Allan whathisname gave a sort of survey about things like this. It was about where BioWare fall into the same holes with how romances work and this was pointed out. Hopefully in the next game (DA, ME or new ip), something will be done to change the conventions they use.
Yes, I was very vocal in that thread when he made it, I just hope it can lead to some positive changes in their future games.

Oddly I'm not interested in Cass, at least until I know her better. Not because she's a strong woman. Not because she has short hair. Not because I don't think that she's physically beautiful. I think she's great looking and find those other qualities attractive. What I worry about is her religiosity. I didn't mind it so much in Leliana as her ideas were quite individualistic and she'd clearly put a lot of thought into them, but I suspect that Cass is a bit more of a traditional Andrastean, and it's clearly a very important part of her personality. Not really my type as an atheist...

I've been switching back and forth between wanting to romance her with a dudequisitor and not having any interest in romancing her at all. But it's really too early to make any certain decisions. What is certain, however, is that I just want to get to know her on my first playthrough.

Josie & Cullen are advisers that cannot be kicked, afaik, so that puts them in a different class of romances. It is cool that one of them is bisexual.
But out of the companion LI, if we end up with: Sera, Dorian & IB being easily dismissable, but Blackwall, Cass, and Solas being essential/ANGST to get rid of them...that will be the exact same pattern in Origins that was upsetting.
Basically in terms of LI, I think the only ones who might bring something new to the table in terms of that "queer optionality shoved to the side" thing are Josie and possibly Dorian. And to be honest, it would bother me if it was just Josie. I really hope Dorian is a Big Deal.
This is all pretty cynical and I don't mean to be too harsh....I'm just tired of certain things, and I'd rather go in assuming that's how its going to be, than get my hopes up and have them dashed.

I've been fortunate enough to simply find straightness in women to be an unattractive trait, which I suspect has saved me from a number of the heartbreaks some of my friends end up suffering from. I felt like the only one lol.
I would have preferred for Harding to be a LI instead of Josie but hopefully I will grow to enjoy her. Of course now I'm already worried that Harding will end up as my next disappointment in the next game. lol
I know, I wish they made Harding a romance for dwarves only instead of Solas. Shhh, don't tell the Solas thread. Don't want to start any fights.
Given her popularity, we can hope that Harding will be made a companion in the next Dragon Age game. Making popular NPCs into companions seems to be a Dragon Age tradition. lol
So I played the ea early access trial yesterday and the game is amazing, from the story, scenery, music, etc. It was great interacting with the different companions and advisors as well.
