things aren't so bad away from the Qun. :3

This is just a hey all before I go back to lurking, but regarding Dorian/Bull...I have no issues with it, even if it's interpretated as a darker romance. Then again, I'm not one for fluff. The amount of anger though...on tumblr and here on the forums is a little ridiculous, imo. And it seems those who ship them are outnumbered by the vocal majority who think it's gross or harmful or whatnot.

Anyway, my two cents. I think Bull is great. I think Dorian is awesome. I think Dorian is a big boy and if he really didn't want a relationship, he wouldn't have initiated it (because it's always implied that he goes to Bull first). It's a multilayered relationship that's very adult in nature, and it doesn't help that the game only gives a glimpse of what goes on between them. Much of it is up to the player's interpretation.

I say bring on the fanfic, fluff and dark. I'll read them all.

I actually feel it's a vocal minority actually. Especially if that thread was any indication. (Then again tumblr does get upset over everything so maybe it's a majority over there).

 

But ugh tumblr. I did read an awesome defense of it there so at least tumblr's good for something.

(also I love how we pretty much ignore Cole the goddamn compassion spirit who actually likes hanging around Bull. Would he really do so if Bull was abusive towards Dorian? Something tells me no he wouldn't.)

There is a lot of game beyond a few banter lines that attests to Iron Bull's character. I will go off of that, instead of people's personal interpretation of only a few lines that I personally interpret very differently.

 

I've given up on trying to see eye to eye with people who are determined to be offended by things. My solution is to provide as much positive feedback/fanfiction to the Bullrider community as possible, and hope that it counters some of the negative against the poor guy.

 

As Bullriders, we have a good example of *ahem*, being the bigger man. ;D

Someone in that thread had a very good point.  Even if Bull / Dorian was abusive (which it's not), it's still fiction, and it's how the devs would want to tell their story.  The ones who condemn Bull / Dorian, protesting its existence in the canon just because they don't like it, are the exact same ones who purport to stand against creative censorship.  Pretty hypocritical if you ask me.

 

And those people who would go so far as to project their real life situations onto a fictional setting...I'm sorry, but if they're truly serious then there's something deeply wrong going on there.  They should be doing something else other than criticizing a fictional relationship because it wounds them so gravely -- like seeking professional help.

Heh heh, after I got that final sex scene for the first time, I reloaded and chose the "I'm just a job to you!?" response just to see what would happen.

 

Although it put a bit of awkwardness on the relationship, at the same time it made the scene feel more...real.  I mean, it was a fair reaction from the Inquisitor, after all.  I didn't mind it since I always understood where Bull was coming from, but I could see how it could upset some folks.

 

Plus, the pissy face that the Inquisitor gives Bull was pretty epic.  XD

I can never seem to kill the Hinderlands dragon no matter what stinking level I am. I might try for it again this round even though I'm a puny rogue. I keep taking control of my mages because I'm so used to playing as one, lol. It's how I finally beat Fiona after choosing the templars (which felt wrong to me because I'm pro mage, and in comparison, I liked the Hushed Whispers mission best) at level 8. I knew it was going to be difficult, but damn, Fiona, spam your Lightning Circle of Doom all day why don't you?

And on the subject of the romances in general, it seems many do not have a perfect happy ending.

I only know of a few final scenes, but it seems Cassandra leaves is she's divine, Solas leaves (of course), Dorian talks about leaving, Sera makes you choose between religion or her (not sure if this only happens to elves or not)...and Blackwall....geez, talk about not knowing someone. Not sure about Cullen or Bull since I haven't watched them on Youtube. I think Josephine is the only...normal one? I always flirted with her, but eh, never followed through.

It adds to the realism, but boy, some of them really kick you in the gut.

Unfortunately, there's an opposite argument from a very popular blog that has 3k + likes and reblogs. *sigh* And it's based on his/her interpretation of banter in the game, particularly the "I. Would. Conquer. You." bit - that I actually found pretty damn arousing to hear in game (cause yeah, mental images), and Dorian never seems..."against" anything Bull says or does. At most...he expresses exasperation. Bluster. That's about it. And I took Dorian's flippant answer of "no, I wasn't thinking of that", as yes, he WAS thinking of that. Dorian's word choices to begin that convo imply it: heaving, beast, conquest? Seems like a setup to me.

Again, interpetations. How widely they differ when hearing the same thing. It's astounding sometimes.

Dorian tries to dance around the fact that he's attracted to Bull, it's much easier to talk him down and insult him because that's natural for Dorian and Bull doesn't exactly leave you wondering what you're getting into.

 

Bull doesn't mess around, he just gets straight to the point. It's a great, interesting dynamic. It's a common trope in a lot of things like anime and tv series. The whole tsundere/rivalmance thing isn't exactly new, and people trying to get offended about it are just looking for things to get offended about, or inflicting their personal problems on others enjoyment so that they can feel morally superior or something.

 

I, for one, would be quite happy to squirm around in Bull's grip and be conquered. Multiple times. The entire banter that he said to Dorian was amazing. Why doesn't he talk dirty like that to the Inquisitor!

 

I also didn't take the screenie, just found it, but yessss. I felt the same about it.

 

Something I found last night kind of reinforced everything in my mind for me, so I don't feel the least bit bad about shipping Iron Bull and Dorian anymore. It comes from Cole, who is of course, the explainer of all things psyche.

(If the Inquisitor is in a romance with Dorian)

    Cole: You're happier now, Dorian.
    Dorian: Is that what that light, tingly feeling is? I suppose you're right.
    Cole: Wishing but wondering, wounded and wistful. What if he doesn't want me after?
    Dorian: But he did.
    Cole: Now you're smiling! It's good.

 

I still haven't romanced Dorian, but thanks to the ridiculous amount of spoilers that have come up in all the Bull arguments, it's clear that he's a lot more tender than he lets on. If he sat there worrying about whether or not the Inquisitor would still want him, how is it surprising that he would feel concerned that after he was with Iron Bull, Bull wouldn't just toss him out with the trash and move on?

 

I'm pretty sure that Bull announcing their relationship, being proud and content and confident with it, is exactly Bull's way of handling those insecurities. He doesn't write love poems and send flowers, but he's definitely making it clear that his interest in Dorian hasn't waned a bit. He's being easy and confident about it like there isn't a thing to be ashamed of, and for someone like Dorian, that's important.

 

Bull gives people what they need. He's doing it with Dorian the same way he did it with the Inquisitor, even though their needs are completely different. That's just Bull. He doesn't necessarily do things in the most conventional of manners, but his heart is in the right place and that's what counts! :3
