I was going a full Renegade playthrough, and when I got to Morinth my Shepard was not able to resist her.

I was able to 'Restart Mission' and finished up all the other straggling quests and got my Renegade to about 80%(?), it was touching the fifth bar.  It still didn't work.  I've already done the mission though, so there's no going back but I might replay the game with a NG+ and I want to know how to do this.

Also, will my scars carry on over to ME3?  Are my eyes suppose to be red as a Renegade or is that a bug?  It is considered 'Renegade' to leave Grunt and Legion 'unconscisous' or whatever, and do I get more Renegade points for it?

EDIT:  also, what exactly carries over to NG+?  Does my Renegade status go over?

I am not exactly sure how much Renegade/Paragon you need to resist Morinth.

I know that the amount of Paragon/Renegade needed for checks is based on a percentage; basically, you need a certain percentage of total Renegade/Paragon that is available to you at that point in the game. The system is explained here. Here is another good post that can explain it as well.

Your scars will carry over to ME3 unless you use the Med Bay Research upgrade to remove them. I recommend you remove them as you can get a chance later in ME3 to remove the scars or get a health/medi-gel upgrade.

Yes, your eyes are supposed to be red as a renegade.

No, it is not considered renegade to leave Grunt in the tank. You get no Paragon/Renegade points for it.

No, it is not considered renegade to leave Legion "unconscious". You get renegade points for selling the robot to Cerberus, or for waking him and making the renegade choice on his loyalty mission.

Only your weapons, armor, and talent points carry over to NG+. You have to research everything again, and all renegade/paragon points are reset to 0.

I have never gotten the renegade option with her, only the paragon. I believe the Paragon requirement is lower than the renegade. That, or I can never bring myself to be that hardcore renegade even though I am able to pass most other renegade checks. The only renegade checks I have never been able to pass are the Morinth one and the Tali/Legion dispute. Fortunately, the Tali/Legion dispute does not require much in the way of paragon points to pass.

On my first playthrough I wanted to be absolutely sure I got her (I saw the cutscene with Morinth and Samara when watching my Paragon brother play it and I was like "You can recruit her?!?", but he didn't lol), so I did Samara's loyalty mission very LAST before suicide mission so I could have as many Renegade points as possible... which is the OPPOSITE of what you're supposed to do and I couldn't get her! So do not do that!

Instead, I had to restart and found out your best bet is to be full either Renegade or Paragon and do Samara's loyalty mission as soon as it opens up! It rates it by % of Paragon/Renegade per mission or something, so the sooner you do it the higher chance of getting her you have because there are more Renegade/Paragon options in the beginning of the game, I think that's the reason but either way it's the best strategy. Which is fine for me, because I got to take her on as many of my missions as possible! :)

TL;DR: Pick either full Renegade or Paragon options up to Samara's loyalty mission, and do that mission as soon as you get it!

Worked for me. ;)

This is a severe problem for passing some of those persuasion checks. With an import you get a starting boost from whatever ME1 score you had. But in a non-import game or a NG+ you don't get the starting boost to your para/ren point total. Ideally, you would want to import a character with max ren/para points, which would give you a 190 point boost to both.
