It promotes inequality. Adding the gender suggests they are not the same character as the opposite gender when in fact, they are (or can be) exactly the same.

Only when she gets referred as fem and the dude with the name only then i have a problem. Besides rarely people call the dudes male hawke and maleshep, why should we do the same too? Hawke is Hawke and Shepard is Shepard.

 

You can mention you play as lady and leave it at that.

 

 

Or you can call Hawke by the name of your choice and ppl will know you play as female.
