Knowing what was coming with those original endings actually saved me a lot of frustration, I think, although I'll tell ya, those other few who knew ahead of release alongside me... we share a kind of unbreakable fellowship, being the union of users who watched the calm before the storm as BSN, ignorant to what was to come, busied itself collectively complaining over relatively small things. :P

I think I would have been frustrated regardless of when I found out. I read snippets of people saying it was bad, but I admit I wasn't really prepared for HOW bad. I wonder if it was as obvious to you as it was to me in retrospect what would happen. It certainly seemed obvious to some at Bioware based on some interviews that came out as we approached the launch date. "Remember it's the journey, guys" leaps out at me.

Anyway, this isn't really on topic.

I wish someone would make a "spoiler-free" topic for people who don't want spoilers, a topic only with info like...

- Keep

- configuration

- release dates

- maybe collector edition infos / exclusive items / partnerships

- maybe demo

Some times i just get addicted at stuff. Certain songs, games, movies, books, shows, scenes from movies, scenes from shows, dialogue lines etc etc etc. My interest is so intense it is unbelievable. I re watch/read/listen these things for days. But for some reason or another at some point and time my interest drops, flops or whatever you call it. I just forget them and move on. Now i am addicted with following DAI development closely, i feel like as soon as we get bigger reveal on combat and dialogue in the game, i will let go and just expect the launch of the game, without daily searching for all possible info.

One bigger update will keep me satisfied till launch. I prefer no info at all than little teases, with companion outfists and puny stuff because those are the things that keep me hooked. In my opinion Bioware does this perfectly, because they release small things which keep you interested and in /expectation mode. They keep the suspense high enough with those "we will talk in the future prior launch about these important things, till then see those outfits and beautiful landskapes and concept arts.....

These forums have a spoiler tag to hide things behind, it would be nice if people considered what they were posting before they did and used it.

Alas, they typically tend to set up (multiple game sub)forums that are Spoiler and Non-Spoiler only after release.

That said, people seem to now have the perpetual ability to edit their posts for spoiler tags, and so if anybody gives away something too awfully juicy before game release, I hope people will tell them to put spoiler tags on it.

Of course, if it's "true rumor" et al. it might not really be a spoiler, just a rumor.

I have to admit to looking through comics on dragon age origins and coming across one that spoiled near the ending of DA2 and feeling a sense of sorrow. When I played DA2 I felt nothing when it happened, which made me feel disheartened. But seems anything not related to storyline/plot I'm a-okay with, especially companions gotta know who my buddies will be ^_^

This discussion really comes down to personal preference, there are those that play games to be fully immersed and for them any minute detail about the game prior to playing can really ruin it. Then there are those that play for simple entertainment and couldn't care less what is spoiled beforehand. We all knew the ship was going to sink at the end of Titanic, but it still was a good movie (well I thought so anyway).

Those are the two extremes of the spectrum, I would consider myself leaning somewhere closer to 'immersive gamer' than the other, but certainly not to that extreme. I trust developers to do a good job setting the 'scene' for the drama and then allowing me to play through the most important parts and be surprised. I am yet to find a case in BioWare's history where I was 'spoiled' and I stayed connected with the forums all the time leading up to most of their new releases.

Another thing to consider is that if you go down the 'fully immersive' path, I think you are setting up for disappointment. Your Inquisitor will be introduced to you as an adult, there is a wealth of backstory to write before you hit 'start game' that you can't possibly write if you don't have some concept of the world, it's people, and even why your character is special and involved in it. I think the lead in hype to the game will just help to paint the picture for me, which will actually enhance my ability to write a meaningful backstory to my character and make me feel more like they are my own.

But that's just me.  :)

That is a nice suggestion. If something like that were implemented, then people such as myself would be obligated to stay.

I do not mind learning about Keep related stuff or even technical aspects of the game such as the ability to pick from 1 of 2 voices for your character. That is fine, but I doubt something like that would be created.

I'm tempted to go dark myself, but I don't think anything will spoil the game for me.

Well they tried that with the PAX demo. Just showing gameplay without a hint of the overarching plot. Maybe they will continue to do this. I mean even companion reveals don't spoil anything besides you knowing who you can recruit in the game.

That's true, which is why I liked the demo. It was very early on, though. To me knowing who I recruit does spoil some of the surprise, though usually it's pretty obvious from the models. But I was mostly unspoiled when it came to ME2 (by impressive, impressive avoidance of all possible previews), and so I had quite a few surprises like seeing Garrus as Archangel.

I'll steer clear of the forums entirely when people are playing the game, until I've done it a couple of times myself.  I'm still finding hidden nuggets of stuff in Origins. For now, I hope that new threads will have titles that tell about spoilers or spoiler related topics, so there is a choice whether to open it or not, and not have vague headings. It won't stop me coming back here just to see what's going on with other forums.

I hope I can.
I hate spoilers.

Get the game and after watching Angry Joe review ill most likely disconnect from the internet for a month, even more if its released sometime in november. Of the 8 bioware games ive played i always knew the conclusion or pivotal plot points(unfortunately). Im going into this game as blind as possible.

I mean, thanks for letting us know. That's nice.

Do you know what I feel about spoilers? Nothing. It's less about knowing the story, and more about experiencing it. When I was in middle school, way long ago, I discovered a little known movie called The Boondock Saints. For the next two years, I watched it on, literally, a weekly basis. I may have missed a couple weeks here and there, but I was usually always on target. I knew exactly what was going to happen at any point and I could recite every line, but feeling it was such a great experience. It's like my favorite series of novels. I may know what's going to happen, know that character X falls in love with character C and that character B turns out to be a bad guy, but who gives a ****? Of course, there is some argument to the whole "experiencing it for the first time" thing, but knowing a bit about the plot and a rough outline of a few characters isn't going to change that.

