I thought Aveline would be higher on my list, personally. I guess my new-found love for Krem and my Scout Harding obsession pushed some people down. I found it amusing Lady of the Forest snuck into my top 20. xD

Love Carver, his friendship is the bestest T_T  I think he got such good character development while Bethany is just kind of there. I really liked Gamlen too (way more than Leandra) and thought he was such a complex and real character though I don't like him more than dat bull!

I didn't like him or Leandra really. Gamlen was very realistic though but realistic in the "if only I could punch you in the face." way. I did feel sorry for him after all that remains though. That was rough

I read a lot of m/m romance/smut (pretend you don't know this about me) and I've read quite a few with BDSM elements, both implicit or vague like the Magpie Lord series (which are extremely good books btw, you have to leave and read them right now) and explicit like the Administration series (which is good, and not just for a freebie just good) and When All the World Sleeps so I was looking forward to Bull's romance and I've gotten the first scene and where he lays out the rules and I dunno...

 

I don't know if it's the VA because hearing my Inquisitor saying 'take me' in those ridiculously breathy tones or 'a bit slower and a lot harder' is so OTT as to be eyeroll inducing. I think that plays a role but it's also this initial setup of the dynamic. I know the sub is, yah know, submissive but that doesn't imply passive and the dom doesn't have to be so patronizing. It's a dynamic, a duality, the sub is giving the dom what he needs (even though that's never actually acknowledged) just as much as the reverse.

 

Now I know fanthreads tend to be sensitive so lemme be clear: I am not criticizing the romance or saying something is wrong with it. Well, actually I am. But that just means it's wrong for me, which might be as much issues with my interpretation as anything. There's nothing objectively bad about it.

They could have definitely gone into much greater lengths to make it more accurate/fitting etc, as far as the dialogue options and the like goes. I would have been overjoyed if they had done a few things differently, or a few things more extensively, etc. But the way I see it? It's a BDSM relationship in a main stream video game. We're damn lucky we got it at all. We're damn lucky they didn't just have Bull be some ******* standard Dom like you see in shitty interpretations of the lifestyle all the time.

 

What we got isn't perfect, but it's the best I've ever gotten from a video game, and so I'm happy. They leave things out and there's lots of fade to blacks, so it leaves a lot of room to fill in the blanks with your own variation of it, which for some people is a lot different than others, depending on exposure/understanding of the lifestyle.

 

As far as his general personality goes, he starts out like a hardass, but he's squishy and mushy and adorable by the end of the romance so I'm content to let head canon do the rest. ♥

 

 

 

Also. I always let Carver die in the deep roads so that it would be Fenris that I got to rescue from that one side mission. ... And now in DA:I, in the fear scene it was something along the lines of "All your family is deaddddd. Fenris is going to die tooooo. Then you will be aloneeeee." ...poor Hawke. D: ...Iregretnothing.

I think the American Voice is the first one on the slider.

Iron Bull is a fun romance. I live the bit when you choose "Was that a proposal?" LOL Gotcha Bull.

 

As for a top 10 I don't have a top 10 but, I didn't care for the romance with Merril or Isabella at all. Josephine and Dorian are both too tame for my tastes. Solas is boring for me, I wouldn't even consider Sera, Cullen is cute but, still not me. Anders was okay, had a dangerous edge at least. Cassandra isn't too bad but, still too vanilla. SO far Bull is the best one and, yes some things could have made it more accurate, such as establishing if it's Dom/Sub or Master/Slave - clearly is not a Daddy Dom situtaion thankfully, that is my one hard limit. Still it's a great romance if that's your thing.
