Well she's not Ingrid Bergman, but my opinion has changed with the camera angles so I'm withholding judgment until I see her in game.

She comes from a place called Gran Pulse and she kicks major ass.

Her and Vanille join together at the end of FFXIII and become Ragnarok, some weird god thing that should have destroyed Cocoon but instead, they save it by creating a sort of pillar from Gran Pulse to Cocoon which stopped it from crashing into the world below. Fang and Vanille end up in crystal stasis and throughout FFXIII 2, you work to try and find a way to free them (as well as, you know, save the world from some bad guy who controls time). 

 

 

That's her (well not quite hers - but it's the exact same model) Eidolon. They are like Gods that are given to those who, after a crisis, become powerful enough to command them.

There are also at least two threads out there with people convinced that Sera is batshit Joker insane, unfortunately. Someone suggested it had to do with the alchemical stuff she's imbibing.

Which actually makes me wonder if her alchemy thing will be mentioned.

She's kind off both. She's a companion but her goal is to complete her focus which would in turn kill millions of people. If she doesn't complete it, she turns into a monster so really she has no choice. But of course, the game comes up with someway where they can all become big goddamn heroes!
