Here's to hoping a female qunari can romance him

...Bah. That fem-qunari's face looks really familiar and now it's gonna bug me trying to think of who the artist used as a reference, even though it's probably coincidence.
I'm kinda hoping they do romances mildly exclusive to species. Like if you're a dwarf a human LI ceases to be an option, but Varric opens up, and the same goes if you're a Qunari with Iron Bull. Unfortunately that would be way to hard to implement, and unfair if all the characters were anything but bisexual.
I'm against race-gating the romances. I think that sends a bad message in regards to interracial relationships in the real world.
As a person who's all about inter-race romances, I agree with Fiend. I think there could - and should - be some reactivity when it comes to race but out-and-out restricting romances because of it is a bit extreme, especially with the knowledge that there will be set sexualities this time around.

I don't feel that way. "Race" in fantasy and "Race" in real life are the same word used to mean two different things. In real life the word "race" refers to the region of the world the subject's ancestors came from, in fantasy "race" becomes more or less synonymous with "species". Most "races" in fantasy do not share a genetic ancestor like people of different races do in real life, and the ability for two fantastical "races" to interbreed varies from work to work. We don't even know if dwarves and qunari can interbreed with humans and elves (an off-hand comment made by Zevran doesn't count) and the genetics of human and elves interbreeding is kinda screwy. In this context it makes plenty sense for characters of a certain race to be exclusively attracted to members of their own race, a higher probability of reproduction does tend to tip the scales a bit.
Also Varric's personally stated he doesn't really go for humans, and even if Iron Bull has nothing against other races, and/or finds your Inquisitor plenty attractive, he might simply prefer a mate he doesn't have to worry about accidentally crushing to death.
I think that's an artificial distinction. We already use fantasy races as analogues for real world cultures. Compounding that with saying that relationships between these races is, for whatever reason, improper, still enforces the perception that relationships outside of your race or culture aren't appropriate.
It's also a point where breeding doesn't enter into it. Whether or not qunari and humans or qunari and dwarves or qunari and elves can interbreed is in no way shape or form relevant to whether or not they can feel love for one another.
As it stands, I don't think either Iron Bull or Varric are going to be LI's, and I would rather they weren't LI's at all than having them only be available to members of the same race.
i dont see a romance with bull or varric happening, they wrote varric's love life into a corner when he talks about his promise with some chick to not talk about how bianca got her name... as for the bull, well i just dont see him being a love interest.... hes too jacked and muscular to care about things as puny as love (*read that in arnold schwarzenegger voice*)
Big guys need love, too.

I'm personally tired of human blond romances. IB would be a breath of fresh hair.
im not saying im against it, i just have a hard time picturing them going that route
Part of me does hope they go that route, just for a little diversity.
I think, assuming 2/2/2, that whatever they do they're going to have to break the mold somewhat. Cullen and DHMG are the only two male companions that really fit Bioware's male LI mold. Solas is the closest after that, but they might go with the dark horses like IB or Beardy just to be different.

I support Solas, Beardy or IB just to break the mold, plus all three look great.

You broke my brain with this. Are you actually saying that romance is an alien concept to big, muscular men? Because that is simply fallacious.
I honestly think Iron Bull might have a small chance of being an LI instead of Beard Warden mostly on account of his age and that he might be going for his calling soon. Then again BioWare loves drama so it really is up in the air.
I'm hoping we get more than just 3 for each gender so there's more leeway to experiment with LI types and because I'm greedy ![]()
Of course don't you know muscular people don't believe in nor need the concept of love.
They may not need love but that doesn't mean they don't want it
I was being sarcastic if you couldn't tell
oh I know ![]()
Prediction: Iron Bull is going to headbutt someone as a Wrex reference.
I wonder if he would fly into a rage if the inquisitor were to wear a red sash?
