The only real problem I have with Sera's hair is that it looks so... low-quality. Like, I don't know. The textures and colouring just seem... off.

 

Otherwise, I love everything about her. And I especially love that none of the female companions we've seen so far are generically attractive.

Really good looking hair is extremely expensive and difficult to make in CG. There's a reason Tangled had an entire department dedicated to making Rapunzel's hair look and move like... well, hair. That's obviously an exteme example. The Frostbite engine can do a lot, but at the end of the day I'd rather a character with servicable looking hair who can actually emote and move correctly than a character with fantastic hair whose face is so uncanny valley it'll haunt my nightmares for eternity.

Hair is one of the three hardest things to animate so I've heard. The other two being clothes and water.

Those would be correct. Which is why the dresses and robes in Frozen always make me giggle with glee. They just move so much like fabric, it blows my mind. Speaking of, apparently ice and frost are also really hard to get right. Solid water, I guess.

Tvtropes actually has a trope for just this thing.

 

I mean I know only a small amount of animation from taking a class on it, but hair and fabric animation is freakishly annoying to animate well.

Which is why Pixar, Dreamworks, and Disney all have a lot of people working on it.

 

I prefer them focusing on other things rather then hair physics myself.

I guess. Sera most reminds me of a character in Neil Gaiman's Sandman comics, Lady Johanna Constantine. She chopped up her blonde hair something awful to go undercover (another connection) during the Reign of Terror in Revolutionary France.

I hope to see Sera somewhere. I'm really curious about her personality, because I have no idea who she is. It would be cool if we could see a few interactions that could indicate a bit where it leads.
