Agreed, and now my government wants to build an arsenal of tungsten rods that they could drop from orbit as " kinetic penetrators ". Sigh, only 80 to 100 years and we could become a Type 1 society sadly I don't see that happening.

Reminded me of the burning of the library of Alexandria and all of that lost knowledge.

I wrote out a whole paragraph explaining what they met by "war never changes" but then I realised that this is not the place and that im a huge fricken nerd lol

I know what it is supposed to mean, but it is still selective. As a rule it doesn't encourage analysis or discussion only bitterness.

It may be cold, but trying to kill each other is one of our greatest inspirations for scientific advance. Programmable computers were born out of code breaking and calculating targeting solutions for warships.

So they pretty much want to build the real-life counterpart to mass accelerators?

Cool. Except not cool if they achieve similar results.

In ME, a dreadnought fires what essentially has the effect of a nuclear bomb.

Let's hope the effect of that real life thing is nowhere near that.

Did I mention that humanity is a bunch of idiots yet?

And no, the basic bits of war never have changed.

We either fight for freedom, to enlarge our lands, or for strategic resources.

And even with laser rifles and stuff, that will never change.

Einstein's quote comes to mind: "I don't know what weapons Third World War will be fought with, but the fourth will be fought with sticks and stones."

Yeah. Maybe not exactly fitting, but... I think it suggests that we'll always fight for the same stupid (well, sometimes stupid) reasons. And bring ourselves back to the stone age that way.

Damn. I'm a lot more philosophical since I'm on college.

Well, one of the greatest minds of the previous century said it.

I guess we'll have to hope he was wrong.

Oh well. Hopefully, we'll be six feet under by the time someone decides WW3 is a good idea.

Don't even want to think about those buggers.

With a little luck it'll be more or less "The World againist the Baddie" though.

Ok, a lot of luck.

Let's not discuss this. It makes me real depressed.

And if I'm depressed from this, imagine how much Alexia will be.

This is definitely not how I imagined post 1500.

You know how Watson in the new BBC Sherlock is an Afghanistan veteran? He was in the nineteenth century original, too. The middle east has been in flux for a long while now. I doubt they'll be starting WWIII, though... They don't seem to have that capability.

If a lot more Islamic countries either backed them or fell under there regime, we would be in trouble. At the moment, it's more like a few bad apples. We've also got North Korea with that crazy new leader. Add one more major bad guy willing to pick up a nuclear weapon and we are f***ed.

Edit: Sorry, don't want to make everyone depressed.

You're just stating facts.

It certainly isn't looking up in the world.

But hey. We've a game to look forward to.

I checked my bank account today and GameStop UK have taken the money for my Inquisitor edition!  :P

Now I just need Friday to hurry up

I wasn't very amused when the Quizzy edition was announced as GS only because they only have a website here, no actual shops and I get a bit suspicious of unfamiliar online only shops. As long as its delivered on Friday, nothing else matters now  ;)

You know you've watched way too much Archer when your first reaction to this post is: "Well duh, that agency's a total catastroph-...

Wait..."

(ISIS was the name of spy agency in Archer. Until they changed it for obvious reasons.)

If it makes you guys feel any better, I'm a child of the cold war. It didn't end until my mid teens. It feels less scary to me now than it did then in terms of war, at least.

No, kinetic weapons refer to dropping something heavy from orbit. The explosion you get for a given mass of mundane material is actually quite remarkable. Newton is a bastard.

Mass drivers are throwing things using magnets, like a coilgun or gauss rifle.

Am I some sort of fashionista/trend setter? Am I... Cool?

Pfft, I've had female avatars since ME3's beauty contest voting for female Shepard.

You're ignoring how astonishingly good the West is at kicking everyone else down. But politics discussions were against the rules last time I checked.
