Oh, wow.

 

I get that Bull is not for everyone, and as much as I love the character, there were a few occasions when I would have liked the option to smack him. He has flaws, as any good character does. But I do not understand this need to twist what the game gives us to make him into some kind of monster.

 

The scene with Krem is a defining moment. It's the devs going out of there way to say that he supports this, and offer more insight into his personality. Otherwise, why would it be there? But no, let's twist it around and try to say he's actually transphobic despite how quick he is to shut you down if you question Krem really being a man.

Hey guys, I know you're really happy that you have representation in a mainstream video game, and that this really amazing character totally supports you and empowers you and stuff, but NO YOU CANT HAVE IT AND YOU SHOULD FEEL BAD FOR THINKING THAT HE LOVES YOU BECAUSE HE ACTUALLY HATES YOU. Why? Because reasons, that's why!

 

Nooooo. No. No. That's someone who wants to spew vitrol for the sake of spewing vitrol. Whose using the banner of being "pro-minority" as a reason to hate and be contemptful. Not someone who actually cares about the people they're supposed to be defending.

I think Iron Bull accepts Krem in the most meaningful way possible in Thedas. By accepting him for the gender he is, standing up for him and sharing things with him to encourage him. Krem doesn't throw up his hands and be offended when Iron Bull explains aqun-athlok and go on to rant about him how that's problematic because that kind of politicing or social justice can't exist in a world that locks mages into towers, has a fully functioning slave-based society and has saarebas running around under the control of qunari. Really? Bioware is supposed to fit in non binary and proper use of pronouns and tiptoe around that issue, in the world they've created? "Hey there mr Aravaad, I know you're busy opressing your Saarebas while you kill off tevinter slaves that are forced to fight for a cause they don't believe in by blood magic used to warp their will, and will take some captive to force a magical substance down their throat that effectively lobotamizes them, but could we stop and talk about how your use of the "he/she" pronoun is opressing your comrades need to identify as a non binary gender?"

 

It wouldn't fit. It'd stick out like a sore thumb in the world and what Bioware is doing is fitting in trans people as neatly as they can in a way that fits the story. They used Iron Bull as their champion to give the best pro-trans message that they can, which is if you're a trans man you're just as much of a man as a cis man. Period. I think that's a beautiful message fit neatly into the game's universe by beautiful characters and anything else would be unfitting and belittling to both the story and the minority that Bioware is so beautifully trying to include.

 

Picking holes in that is just...\facepalm. People's rush to spew vitrol and scream 'problematic' or 'offensive' over things ends up demeaning the minority they are supposed to be defending.

 

Edit: I'd also like to point out that in my little example, the Aravaad in question would probably blink blankly at whoever it was for a moment and be like "wtf does gender have to do with anything?" Because Qunari put more emphassis on role than they do gender because gender is an individuality thing, something that has no place in the qun. Just another example of how much Iron Bull has embraced his Chargers as people and not just as tools. He's so far gone from qunari thinking in some ways it's sad to think about him having to get reintigrated into it at some point. :| *grabby hands* The qun will never take my Iron Bull baaaack~.

Oh, it's not supposed to. I already knew that the Qun was evil. It doesn't bother me, it was more in response to anyone hypothetical who might say that the Qun isn't that bad.

I wonder if this alt outfit was like, a romance armor change like happened in DA2? I would have reallllly liked to see something like that come into the game. Or at least add the Dragons Tooth around his neck as a change to his model or something.

 

Though, the valentines type coloring of his new armor would be adorable. x3

The only thing that drives me nuts about that outfit is how it makes his brace disappear, lol.

Maybe it's just the armor they use for the majority of his armor skins, where the white gets filled in by whatever texture you choose for crafting? It's just strange that it would have been pulled as an alternative to his main costume, because the other models that were pulled were all pretty much the companions regular outfits for around Skyhold.

 

I guess, maybe other companions armor kind of shows up under their regular gear, whereas Iron Bull's seems like a reskin of his main armor? I guess that would make a bit more sense than an impromptu style change.

 

Though him deciding to start dressing up nice in white just because he's romancing the Inquisitor...is amusing as hell. xD The more reasonable explanation isn't near as hilarious a visual image.

You now, I think the tinting/texture thing is likely. I kept thinking the white just looked untextured, and the white parts are all the ones that get colored when crafting, so that makes sense. Although I agree, your preferred explanation is way more entertaining

@Xilizhra: I don't think anyone is attacking/angry at you more than the storm of people who make every character who has one or a couple of flaws automatically a "Horrible person that no one should like and you should die for liking that person!" This makes up a good share of Tumblr that even if one thing you say can be taken either 1) the wrong way or 2) not politically correct makes you a bad person.

 

People are people. People make mistakes or say things that aren't always right. That doesn't mean they can't learn from their mistakes (I in the past am one of those people who've said things that I regret and I learned from them) or that they are completely bad people. The world isn't so Black and White as much as we would like to believe.

 

I'm very sure that's who Sui is referring too.

 

But to added to the new convo we have going: How the hell do you wear the Dragon Tooth thing anyways? It's the size of your head and sure, a Qunari would likely wear it alright but what about a human? A Elf? Don't get me started on Dwarfs having a problem wearing it. The poor thing would likely be dragging on the floor. XD

Responding to anything with a "you appear to be mad, I wonder why." Does not do much to sell your post as anything other than bait that I fell for hook line and sinker because I'm prone to protecting the characters that I love that offer a lot of support and acknowledgment to the lifestyle that I love that are constantly attacked for /reasons./

Anyways. I think if it was going to be an actual necklace they'd figure out how to shrink the tooth so that it could actually be worn. That's how I play with it, anyways, because my poor little elf would break his neck with the full version. xD

Haven't seen anything about the inquisitor at all other than a generic recount of the conclave and how they became the Herald of Andraste. Keep in mind though, the book is huge, and I've only had time to skim through it

I can't recall if there's anything for Adaar, but there's quite a bit for qunari in general. And the Chargers have their own profile.

Yeah I've given up entirely on drawing, I'll just stick to writing and hope I can words enough to get my mental images across to the reader. Always very jealous of all the beautiful artists that can turn out such amazing stuff. ♥

 

I need to stop being distracted and get back to writing my little OT3. It's wordcount keeps climbing, and while it's already in desperate need of rewrites it's been going okay so far. >_> Even though a surprise sex scene snuck up on me out of the blue, because apparently I am prone to such things.

Well actually, I am getting distracted too...My 2nd fic is stuck due to lack of time.. and when I have some time, I spend it checking your comments guys,or any smutty images (like vertigomez shared ), etc etc. Anyway I think its ok since this way my flow of ideas/smut for the fic has increased. Great great community here .

 

Also I need to keep reading your fics guys to keep myself updated , need much more time Ughhhh xD.

OAN, I'll be posting a fic collection on AO3. I have ideas that aren't enough for full fledged fics but I want to share them anyway because I'm awful like that so I am. It won't feature only IB/Cadash stuff so just a heads up (I have a feeling my Dorian/Adaar and Cass/Trev ideas will start gaining some of my interest as I get into their PTs further).

Why do I work for a living, all I want to do is sit at home and read and write and do literally nothing else. Who needs a social life and financial income? Pffft!

 

Can't wait to see what you got, Eggplant. :3 I am continously coming up with ideas that I roll around and file away for later, so I know what it's like to have a bunch clawing for attention haha. Just need more time in a day, huh?
