If you're a Dwarf, well, it's obvious why. You're smuggling the stuff.

If you're an Elf, you came to contact with Lyrium when you were little, and need it ever since to stay alive.

If you're a Human, the Trevelyans own a Lyrium mine.

If you're a Qunari, the Ben Hassrath tried to bring you into the Qun by putting Lyrium in your food.

 

If you're a Mage, it's even MORE obvious!
