I'm pretty sure they don't have anti magic talents. They use those rods. Why would you do that?

Also isn't that switch attached to the whole collar thing? He gonna walk around with a collar on? ;) Cause I'm pretty sure it won't just work on any mage. If it did Avarrad in DA2 would've used it on mage Hawke/mage companions but they don't.

I'm too used to seeing Bull on the floor in my games to believe he'd win vs my mage XD That's probably unfair but damnit Bull STAPH BEING SO DAMN SQUISH.

Also yeah Cole! Best backup plan <3

Yeah, I'm fairly certain that there is a process involved to bind a Saarebas to the rod, but that is what Lavellan would be willing to undertake. I don't know if it's the collar specifically, or if they have to ingest something, or what would be involved, which is why I'm wary of writing it right away. But you could always bypass it all by just saying that Lavellan had them research the rods and find a way to mimic it. If it had to be bound to something on his person, then he could just attach it to the dragon's tooth he wears all the time anyways. He has the force of the magical research department of the Inquisition behind him, he could find a way to make it work.

Better yet, he would be more worried about finding a way to bind it more thoroughly to Bull. Otherwise he's just making Bull a target, people will want to kill him to take the control rod, so that they could then control the Inquisitor. So he'd want to find a way to make it more permanently attached to Bull. I've put a lot of thought into it, but it's all just an idea kicking around in my head.

My Bull is my tank, so I don't really relate to him being squishy at all. He sees a mage, grappling hooks the guy over, and then the mage never really gets back up on his feet before he's dead. >.> But my Lavellan is a knight-enchanter, so Bull would definitely need some way to supress him to win in that fight. If the control rod did strip his magic though, then lolol. Lavellan is left as a scrawny little elf with no armor or weapons stuck in melee range of a highly annoyed Iron Bull.

I think once Bull got that ability, Lavellan would never agree to duel him again, ever. xD

D: yeah that's a no go for my charas but not bad.

That'd be an interesting fic though :P angsty too.

Well I have him as tank too but I decided to use him as 2hd tank on nightmare. He's squish. That and in all the cutscenes he ditches teh S&S for a 2HD and that class is really squishy. Plus my mages are rift mages. As soon as their at a distance it's over.

I've got lots of porn other things to write first, so I've got lots of time to think about it before I write it.

I've actually been playing with a 2h-Tank Iron Bull this playthrough, and it has been working pretty okay. I need him a bit higher level right now so I can get him all the skills he needs, but once he has enough skill points, he should be pretty effective.

Just have to craft him a lot of guard-on-hit gear, and then he's great. Once he starts aoeing entire groups, his guard generation is through the roof and he's basically immortal. xD With his reaver skills, getting him low hp before you give him his permanent guard just turns him into this terrifying monster that obliterates everything. It's a beautiful sight to behold. ;w;

Early game before you get all that though, it's easier to just give him a shield though, definitely.

Yeah I did the Haven fight with 2hd tank Bull, My archer and Cole as archer and Solas.

SO MUCH DYING OVER STUPIDITY. I hate the AI now. :(

But yeah once I got to skyhold he died a lot less often. Still NEVER FORGET HAVEN. NEVER FORGET.

Ugh, Haven just plain sucks. :| I do it two mages with barrier and I still rage at it pretty much the entire time!

Use Bees grenades. They really help. >.>

Yeah I should've another mage. :( But I wanted Cole and my dude was already an archer so...

I did! I only won because of a firestorm of antivan fires while I held the enemy back with a wall of fire and jar of bees. IT WAS TERRIBLE.

And yet, it still sounds so epic! xD When you're struggling for survival, everyone running around with slivers of HP, desperatly waiting for barrier's CD so that you can stop hiding behind the catapult like a scared child, you almost expect someone to be yelling "SO THIS IS YOUR BLESSED HERALD OF ANDRASTE? WHERE IS YOUR GOD NOW?"

When it comes to the mage/templar nonsense I have Anders to thank for making me lool at things differently (I still hate his guts and will treat him like dirt everytime I play DA2). When I played DA2 I was completely pro mage, in my mind how could you not be these people are being treated at like **** for something not in their control. My heart went out to them for the oppression they went through but after Anders little ******* stunt I literally stopped to reflect on everything when I was forced to choose a side. Even though I was pro mage in my whole playthrough I ended up siding with the templars because I felt that I needed to do some damage control and that mages do need something to keep them in check.

Come DA:I I'll admit that I approuch the game with a pro templar mindset so I was a bit biased but when I heard of the alliance with Tevinter, time magic BS, Fiona, amplifying my anchor with magic, Fiona, my poor Leliana in the future & Fiona I was like HELL NO WITH HUSHED WHISPERS! I loved how DA:I let you in on the plight of templars more thanks to Cullen. These people are bound to a lyrium leash with the chantry holding & all because these people wanted ti protect. Sure not all the templars had good intentions & we all can name quite a few but it reminded me of a psychology study with two groups with one being prisoners while being jail guards. Now despite the fact that alot of the jail guards in the experiment did take advantage of their position regardless of the situation I strongly feel that not everyone is like that. Just as I felt that not every templar is a power hunger tyrant. We got to see that in the Champions of the Just that there are good templars out there that just want to protect. I still stand by the Templars in all my playthroughs but everyone has their own reasons for choosing what they choose. I can see why people are pro mage as well. I love how this thread isn't really judgemental. Maker forbid I voice opinion on another thread I would invoke some long drawn out BS. Ride the Bull hard y'all!

