In Greek Mythology she's responsible for the creation of the spider.

Hell, I've been gaming since 1986 or so, and I've never played a Final Fantasy game.
I sometimes watched as my brother played FFVII, if that counts at all. I've just always had trouble getting into any JRPG that doesn't involve training adorable monsters for cockfighting purposes. (With the noble exception of The World Ends With You, which I adore.)

Nope, you are apparently because a game that isn't released fails to be Final Fantasy or Skyrim. Perhaps you should go back to playing those games?
Now, you go on and have a nice night.

Yeah, it's just not for everyone. Wasn't even for everyone back in its heyday. Me, I played VII and then I was chained to whichever others my friends had that I could visit and play when I had the opportunity.

I blame the goddess Athene.
Athena is my favorite of the Greek goddesses, though for some reason I like her Roman version Minerva much more.
She gave us wisdom, courage, inspiration, civilization, law and justice, just warfare, mathematics, strength, strategy, the arts, crafts, and skill.
Plus she was pretty much the only deity to stay a virgin instead of hooking up with or raping various people.

BTW, in Greek myth, it was Arachne who was turned into a spider by Athena. She had been a weaver of silk, then turned into a weaver of webs.

BTW2, I think what this thread needs is a few pages of argument over whether JRPGs are better than WRPGs. (This is a debate I never heard of until recently. Granted, that may be because I've never played any JRPG ever, let alone FF. I have watched plenty of anime, though.)
Only Qistina seemed up to the challenge, but she's gone.

WRPGs want you to roleplay, to genuinely roleplay, or at least most of them do. WRPG diehards can't stomach the thought of their character -- and there is far more ownership involved here -- "auto-dialoging" against their controller's wishes and whims, because then it's no longer a roleplaying game but some terrible thing.
Which has its merits within a subgenre recognized routinely for inviting players to craft their own versions of semi-written tales, to fill in blanks and paint the rest of a picture, as opposed to the Japanese standard of offering a picture which ideally players will enjoy looking at.
To many in this heyday of Western approches such concepts are downright sacrilegious, but I'll never forget my first times with the worlds Cloud Strife, Ramza Beoulve, Fei Fong Wong, Yuna, all inhabited. There is something to be said -- or perhaps, was -- for worlds painted lovingly by the hard-working brushstrokes of artists, writers not limited by the myriad potential divergences players desire, but instead freed to tell one linear tale, start to definitive finish.
I relish those games sure as I relish Mass Effect and Dragon Age. No spitfire reactionary loathing from one camp against the other, whichever side be "victorious" in mainstream awareness on a given day, will change that.
There. I'm no Qistina, but I tried to make up for it.
