Yes! As my story ideas usually come to me while I'm dreaming (Lucid dreamer, comes in handy for story planning!), I dreamed up the sexytime-scene I wanted to attach to this last night. Sooo it'll be some more time before I have another fanfiction to throw down onto the pile. But at least when I do toss it out, it'll have sexytimes too!

Sounds wonderful. :) Too bad I currently have way too many books on my plate to add any fanfiction.

I have all kinds of original stories I want to work on someday™. But I have a much easier time writing fanfiction, and Iron Bull's personality is a lot like some of my favorite characters from my stories so it all works out nicely!

Plus...Iron Bull...hnngh.

I has a question.

I really want to write Iron Bull, but I have no friggin idea how to do it. I have so much trouble trying to find the voice for his character. Cause I want to write a fic with my Gale that romanced him.

Save+reload his dialogue whenever he explains anything to the Inquisitor and then replay those parts to get how he reasons and talks to the Inquisitor.

I don't know how good my grasp on him is compared to what the writers intended with him, but I try to keep it at least in the same tone that he uses with the Inquisitor in game.

Kind of a slow, blunt, lay out the facts in a somewhat merciless way, and then talk you around them until you accept it or get mad at him. >_>

So any tips on getting approval up with Iron Bull? I was planning on romancing him this play through but having a hard time getting my approval up with the guy. I remember no real decisions in which he has disagreed with me and I take him out with me most times I am out in the world.

I finished Adamant last night and looking to do wicked eyes tonight. I haven't been able to trigger Iron Bull's personal quest and haven't been able to start a relationship with him which I am assuming you can do before the winter palace, right?

With Iron Bull I had fully romanced him and gotten his romance tarot card after adamant. Don't free the mages, either conscript them or recruit the templars. Take Bull out to the deserts and kill venatori. Also go kill some dragons with him. Then you'll have lots of approval with him!

Also recruit the Wardens after Adamant instead of banishing them.

Iron Bull's romance takes a long time to initiate.  You can't do anything with him until you've completed his personal quest, and I think you need to do Adamant first too.

Have you finished the Hinterlands yet?

I decided I would romance him in my second playthrough. My aim was to be in the relationship before Halamshiral because I had heard there was a cutscene with the LI (which I had missed on my first playthrough with Dorian). Also, I knew I would be freeing the mages so I needed his approval as high as possible. What I did was get him as soon as I had the power to go to the Storm Coast. I took him with me to the Hinterlands because I had noticed, in my first playthrough, that some little quests increased his affection. And did they! There were three full approvals for riding the horse provided by Dennett, one for getting Speaker Anais to have her organization collect info for the inquisition, getting Ritts as a spy for Leiliana (this is what I remember), taking the flowers to the grave for the widowed elf in Redcliffe, and a bunch of slight approvals when doing other quests. I did the Fallow Mire and Storm Coast before I went to Skyhold as well, but I don't recall approvals there. My judgment of Chief Movran the Under (exile) cancelled out IB's disapproval over freeing the mages. His approval was maxed at that point.

Oh wait, I did get the Blades of Hessarian at the Storm Coast. That sounds like something IB would have appreciated.

Thanks for the information!

I did recruit the wardens and IB greatly approved. I had 6 judgments waiting for me at Skyhold when I got back. I judged everyone so that IB approved. I did the meet the chargers in the tavern scene and beating up IB with a stick cut scene and now I have no more options to talk to him.

Plan was to do Wicked Eyes and What Pride had Wrought back to back tonight. I wanted to start the relationship first though so I could get the dance scene.

Only zones I haven't touched are hissing waste and emprise. I cleared out all of the other zones and had IB with me the majority of the time.  I'll take IB out and kill some venatori. Thanks for the tip!

I was rushing through Adamant last night so I could ride the bull *snicker* and was a little disappointed to realize I am approval blocked QQ

That seems really weird. Were you in another romance of some kind or something? It didn't seem that difficult to lock up Bull's romance for me. Beating Bull with a stick for me was right before my final scene with his romance that gave me his love tarot card and sealed the deal.

