Me too, but so far I have no reason to be pessimistic.  I'm not going to look for reason to.  Life's too short.  I know that little things like textures and lighting can drastically change what we see now.

Instead of waiting for more info to be released and taking in what we do know (story, design, characters, mechanics) people look at the landscape and mini map, coming to the wise conclusion that, that somehow equals skyrim. Personally i dont see it, there is no desert in skyrim, there was no swamp like what we saw in the recent trailer, there was no open field full of flowers, and so what if the forest looked similar, ITS A FOREST, there's only so much that can be done to change it before it isnt a forest. As for the compass/mini map, that isnt unique to Skyrim

Considering it is just an image on a screen, no. But you try standing there in real life as something with teeth as big as your forearm comes at you.

I do too. Now it's common to see people say they've never played one. I definitely feel like Squaresoft was an unstoppable force of amazement from 1994 until 2001.

My dad picked up the very first one when it hit the stores in 1990.  I was almost 11 when that game came out.  I've played them all except for (Japanese) 3, 8, 13 and 13-2.  Once upon a time, back when you were very little, there wasn't another RPG that held a candle to FF.  Most of the Dragon Quest games never hit the US shores, so that wasn't an option.  Even Icewind Dale was years away.  For Final Fantasy, there wasn't a better series to be compared to.
