Wow, I'm surprised no one commented on the party banter script I posted. Seems like no posts I make ever get commented on, haha.
Dont feel bad
Its just because the banter was posted a couple times in the thread(s).

Here's an Alister romance announcement artwork.
The message is 'Women love that Alistar is available.'
The Sera artwork posted is about how men feel about Sera being gay. You're not going to see a gay male character drinking straight woman tears because gay male sexuality isn't presumed to be about straight women.
The sad thing about that is none of the women in the comic care about Dragon Age until "Romance!" is announced.
I don't know if it's the truth or not. I don't want it to be. Alistair is trying to talk about important Darkspawn plot... stuff. Come on!
Should I be taking that quote down or something? That is the last time I post a quote from tumblr now I feel bad.
No no, you're fine, I promise.You don't have to remove it. ![]()
If nothing else, it serves to show how this thread generally conducts itself much better versus Tumblr.
The way I always saw it, they are discussing him (Alistair) and/or are unsure about him until the announcements is made, then the gloves are off. So to speak. It doesn't look like "not caring" but rather 'not sure what to think (yet)'.The sad thing about that is none of the women in the comic care about Dragon Age until "Romance!" is announced.
'Better than tumblr.'
Talk about being damned with faint praise.
That was a sincere compliment. Saying "Better than 4chan" would be damning the forums with faint praise. As well as utter hyperbole. ![]()
Tbh, i'm really surpirsed by the fact that many people wanted to romance her with a malequizzy.... Sera's news on her sexuality almost broke the bsn, got the thread locked for a while...
I'm scared of the time when they announce Cass and Cullen. LOL.
As someone who's actually glad that Sera is a lesbian option, I find this fanart pretty disgusting, even if it was intended as a joke.
This whole notion that a character has to be romanceable in order to be fulfilling never bodes well with me. Especially in Dragon Age where it can be proven that it is in fact a false outlook.
Personally, I am not amused by comments or fanart that appear to be "gloating" over Sera's sexual orientation, because in a few months (or even weeks or days, depending on when info comes out), I'll probably be the one silently weeping at my monitor, when I learn that one or more of the characters I was really interested in is deemed unattainable for my female Inquisitors.
I am pretty well versed in what I like and don't like, and what kind of people will be interesting to me, both as friends or more. I know I'll just make a Forever Alone Inquisitor if I don't like any of the romance options I've been given, and while I'll definitely enjoy the companions even without romance, I remember from my experience with Mass Effect 2 that it can get pretty lonely in a Bioware fandom when you are not part of the majority who are gushing over LIs.
So yeah, I'm happy that there's a potential for one of my characters to romance Sera, but I can't bring myself to be smug about it. And I'll be happy if there's a heterosexual male character announced as a potential LI for a female Inquisitor, but I'm *definitely* not going to be thrilled at all about the people who wanted their gay male Inquisitors to romance that character. I just don't see anything fun or funny about denying others an experience that I get to have in a video game that is supposed to be escapism.
What cute, blonde, elvish, Robin Hood type and you are shocked people wanted to romance her!
I certainly was really excited about doing so with the elf I had planned and that's gone now.
Given the high no of people who dislike orientation gating coupled with those who will change their mind when they find the character they like is un available yeah there will be much more bloodbaths in months to come.
Eh. I don't think it'll be that bad especially in comparison to the ME3 ending and DAII's general reception, but yeah. There's definitely going to be some threads and de-railment that comes along with disappointment. At least we're already aware that each character has a specific orientation, so people's expectations can be tempered with the knowledge rather than if we'd never known about the different orientations.

Just out of curiosity, which characters in particular disappointed you there?
I'm a guy and a Jackmancer, but I always thought she could've clicked with women.
I will not deny that I laughed out loud hard. Missperona, you get a cookie.
Edited to add: I simply viewed it as cashing in on a tumblr meme.

Oh man, this is a saga for another thread, but I was primarily a Kaidan fan, and I also had a Shepard who romanced Liara. Finding out that both were not going to be on the team for ME2 was not fun. I ended up never getting the Paramour achievement in ME2, because you can't get it with Liara in Lair of the Shadow Broker.
I know lots of people had no problem moving on from the ME1 love interests, but the only ME2 squadmate that interested me was Miranda, and since I don't play male characters...yeah, my Forever Alone Shepards really enjoyed their chats with Mordin and mooning over a picture frame before the Suicide Mission. -__-
It's funny, because in DA:O, I was able to romance Leliana, go from her to Alistair, and then end the game married to him as Queen with Zevran as my sidepiece (he doesn't mind that term, I'm sure), and felt no guilt about it. But I guess it was a credit to the ME1 team that I was actually kind of outraged by the idea that I was supposed to cast aside my ME1 romances for the new squad. I *love* ME2, but I will never, ever experience any of the romances.

I'm just happy that I figured out how to AdBlock out that spiteful little image.

Ah, I see. Yeah, that's how I felt about ME3 (since I got attached to my ME2 crew). I guess they did that to even out the experience (so we felt like players like yourself in ME2)?
I hope they don't do that again. Ash/Kaidan/Liara fans. ME2 fans later. No one seems to like it.
The last character I got kind of attached too was Tali, so when she became an option in ME2, that was great. Jack is similarly interesting (just not as much as Tali) since romancing her gives you a different side of her character.
DA2 was like having them line up and yell "pick me ! pick me !" Even if I don't get the LI choice I want, I still want the LI's to maintain distinct preferences that do not revolve around the PC.Not just in romance, but in every aspect of the game.
The gloating is I think tasteless and likely to just make people who were not bothered or supportive react in a negative way. First and foremost for me, it's about Sera as a character, not about some sort of "victory".

I didn't really get that from the picture. It's just the basic "Hahha some people are crying they can't date one of the characters." It doesn't really imply at all that she wouldn't be a good character if you couldn't romance her.
I think it's kinda funny, speaking as someone who will be very disappointed if I can't date some of the characters. If I act up about I dunno, Iron bull not being romanceable I wouldn't care if someone drew a picture of him drinking my gross sobby tears.

Not sure I agree. If it was the other way round and lesbian tears I'm sure there would be much offence taken.
I still don't really see where it gets implied that a character has to be romancable to be fulfilling?
Edit: Wait, you're not the person I replied to before, so you never said that, whoops

The difference being of course that lesbians aren't the ones constantly catered to 24/7 in the video game industry.

I'm no artist myself, but good lord, that second picture.
It's like they didn't even try.

I don't see as that makes a difference. Either way it's tasteless.
