I have to say, weirdly I'm not really excited about Iron Bull being a companion. I think perhaps the fact that we can play as a Qunari makes all other Qunari news seem bland in comparison.

Eh i think you're alone on that. If anything, for me personally, being a qunari with a fellow qunari in my party sounds great. Its made better when i can make a female to hopefully romance him

I'm personally very excited to have a (little-q) qunari in the party! Do I especially love Mr. Bull's description? No, not particularly. The qunari I truly fell in love with was Maraas; even for that little tidbit of time we get to know him, something about him really intrigued me. He seemed lost, but determined to find his way in this big new world he'd allowed himself to step into.

Now with Iron Bull, it's as if he's several years ahead of Maraas; he's REALLY distanced himself from the (big-Q) Qunari and has made a life for himself. That's definitely very interesting, and I cannot wait to see him. But he's certainly less of a romantic soul than dear Maraas.

Who knows?  He could like romantic smut just as the Isabela does.

And Cassandra, apparently.

Now we just need to get Ron Perlman to voice him and all will be good.

<hits the like button in vain>

That would be totally awesome.  Of course, BRAIN BLESSED as a Qunari would be fun too.  :D

What?

I know what they are referencing.  I forget if it's in the trailer or in the "War Room" fan art, but there is a blink-and-you-miss-it copy of Hard in Hightown II, that belongs to Cassandra.  So yep, she likes her smut.

Too bad it's a cheap knockoff of Varric's work.  I thought I had all of those copies destroyed.  <sigh>

But isn't the Hard in Hightown franchise a rip off of cop books?

It was a cop story with a lot of romance in it.  Some of the parts that Varric and Isabela read of the original out loud and it got a little steamy.

Let me go try to dig up a codex for ya.

The closest I found was Varric and Isabela reading along some 'Friend-Fiction' about Aveline and Donnic.

I'm really looking forward to the "slap in the face to the usually humorless Qunari" thing. Subversive characters are the best characters.

Found it!  This is where the confusion is coming from.  It wasn't the actual book, it was a "friend fic" that Isabela had done.  I made the same wrong assumption as some of the others did. The dialogue is too funny to leave out.

Isabela: Psst. I've got some of it written down now.
Varric: Give it here.
Varric: "Her breasts strained against the leather jerkin like two wild stallions corralled against their will." (Chuckles)
Varric: "She pounced—the smooth moves of a jungle cat—and locked her thighs around Donnic's waist. He—"

(If Aveline is in the party)

Aveline: What?
Isabela: Nothing.
Aveline: What is that?
Isabela: Shh! (Giggles)
Varric: Isabela just thought she'd celebrate your love affair with a... written dedication.
Isabela: It's "friend-fiction!" I do it out of love.
Aveline: I will never, ever be clean again.
(If not)

Isabela: Maybe you should read the rest of it in private.
Varric: I think that's best.

Yeah, the Hard in Hightown was just a rip off cop books, like the whole "near retirement" and "a dirty cop on the edge" things.

That's more Anders' shtick.

Though a butterfly admiring, kitten pettin' merciless mercenary maurading Qunari, could be interesting.

I always thought of it as Varric's version of Lethal Weapon mixed with old-school noir.  I could easily see it falling into other noir tropes:

It had been another sad and lonesome day in the lovely city of Kirkwall.  More folks scurrying about their lives, trying make sense of it all.  Me?  I've been a guard a long time.  Too long, some might say.  Just a belly full of aches and a receding hairline is all I have to show for my lifetime of hard work for this city.  I know it's time for me to retire, but I can't.  The whole town is going mad.  A few of us have to stay sane so everyone can sleep at night.  Someone has to do the dirty work.

All the trouble started when she walked in.  A dame with long legs and flashing eyes with that come-thither stare comes strolling into my office.  Says she needs my services and I'm the only one that can help her.  I let out a sigh.  Only a lovely noble of Kirkwall could bring in so much trouble and yet be so easy on the eyes.

...And now I'm fan ficing.  Off-topic.

I need more coffee badly.

If there is one thing the Internet has taught me, it is that EVERYTHING can be made to be an innuendo.
