The Ben Hassrath built his cover story as a Tal-Vashoth mercenary for him. He was just sent to play the role.

 

Once I get to Skyhold, with a bit of running around, I can get him in my bedroom pretty fast. ♥ My mage!Lavellan is pretty unsure of the whole circle/no-circle thing. He trusts himself outside of a circle, and doesn't want to risk penning himself into one when that's literally the last thing he wants for himself. But that doesn't mean he trusts other mages to not be in one. >.>

 

Yeah my mage loved the circle. It was quiet (and he's the shy nerdy type). He was a peace there free from his family's manipulations and politicking. But then of course the circles rebelled and he's been forced to kill people, fight for his life and see things he really wish he'd never seen. If he could go back he would.

I doubt that your everyday qunari would think of striking a deal like "I'll only give enough info to keep them from complaining while lending military strength to this Andrastian group."

They'd find it questionable at best.

Of course. It's why Gatt had to argue hard just to get them to not bring Bull back for re-education, again. They knew he was buying into his role too much. It wasn't the first time they'd had to re-educate him, right? But Bull turned himself over for it willingly the first time.

 

Both Bull and the Ben-Hassrath knew he was far too comfortable in his role. The Demands of the Qun quest was the breaking point for him, and both parties knew it was coming. He had to pick a side, he wasn't able to keep on pretending to be both forever.

 

Bull loves the Qun. He believes it is what keeps him from going mad, that it is the control that qunari need to protect everyone from themselves. But there's things he doesn't agree with, either. He doesn't want to inflict it on everybody. He looks at your group and he knows who would suffer under it and who wouldn't. He's thought about it a lot. Stuff about it bothers him.

 

Sten was a good little qun-boy. Iron Bull? Not so much. If you kill off the chargers and return him to the Qun, then he can fall back to it. But...even then. I'm sure he'd end up having to get re-educated again to get over the guilt of killing his men.

My first character was a pro-circle mage as well. It was a new experience for me haha. I enjoyed it though.