If I were to actually put my old creative writing class lessons to good use I would want to write a fic in Iron Bull's perspective. The idea that I came up with revolved around the idea of reigniting the flame of Bull & quizzy's relationship. It would take place 5 years after the events of DA:I with the Inquisition still going strong. Iron Bull would still be struggling on the inside on how to function outside the Qun while the Inquisitor's title threatens to crush his very being. Before I would consider doing something like this I want a better understanding of the Qun & the big guy in general. It is weird I have bits & pieces of the story in my head but I have yet to find something to connect them all together (if that makes any since lol).

I don't think any story progress is actually needed to initiate his romance, I just think it's really hard to get his approval high enough that soon. If I recall correctly I got his romance started before Adamant in my latest file, after allying with the templars. Course, I was carefully making sure to get his approval on everything possible that I knew would, including the horse racing in the hinterlands and various other quests there. xD It's easiest to just let the big story choices do the work, but helpful if you really don't want to make the choices he approves of.

Also... does anyone else ever get this glitch with Bull?

Spoiler

It's kinda horrifying but I still can't help but chuckle. XD His arm literally goes inside his body and it looks like it's missing. The gore isn't really helping in this situation either, it looks like we just had a fight with really bad results.

Heck, I wish my PC could wear it and I'm not even a qunari. XD It's freaking awesome. In fact, the sole reason I turned off 'hide helmets' ... that and seeing Cass run around in an Orlesian Ball mask is priceless.

If you recruit the Templars, then kill a bunch of venatori, do a bunch of quests that help people (he also likes you doing the horse races in the Hinterlands for some reason) he should approve enough to get his quest, then his approval from that should let you romance him. On a later playthrough I was grinding his approval like that on purpose without doing any of the story quests after getting to Skyhold and I made sure not to kill any dragons either because I wanted to see what he would say in the drunk conversation if he was romanced. It worked and I got all his romance scenes aside from the watchwords one so far.

I have never had a problem getting Bull's romance started pretty quickly, but I've done four separate playthroughs with him and I've developed something of a system. I usually always recruit the mages, too.

What I usually do is pick him up as quick as possible. I'll find camps/close rifts to open up the Storm Coast and then do whatever I need to over there to get the last 4 points for Val Royeaux. I try to leave the Hinterlands quests alone until I have Bull in the party, especially the ones that recruit agents or help the refugees. Bull really approves of those. Usually just by doing that, I can get his approval pretty high. Then, once at Skyhold I do his quest where you dress up and talk to the soldiers, answer to get more approval, do the first couple of judgments so he approves, and then that usually pops his personal quest. He's in my bedroom before I've even made friends with most of the others ;)

Can't really say I'm pro mage or pro templar but in this particular game I enjoy going with the templars more than I do the mages, so kind of I suppose?

I've done both sides, so it's not really an issue of favoring mages over templars. I just like the quest for the mages better. The ending with Leliana and your party hits me right in the gut every time. Also, I prefer Leliana (unhardened) as Divine, so I ally rather than conscript.

The Ben Hassrath built his cover story as a Tal-Vashoth mercenary for him. He was just sent to play the role.

Once I get to Skyhold, with a bit of running around, I can get him in my bedroom pretty fast. ♥ My mage!Lavellan is pretty unsure of the whole circle/no-circle thing. He trusts himself outside of a circle, and doesn't want to risk penning himself into one when that's literally the last thing he wants for himself. But that doesn't mean he trusts other mages to not be in one. >.>

I'm usually pro-mage (not anti-templar), but for the first time in a Dragon Age game, Inquisition didn't make me feel bad about siding with the templars. So I'll probably end up doing the templar quest again sometime even though I prefer the mage one. Bull and my mage didn't agree on everything, but that's okay they still wubbed eachother. :P

I see..

He still isn't as close minded as the Arishok, though.

I doubt that your everyday qunari would think of striking a deal like "I'll only give enough info to keep them from complaining while lending military strength to this Andrastian group."

They'd find it questionable at best.
