I'm willing to bet party banter will include a discussion about how if he covered up his chest he wouldn't have so many scars.

I don't get his character design. He's a melee fighter without much armor. But then I think he wears too much to be sexually objectified or whatever. Not quite like Miranda. So it's probably just to emphasize his strength, to make him look barbaric. Why is he so big? I think it makes him rather alien or maybe exotic. Like, yes, this a male character, but first this is an alien character, so never mind the gender imbalance, first and foremost he's a Qunari, an exotic creature to marvel at.

Starting in DA2, it's pretty much standard for Qunari men to be without torso armor, though. The Arishok and all the base Qunari/Tal-Vashoth in DA2 were topless. I think it's just the aesthetic choice they decided as the cultural standard for Qunari.

They're nice to look at, but I don't know about going into battle without protection when your enemy has got chain mail and shields or whatever.

 

I think it's the purpose of the Qunari to be foreign, to follow these odd rules and to behave and talk in a strange way. I wonder if Iron Bull will be like that or not or somewhere in between.

In DA2, I think the Qunari were bare-chested because they had to leave their armor on their sinking ship. Plate armor + water = drowning. In Act II, they probably couldn't find someone who could craft armor to their size/liking, so they continued to walk around half-nude.

 

That said, I have no qualms whatsoever with IB walking around with those abs showing.

Seheron has a warmer climate so it's understandable that they would wear less clothing/armor. 

But if they change the glittering steel armor look to the new shirtless glistening tribal look, I don't mind

Dont forget its probably near impossible to get shirts on with his horns lol. But if im remembering this well, he has a entire leather vest type top in the recent trailer, i wouldnt doubt the bear chest being his signature look though until heavy armor is involved

I sure hope it was just copying DA2 design and in DAI they will give qunari real armour. They're the most advanced civilisation in Thedas, not some barbarians

I like the hypothesis someone had where the Qunari had skin like a rhino, so basically their skin is an armor.
