I think it's mostly that people were not expecting that particular brand of nastiness. As for it being easy to avoid, we don't really know that yet. We don't know if it's a one-off mission or the result of a chain of events.
Magics going to happen. They wouldn't keep her like that for the rest off the game. A horror that no one wants to look at. They just wouldn't.
And yes, I did see it. My friend (a d***!) told me to come and look at a picture and it was her and I... I...

Seriously, if that's unavoidable I will flip a table.
They confirmed that not everyone would see that scene, so yes, we can avoid it. I will grind my skills/influence/crafting options so much... Gotta be as powerful as possible to protect our ladies! All of them!

I think it's entirely possible that All that Remains left me completely inured to anything lesser.
The fact that another character went though something even more horrific doesn't somehow make... That... palatable for me. At least, as you say, you can avoid having it happen to Leli, but... Yuk.

Still you don't seem so far at all
And I hear
This Calling...!
You were talking about the band right?

At this point I'm not sure if I'm more anxious imagining things than i would be just knowing...

Oh, it's not palatable. I just don't care, in large part because I won't have to see it.
Do I want to know?

Well put it this way. If you don't see it now, and you get it in game, you will want to cry.

Oh hey wow. Actually I'm impressed, I'm interested to see how that all plays out.

No Russian? That was a pathetic attempt at weighty narrative, made more disturbing by people taking it seriously.
On the bright side:
See, always a silver lining.

Agreed. I enjoyed that mission a lot more than all the other missions because... well, it's CoD. There's only so much fun you can have. Take the fun (no matter how twisted) where you can.

ehh I wasn't bothered... just figured to mention it as a example since it did cause a uproar to some while others don't care
There was trailer of unreleased game that caused a uproar too but forgot the name XD

Can't say I see the fun in walking through a narrow corridor shooting poorly scripted, completely defenceless Russians over and over again, but then I guess that explains why I don't like any of the missions in those games.

Spoiler
That was my first thought.
Except my Warden didn't romance Lels. She fell for Alistair, who let her after the landsmeet.

To be honest, I'm not entirely clear on how exactly we can avoid that subplot. I've seen conflicting reports from members around here. I know BW said it's avoidable but that's still pretty vague.
I agree, though. Protecting the ladies comes first!

I'm sure we go to that place in any case, but how and when might vary based on our choices. I'll make sure to level up my agents as much and as soon as possible.

My canon warden (and hence the first world state I'll load) romanced Morrigan and walked through the Eluvian, but there's no way I want to see that happen to Leli. She's awesome. If there's a way to avoid it, I will.
Edit: That's the last time I'd consider a male playthrough as my canon in a Bioware game, thinking about it. FemShep and FemHawke FTW.

She won't stay that way though. I'm pretty sure they wouldn't do that. They probably do some magical thing like how she
