I think it's understandable for people to be disappointed, but maybe not so much if they're swearing off elves and refusing to even talk to Sera.

Set sexualities are a good thing, they're good for representation. Happiness. Pats on the back all round. Let's not fight about it.  ^_^

I do want to echo this, despite what may seem like some callousness on my part in other discussions.

But I think it's akin to being disappointed because we're not going to Nevarra because you really, really want to.  Doubly so because those lucky fans of Orlais will get to wander around the place that they like so much.

Hoping for content, and not getting it, is (for better or worse) a pretty common thing.  I always hope for a whole heck of a lot out of games I look forward to.  The trick I developed for myself is to still be open about what I actually do get in my games.

Wait really?

Yeah, there were a couple of people in the romance thread like that. They're the loud minority.

Ok well, there are now literally no characters I want to romance for a straight male.

Lovely.

There had better be a ton more they haven't announced, or a really really well fleshed out brothel in the game.

Hoping modders will be able to bypass the stupid orientation gating at some point in after launch.

It doesn't feel very authentic though since the inquisitor will not be able to talk during romance scenes, and the LIs would always treat you as the original gender. Dragon Age is a game that carries your decision over, so the sequel wouldn't recognize your romance. I tried the mod with Alistair in DAO, but it's very frustrating when he keeps treating me like a girl, so I just stop it altogether. I would rather for them to put it in there instead of having to mod, but alas, playersexual was ruined by the vocal groups. I feel it's just an artificial barrier to have set sexuality, but que sera sera.

She's talking about Pink Diamond, who dislikes all bisexual/gay characters.

There were, but like I said, only a few. Pink Diamond is an obvious stand out, however. All class, that one.

Just to note, all bisexual characters would mean less total romanceable characters.  Which means that people that would get romances they want now would not get them then.

I think you also overstate the influence that "vocal groups" had on us doing something like this.  Because some people happen to call for something, doesn't mean that it was their influence that caused us to do said thing.

So, Sera is going to be same-sex only, huh? Cool. More power to the people who will enjoy that part of her.

I, on the other hand, have a pretty silly reason for liking that news:

No possibility of ninjamance! (For the male Inquisitor I am planning.)

While my first Inquisitor will be a female mage, my second one will be a male warrior or rogue. For that one, I'm already intending authoritarian overtones that would make Sera an excellent foil character.

And, let me say, it will be rather nice not to have to dance around a ninjamance for a foil but not necessarily hostile relationship.

She's a Wild Card, eh? Does that mean if she shoots herself in the head with her bow she can summon a bunch of Personas?

I'm going to interject here by pointing out that a single pairing is not going to be a factor between whether or not a species goes extinct or not.

I'd prefer to not continue down this path of thinking that we're anti-elf and facilitate their genocide because we don't let one particular character romance one particular elf.

Considering that elves are slaughtered and raped by humans on a daily bases, I thought for once they would catch a break in inquisition. I know you all want to make this about sexualty, but I'm talking about species here.

Not only do I see a lack of elven couples in DA, but in fiction in general and I hoped that this would be different. And I know you will say that you can be female and romance Solas but I am male and I like to play as male, the story for me just works better for me that way, and I don't find Solas as anymore of an option as Zevran from Origins.

I would be content if Sera was at the very least bisexual so male elf inquisitor can have an elven romance for the first time in the series. It's something to consider.

That's interesting.

I imagined that the number of romancable characters would be based around resources and whether they wanted to make certain characters romancable.

So what do you think of Sera, Allan?

While a bisexual character (probably) involves less work than two separate characters, it's also going to involve a bit more than a single sexuality romance. Depending on your budget allocation, you might be faced with a tradeoff of one bisexual for two single-sexuality characters.

Someone, somewhere, will still try and ninjamance you. When you least expect it. It wouldn't be a Dragon Age game without it.

Oh, Anders and Leliana. I love you both, just not in that way. *friendzoned*

True, true- but in that context, it won't be Sera.

I will laugh if it occurs in the first play through, though. I'm intending my Necromancer to be creepy-good, capable of disturbing things but also polite. And we know what being polite means to some Bioware characters...

What does Sera being gay has anything to do with elves being raped and such?

I mean she's a rebel elf who's trying to make things better , isn't that enough?

And we don't know if we can romance Solas...

I guess, but considering that romance options are half the game for some people, myself included, you would thing having a lot of options would be a priority.

Sera was the only potential option for a straight male that I found even marginally interesting. Given that my preference is playing a straight male, im basically S.O.L. and J.W.F. here.

Before the game was pushed back for a year, David Gaider mentioned not liking NPC romance, but Cullen is now a confirmed romance, so the NPC romances were added, but I'm sure the core romance with the companions would still remain the same like Sera and Cassandra. While I'm glad NPC romance was added to compensate for the set sexuality, it may also mean that the companion romance's "playersexuality" was changed because of it. Unless there is another set of male or female among the companions, we're basically exchange the playersexuality for companion romance for a pair of NPC romance. IMO, I have to see how they handle it to see if it's worth the trade-off.

I only ever got ninjamanced by Leliana. Everyone else was extremely easy to avoid.

Damn Lel, I just said your hair was nice, and it was a joke because I accidentally picked the same style and color as you since I didn't know you'd be a character.

"Choose between Alistair and I. You can't have us both."

But DA never had lots of romance options to begin with.

Elves and humans can reproduce together. I don't understand why an individual has to bear the responsibility for what the whole group do. We are all individuals, just because the humans rape and kill elves don't mean that every single person does that, and the love between 2 person shouldn't be too dependent on the outside appearance.

I really dont follow that logic at all.

The bottleneck for creating characters is less writing, and more cin design.

DA2 had 2 player models and 4 love interests, meaning custom cinematic scenes (required if you have intimate touching) required 8 scenes (assuming you only need one).

DAI has 8 player models.  If we have at least 4 love interests (I suspect our minimum), that takes 32 scenes (assuming we only need one).

Alternatively, if we were to have no bisexual characters, we could use 4 (one gender, 4 races) per pairing, and we could have 8 love interests in the game with not tooooooo much extra work required by cinematics (writing would need more, but if it is determined that they have the capacity and cin design does not, then it's not a net drain on the overall timeline).

Now lets say we have those 8 love interests, and we mandate that in order to be fair they must be bisexual.  Now we have 64 scenes to make.  Lets assume a scene takes a cindesigner one day to make.  We just added a full man month of work to the cindesigners.  John Epler would be very, very sad :(
