Then why in hell is she with the Inquisition? We're the organization for dealing with magical weirdness. And if her mind didn't break after being physically thrown into the Fade, I find it incredibly unlikely that acknowledging the Creators would.

 

I don't think Sera really thought it through when she joined. I think she mainly saw the inquisition as a force for good in a world gone mad. As to why she stays...Who knows? Perhaps she simply feels safe with us. As for the fade part...She allready knew that the fade existed. It scares the dickens out of her but it doesn't really shatter her world. I just don't think we should think of Seras words and actions as we would those of an adult, but view her more as a child which she emotionally appears to be.

Made a few mistakes in choices, sold/lost rare equipment/materials by mistake, didn't plan proper inquisition perk spending, etc. Also I don't like my Ragequisitor's face.

 

And I discovered the item duplication glitch... and the infinite gold glitch... and the infinite influence glitch... I love breaking games! Don't judge me!

 

How did you find all that stuff....?

Sera just really, really needs her world view to stay stable . Magic scares her out of her mind and actually having to acknowledge that maybe the supernatural world has a hold on her life she isn't aware about... Its just too much. It would break her allready frail psyche so she will deny it to the death.

 

TL;DR: She needs a hug.

I got the impression that she's joining to see for herself if the Andraste's Herald thing is real and to try and answer questions about faith.  Of secondary concern is to help the little people caught in the middle of fighting.

 

She makes some comments at Skyhold along the lines of "I didn't sign up for all this crap" in regards to Corypheus and his Archdemonwhateverthing so it seems she didn't think things would be as crazy as the ended up being.

The really sad part is that the only way for elves to solve THE argument is to either break off the relationship, lie to her to make her feel better and thus be guilty of the very thing she hates her foster mother for or not be dalish (and the last option would beg the question why the person is playing an elf in the first place). There are no good choices in that scenario

Yeah. Merrill is awesome. And elfy. Actually her and Sera would probably not get along too well. Merrill is like one of the Elfiest Elves in Thedas.

I'm starting to really hope I won't actually see her physically in Inquisition now. With the story phase I'm at, it's kinda likely I'd just find out she's an Abomination or something now.

I think Dalish characters have a lot of their own beliefs to question during the game as it is since you learn a lot about the ancient Elves. In the end with Sera after arguing your point you get the choice to insist you are right or choose her and look forward instead of living in the past so the Inquisitor must decide what is more important based on what she knows.

For my character through learning much of what she was taught to be wrong and much of what she believed of the Chantry to be wrong she decided to look forward and try to build a better world and part of that includes being in love. She cares for Sera more than she cares about chasing old ghosts and being right about something so even if she doesn't fully agree with Sera she'll spare her feelings. It's not really a lie that hurts anyone and the Inquisitor believes everyone needs to change including the Dalish so it's not too far from what she believes anyway.

Well, the notable thing from her past is the noble woman who adopted her at a young age and how she would use Sera's race to manipulate her.  I think this is where her strong desire to distance herself from 'being an elf' comes from.  That relationship seemed emotionally abusive.  

 

Still, I think Sera's negative feelings are sadly misplaced.

 

Beyond that, what do we know about her past?

 

From what I gather, she was born in the Denerim Alienage and was orphaned at a very early age (I assume her parents died and she moved into the orphanage?).  At some point, she was caught stealing and a childless noble woman adopted her which prevented her from being sent back to the Alienage.  She was obviously unhappy there and ran away to eventually join up with a group of brothers to do Red Jenny business in Denerim.  She was active during the Blight but left shortly after and traveled to Val Royeaux.

I hardly see how lying, and thus talking down, to Sera is "caring" about her. If I respect her enough to let her fight by my side--certainly if I respect her enough to be in a relationship with her--I respect her enough to tell her my own beliefs as I see them. If she can't handle that, that's her choice to make--**** up the happiness you found because you couldn't get a damn grip on your incredibly brittle worldview.
