1) Well the guard captain did say they thought it was bandits indicating that they didn't think it was much of a threat (though based on what we have seen I would be surprised if they could even handle bandits) which caused them to leave the keep, get their arses kicked then try to retreat back to the keep to find that they accidentally left the gate open and now the keep is occupied by the enemy, good work guys! One would hope that if they had been repelling constant attacks they would have turtled in the keep until momma Inquisitor came to save their asses.

2) Probably the same way the main character finds out anything in an RPG

1. at some point your really going go have to lead me that scrying device.. or at least stick to what has actually been shown

2. someone starts crying about their problem because, despite the tattoos, weapons, and armed escort the hero just looks like the kinda guy you can trust?  :P

So what you are saying is that either the Army or the Inquisitor needs to be useless? Both can't be useful in their own ways?

I don`t think you will use your army much ( maybe one great battle at the end of the game ) so i guess they will be of no use unless your keep is attacked . Did you ever play grand theft auto san andreas ? It was a huge pain in the butt when you were off doing something and you have to come back to defend your turf .

Just because you never saw it doesn't mean it isn't there, the information is there you just need to open your mind.

no, I prefer to use me eyes when watching videos, wouldn't want my imagination distracting me, well been somewhat amusing but now it is time for me to go to sleep.

It seems to me some people overstate the scale of the Inquisition. As Bioware stated your army is not big enough to go around conquering places and some such, in the end you probably only have a couple thousand soldiers spread out over dozens of keeps. Those aren't huge fighting forces and when Red Templars, who are several levels above the common soldiers, show up at the keep, then maybe your people need help.

I agree it'd be annoying if the keeps are always needing to be rescued.  Though they can hopefully alleviate this by not focusing too much on strictly military threats - helping out the keeps by investigating conspiracies or handling tricky diplomatic tasks would fit better than coming in and killing all the bad guys.

And maybe there can be an occasion or two where your soldiers - with perhaps some companions who weren't in the party - can be "the cavalry" and save the Inquisitor?  And some occasions where stationing a few soldiers provides a valuable contribution and doesn't need the player to look after them.

I suppose we could rework the game as a strategy title. This will require a delay.

When would be good?

Can I have a copy of whatever you've got going on now instead? I'll still pay for the final and accept the pre-alpha, I just don't want the strategy game. Not a fan. :P

2025.

But it's gotta look like this. Hopefully the holography tech will be up to par.

BTW, here are going to be my dangerous cliches with attitude.

1. "A stitch in time saves nine". And it's going to be pissed

2. "A watched pot never boils". And it's going to be skulky.

3. "Every journey begins with a single step." And it is going to be in a big ass funk

Ehhh, I'm still working on 4-9. But yeah, they will be dangerous.

This most likely. I don't mind coming to the rescue as long as it doesn't happen all the time. I've only seen bits of the video with crestwood so correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems this takes place quite early on in the game And as such most of your men could be new recruits and not have the best gear right now so a bunch of red lyrium addled Templars in heavy plate armour probably would kick their butts at that point. Like I said though I've only seen bits of the video ans could be completely wrong.

But you don't capture keeps for them, you can have their help capturing keeps. I was under the assumption that if you have your army helping you, the timer for how quickly you must capture the keep is much longer or some other benefit is added.

In the "Western Approach" the keep there was guarded by what, 11 enemies? Your telling me that the inquisitor's army can't take out 10 soldiers and 1 mage? The red templers, they were at a disadvantage because they weren't in their territory. And they should have fewer soldiers than the Inquisition judging from the number of boats.

they should be able to capture keeps without your help.

The demo showed a "dumbed down" version of what we will be facing, if you dont know that, then your critical judgement means nothing. This is why criticizing a game before its release isnt justified for the most part

So your job is to do nothing while they do the work? Keep in mind that you also can have your forces defend the town so it doesn't get burned down and you lose varric.

The reason the army may seem incompotent is because it is a video game. Games always have it so the player is always uber powerful compared to the normal rank and file, the latter of which seem weak because it means the player has more to do.

That said, we don't know how they are yet. For all we know, the battle for Crestwood shows your troops there for the most part holding their own against the much more powerful Red Templars.

Yeah, we should have a game where we get to sit on a throne and read mail and sometimes write down orders... and send them....

That sure sounds like fun!

I'm not clear what's being requested here. Do you just want to push a button and have your soliders capture a keep? What fun would that be?