Yeah, see it all comes down to the fact that you get to talk to Dorian and stuff before you actually commit to In Hushed Whispers. After talking to Dorian and finding that kind of thing out, it's like >wow, time magic, tevinter magisters, this is all bad **** I need to deal with.

You don't get told >Sooo the Templar dude might actually be possessed by a demon and we really need to look into this. All you get in game is "Well, we wanted to talk to that guy, but wow he's a jerkbag, huh? Maybe if we get important enough he might acknowledge our existence enough to talk to us." So when I role play like that, I just can't help myself and end up going mage because I want to help Dorian who asked for help and ripping open the fabric of time seems like a pretty good reason to do so haha.

But see, that's a quest preference. As far as mages/templars go, I'm much the same as you actually. Anders and the ending of DA:2 kind of goes to show, that when pushed mages will resort to evil. Sure, templars push them. But if they were free, what else would push them? A lord decides that he wants to abuse their power in some way and starts to pressure them into doing things they aren't happy about. What happens then? They turn to blood magic to lash out at the lord, who is there to protect the people?

Or better yet, a jerkbag mage decides that he's going to use his power to opress others for a change. Who is going to be there to stop them?

So yeah, Templars definitely have a purpose, but it's pretty clear that the system as it is when DA2 ends and DA:I starts is totally messed up and needs to be fixed, but that is the entire point of Inquisition. In Iron Bull's perfectly amazingly wise words, "I think most people everywhere have a system that works for 'em. When that breaks, you fix it. Like we're doing now."

Oh I definitely agree the system needs to be fixed. We're just going about it different ways XD

The templars need to be held accountable for the abuses done to the mages.

And on the other hand, mages need to stop thinking that if you keep throwing enough blood magic at the problem, eventually it'll go away.

And on both sides, they need to stop looking at it as a us vs them mentality, and instead look at it as a "Maybe if we work together on this we could do great things together." >.>

Oh that yeah. That tends to backfire spectacularly.

While I like the us vs them (it's not neat but I like the tensions it causes) it would be better if they chilled on the CAN'T BUDGE ON ONE THING OR PANDEMONIUM WILL OCCUR mindset.

Yeah! If everyone got along, there would be no conflict for the game for us players to enjoy. xD But as far as the characters and everything go, if they're actually trying to fricking fix the system and wanted to actually solve the world's problems? Then they need to start working together.

Sadly :o

But yeah some moderates that actually start working to improve the system even if they get blindsided by the crazies would be a nice change.

My favorite kind of mages

I played a radical pro mage once. Had to delete him. He ended up rivaling Fenris too. I felt so dirty.

My only...super reckless mage was my Warden. But even he was not a "FOR THE MAGES FREEDOM" type thing, and more of a "...well if I'm going to save the world...maybe just a little blood magic wont hurt!" He was a bit of an ass, but nobody was going to get in the way of that boy and stopping the blight. >.> The upside is, he'd look at what the Grey Wardens were doing in DA:I, and be able to say "Well that is not how you deal with demons, stupids."

All other playthroughs, I play very practical mages who just want everyone to stop fighting and go home and leave them the hell alone. >.>

I can't say any of them are pro-circle though. Because when I think of that, I think of Vivienne. And...no. Just no. Saying "The circle is the solution to all of our issues because I personally am above all the suffering because I'm rich and politically connected, and all those other mages are just silly for suggesting it's anything otherwise!" ...no. Evil Vivienne. They should have represented pro-circle mages a little less...that way. Wynne was much better. ;_;

My Lavellan says screw the circles, and just wants to be another totally-not-a-mage in the Bull's Chargers. He will pretend he's totally just a warrior, while Dalish pretends that she's totally just an archer. ♥

All of high school, I was so pro-mage, it would have made Adrian weep with envy. However, I actually changed my stance once I took a Security Politics class in college. Then I really began to see the merits of both sides, each having very valid points. The Templars need better oversight, the mages need to chill the *expletive* out.

I was always in the middle XD I only sided with the mages in DAO and DA2 because the templars were super crazy. But Da2 I started siding with the templars after empathizing with their side more.

Agreed. They do both have valid points and fears it's a shame most of the moderates got blown up :(

and yeah I have some like that.

Eh Vivienne is a variant of pro-circles just like crazies are a variant of mage freedom. Some have good points some have bad points. That said some circles are undoubtedly horrible. Even Vivienne admits this.

I hope that works for him ;)

Oh it will! ...eventually, it will!

But I'm totally writing a fic where Lavellan plops down in front of Bull one night and is all "Good sir! I would like to join your band of mercenaries, as I have heard they are of good repute and are totally badass!"

And Bull will be like "....Well, what are your qualifications? We don't hire just anyone, do you have anyone to vouch for you?" ♥

It'll be fun to write. >:3

XD now who'd be quizzy voucher? Cullen? Leliana? Josie? :P

I was thinking of writing a quizzy fic with Cole slowly helping them with the hurt throughout the game. Probably be a human mage if I do it. Most likely with either a Blackwall romance that they end at judgement or none.

I think Lavellan would be more than willing to sleep with the boss to get the job! >:3 And I think Bull would be totally okay with it.

Cole-centric fanfiction would be awesome.  I love his character to bits, so having him feature would be awesome! ♥
