[Heldarion]

A couple of months ago I thought I was done with solo speedrunning but I still find myself doing solo (speed)runs either with classes that I didn't use to play much or on maps/difficulties that I don't tend to play.
 
Instead of making a new thread every time I record something that I deem worthy of sharing with ya'll, this thread will from now on serve as the database for all of that.

Back when I was trying to break sub20 with GI I was failing miserably, so I tried the Reapers. I completed the solo easily in the first try, but the time was something like 25 minutes. After that I hadn't bothered with any other faction for solo speedruns (except for the DA solo against the Rippaz).

Since Glacier is such a small map, units like Ravagers and Scions can effectively lock you out of some parts of the map (Cerb Turrets sometimes do that too, but they're always on the same spots, unlike Ravagers who also like to trollspawn a lot), reducing your options. Reapers and the Collectors also share two things that Cerberus doesn't have - they flank extremely well and throw at you trash units (Husks and Abominations) that keep respawning close by, bothering you at worst possible times. At least Abominations have a hefty cost of 40 or 45 budget points.

With the Reapers, there are also Banshees that start jumping at you, forcing you to either engage them or flee, which again doesn't give you a free rein on your game plan. Plus you have to watch out for Warp balls which also tend to hit you at worst possible times.

The Geth are insanely cheap so I'm not even going to bother soloing against them.

Cerberus has Dragoons which drain an enormous amounts of budget given how easily they can be dealt with, Atlases which do **** all and 2 units that can be OHK'd and cost 40 budget points - Nemesis and Engineer - which is 40% of what either Atlas or Banshee costs.

@Heldarion : interesting observations, very useful for those who maybe think about doing some speedruns. Although I'm not a speedrunner, I felt also that Cerberus was the best faction for a speedrun, notably because, as you described, the budget can be easily drained by killing Phantoms and Dragoons.