Who cares if you know who all the companions are? (which, by the way, the devs said they weren't going to be releasing info on all of them)

Who cares if you know the basis for the plot?
Is it really a big deal if you know the name of your main fortress?
Is knowing what specialization you can choose as a rogue before the game releases really going to make a difference in the experience?

I'll go on blackout before the game is released, but not this soon - probably a month or so before release. That's usually before stuff like game leaks happen and some jerk feels compelled to post endgame spoilers all over the general forum. I'm certainly hanging around until we have an actual release date and some more information about gameplay.

To a lot of people it is a big deal. I understand that you and others feel like the experience, not the narrative is the important part of the game. However, to the opposite of you are people who feel like the narrative, and being freshly immersed into a world and it's characters as you play it for the first time. When I get DA:I this fall and I sit down on my couch, power on my PS4 with DA:I in it and watch from my 55'' TV as I begin my journey into DA:I, it is a great experience for me to go in not knowing what I am really getting myself into. How do I become the leader of the Inquisition and when? When and where do I meet my companions. Who are some of the main antagonist? All of this I will be learning for the first time, just as my character is. This gives the game (at least the first playthrough) that special novelty that I would not have gotten if all of that was  ruined for me by reading an IGN preview, or some thread title in the forums.

I understand your perspective and I respect it. However, for me story/narrative is really important to me so therefore I want to know less as possible.

It's interesting to me to see that people are distinguishing between immersion in the game (no spoilers) and simple entertainment (spoilers).

My experience is that I can fully immerse myself in a game even if it has been entirely spoiled - even in a first playthrough the fact that I know where it's heading doesn't mean I alter the way I make decisions. I just make the right decision for the character and see how it plays out.

I would say I passively absorb spoilers rather than seeking them out though so there are always a few surprises left.

I'm pretty much like this as well, though when I do see spoilers it appears out of context for me until I experience it myself, so I'll still be surprised and enjoy it all, and tbh once I start playing a new game, any spoilers I looked at are instantly forgotten xD

Who cares if you know the basis for the plot?

This is the only point I'd quibble with you about. It's called Inquisition because we are leading an Inquiry or Inquest into something (the Veil Tears.) We are trying to find out the answer to a mystery: who opened them, and why. (Presumably, of course, so they can be sealed.)

Yeah, I really don't want to know the ultimate answers to my Inquiry beforehand, especially if the answer involves some kind of plot twist.

So there, it matters.

Of course, in playthroughs 2-x, the ultimate answers might be known, but there could be all kinds of subsidiary things to find out. Those I don't mind being spoiled before I experience them.

If they do this after they've clearly marked forums as Spoiler and Non-Spoiler, then they deserve to be smacked with the Stick of Truth ™. Hard.

There will always be some no-life scumbag who sits down and plays all 40 hours of the game in 3 days after release. Of course, his mother's basement is stacked with all the life support he needs, and he has no other employment or life, so he can do this. But if you are that scumbag, post your spoilers in the spoiler forums, please.

Some will do it for the lulz, hopefully for those who care, they will not just be banned but their posts hidden, or forcibly put under spoiler tags.

Actually I am just replying to comments made in this thread and have not been taking notice to what is going on in the forums overall. Eventually this discussion will die down and there would be no purpose for me to linger on here.

While I am at it, I might say that having the willpower is not what is important. What is important is that there will be a slew of other "distractions" for me to take my mind off of Dragon Age: Inquisition.

First off, to cure my DA itch, I will read Asunder, Masked Empire, and Last Flight....all of which I have not read it so that is 3 novels worth of DA content (Non DA:I spoilers) that I can engage in to pass time. Then there are the other games such as Destiny that comes out in early September, about 1 or 2 months before DA:I releases. Furthermore, the open beta for Destiny is this summer, most likely in June, just in time for E3 and a way for me to be engaged in other gaming affairs while a slew of DA:I information is released to the public.  Speaking of E3 2014, I can still follow the event but not DA:I as there will be news on Destiny, Halo 5 (And possibly Halo 2 Anniversary), Uncharted 4?, The Order 1866, Project Morpheus? etc....

Finally, there is actual real life such as spending time with my wife/stepsons, work, and working on my Master's Degree. Before I know it, The Keep will be released in which I can play with that for the month leading up to DA:I and then I can go into the game fresh and only knowing the bare details that have been revealed Pre-April 2014 as the bulk of the "soft spoilers" will be revealed this summer and early fall as the videogame convention season kicks off with E3 then Comic-Con, PAX, and Gamescom.

Yeah, there's a metric effton of things out there in the real world. Usually more than adequate to keep me occupied through and through. I'm probably only a frequent poster anywhere on the net roughly a fifth of any given year. I go through cycles, as all those who know me here are aware.

All this willpower talk is having a weird faux reverse-psychological effect on me and almost daring me to go dark.

I knew it! Everyone is against me! This is some kind of trick to make Jeff leave! :(

I like to take part in the excitement and enthusiasm as new aspects of the game are revealed. I will try to avoid as much as I can about detailed info on story and companions, but there is always a risk of getting spoiled. I'm okay with taking that risk. More power to those who are disciplined enough to go dark so early on in the reveal stage. :)
