So I was reading Sera's character profile and one bit stuck out for me:
The Inquisition is the fastest Sera's ever seen someone “in power” move. She's never had the chance to get in early and make sure those heading to the top stay humble.
In ancient Rome a general who had won a great victory would be recognized in Rome with a Triumph celebrating the conquering hero. The Triumph was like a victory parade on steroids. The whole city would turn out to cheer the victorious general and his army parade through the city on its way from the Field of Mars to the Forum, the general dressed like a king and riding on a richly decorated chariot, while his victorious soldiers marched to music and sang marching sons. In front marched the defeated enemy leaders, bound in chains, followed by servants displaying captured treasures, and paintings and models depicting significant events of the war. While all of this was going on however, and with the crowd wildly cheering the general's name, a servant rode in the chariot occasionally reminding the conquering hero, "Remember that you are just a man! Remember that you'll die!"
It was a warning against the arrogance of believing oneself to be a god, or to forget that despite being at the peak of his career that day, fate or rivals may someday strike him down.
I wonder if Sera might play a similar role with the Inquisitor, cautioning against the arrogance that might come with a meteoric rise to power. If the Inquisitor is the type that lusts for power and seeks it at every opportunity, and lords it over the 'little people,' I wonder if that is going to put him or her at odds with Sera.
