He was a tevinter slave (from birth or captured) who fought on an arena. Eventually he became free and started his new life. Probably realised he liked fighting and freedom too much to return to qunari

If he was a Tevinter slave, I wonder what he'll think of Dorian/DHMG? He's supposed to be an ex-magister.

True, but if they had different enough outlooks... I mean, Wynne and Anders were both walking, talking abominations, but they had very different stories and personalities.

I doubt we'll get two Tevinter slaves followers in two games.
Why not?
We're getting four apostates in a row. Two dalish firsts in a row. Princes. Dwarven outcasts etc

That's very true. Fenris was bitter, angry, and hated his master and anyone/anything associated with him due to the torment and mistreatment he'd been put through as Danarius' personal slave and bodyguard. If we go with the theory of Bull being a gladiator-type fighter, who consistently WON, he may have led a relatively better life. I draw from historical gladiators here, but the goal wasn't for the best warriors to be killed, it was for them to keep winning for the crowd's entertainment. As long as they kept winning, they were basically celebrities, and they were given freedoms and rewards that normal slaves would not have a chance at gaining. It's entirely possible, given that sort of past, for Iron Bull's experience to have had a very different effect on him than Fenris' did.

The Princes are from two different countries. The dwarven outcasts were from different cultures (a former warrior and a casteless). Fair point on dalish. The apostates where from different cultures. Why not?

While it's true that he can be different from Fenris in personality and perspective, if we get Dorian as a magister/former magister, we'd get two followers based on a Tevinter perspective, and I don't see to happening.

Fair point. I'd say my bit about the merits of direct character foils or some such thing, but it's looking like a pretty weak argument from my end~.The Princes are from two different countries. Not to mention that it explain so much: his scars, his name (like a title given to succesfull fighters), his personality and approach to business
I wonder if it is true, then why would he leave in the first place? And what kind of interaction he would have with Dorian?

He could have been fully aware of his gilded cage, made use of it for a time first out of necessity, then out of actual enjoyment, and, when he became weary of living that way, escaped, only to find that he had developed too much of a taste for that sort of violent hedonism to ever return to the Qun. (Alternatively, his masters/sponsors were intending to forcefully "retire" him, and Iron Bull was having none of it.)
I'm not entirely sure how that would effect his relationship with Dorian, either. Suspicion? Ambivalence? Open hostility? It could go any of those routes.

I was bored, I created doll versions of all the companions. Here's Iron Bull as a human. And, he's really not happy about me making him into a puny human.

Guys, I dreamt of Iron Bull last night, and I curse whatever woke me up. :C
IB had upset me somehow, and he tried making amends by giving me some flowers (I recognized them from my kitchen table). And then he cleaved some warg looking creature in half before it was able to rip into my leg. ![]()
(I really like the idea of him being a gladiator, that'd be so cool!)

Isn't Iron Bull supposed to be a mercenary by trade? I'd assume he got his scars due to his line of work. I doubt he's a former slave from Tevinter, primarily because he's, well... a Qunari.

And haven't tevinter and the qunari been fighting for quite some time? Taking some as slaves after a successful battle sounds like something Tevinter would do.

Good point. However, I have the niggling suspicion that the Magisters would draw quite a bit of glee out of subjugating a member of the Qunari, a race they've been warring against for a while, in such a way. "An adversary is more hurt by desertion than by slaughter" and all that jazz.Isn't Iron Bull supposed to be a mercenary by trade? I'd assume he got his scars due to his line of work. Just a speculative thought, though~.

Well, it just struck me that Tevinters would see a Qunari and immediately think enemy, and just try to kill them rather than take one as a slave. Given that they have been fighting for a long time now, they would know that unless they used blood magic to control him, a Qunari would never willingly submit. (I realise Iron Bull is Tal Vashoth but that's meta-knowledge.)
Frankly, I don't think they would see it as being worth the effort.

Iron Bull and Scribbles would make a cute couple. If any of the companions do hook-up with other companions or NPC's I'd love to see them together.

If Iron Bull hooks up w/Scribbles and he isn't a LI option for the Inquisitor at all, I'm going to be really sad ![]()
Kind of like the Joker scenario. Femshep can hit on Joker, but he only has eyes for EDI.
I'm cool with the companions hooking up w/ other NPC if you aren't pursuing a romance with them like Tali/Garrus and Fenris/Isabela.
