If Sera had anxiety and depression alone to deal with, I'd agree with you. But in her case I suspect a trauma in her past that she has buried so deep that she is not only unwilling but completely unable to talk about it. It's there in her subconscious all the time but her conscious mind just closes its eyes, covers its ears and goes LALALALA really loud. If Cole would do what you suggested and started talking about that thing she has buried...Seras mind would snap completely and she would kill him before he finished his first sentence. You just can't force the issue with a deeply traumatized person. Slowly, gently helping them along as they themselves work to find their way out of the maze the trauma has created is the approach I would choose. Those walls simply won't come down until she feels safe enough with us to let go.

Oh, and I don't think she's ever met a Dalish before quizzy. Fereldan Dalish are reclusive and she's an avowed cityslicker. She just dislikes them based on the stories, also tied in to what I wrote earlier her and elfiness.

Fun fact: Did you know Sera recites poetry? And is actually really frigging good at it? That rooftop is a magical place I tell you :D

Fine. How about Cole just tells me what it is?

Also, if there really is an issue that major in her past... I don't think Bioware would have never let us learn of it at all.

Like time travel, Coles mind reading abilities create plotholes merely by existing. Why doesn't he tell us the straight dope about Solas? Because reasons. I think they said somewhere that they were going for more lifelike characters this time around, less Jersey Shorey, and that's the reason none of the companions spill their guts to us quite like they used to. Sera is just an extreme case of that since we can see there is something major there but she will not talk about it. She does drop these hints here and there but you have to be really tuned in to pick up on them. In the end, she is the most believably broken character I have ever seen in a game and though it is frustrating from a personal view, I'm glad that they showcase that a broken mind is not something quickly or easily fixed.

Solas can wall off his mind. At one point, Cole is trying to analyze something and is shocked by the fact that Solas made it all vanish. I doubt Sera has the same power.

I'm not sure I would agree that there's necessarily something really bad in her past. I think she just doesn't like holding on to the past and prefers living in the moment and looking towards the future. That is one major problem she has with the Dalish or the nobles who have power because of what their family did way back in the day.

Unless I'm missing something

To continue on the theme of Sera's psyche: she's definitely touchy about where she came from. And she doesn't like Varric being too clever either...

Spoiler

Point goes to the dwarf.

And there's an ME3 reference in another banter.

This.

She wouldn't be the same if her past factored into who she is. That much is clear to me.

EA is done with Steam, so no, unfortunately not.

Alexia, I know you want a digital download, but I suggest a physical copy from your local game store. That's probably your quickest option at this point.

Why doesn't EA like Steam? I thought Steam was the go to place for PC.

It is, but EA didn't like them taking a cut of their profits (I think the precise issues were about DLC sales) so they made Origin, which is basically rubbish Steam for EA games.

I second that, it's the best option. ;) Unless you want to wait for a week..

Edit: oh, no local store.... that sucks.

I get the feeling there is something in her past from the bits and pieces of what she says and how she reacts. You'd have to go back a bit here to read all I've written, but essentially her behaviour raises many, many red flags. Yes, she does like to live in the present (not so much in the future, if you listen to the banter between her and Solas. The girl doesn't plan nor has she any particular vision for her future) but the question is why? What would make someone deny the past entirely? It could be that she is indeed as you say, but that would pretty much make her a cardboard cutout of a character, without depth or life, a caricature, and Bioware simply doesn't do those as main characters. It would have been a great waste of some fantastic voice acting and animation as both perform brilliantly to bring so many little nuances in to her seemingly random personality if they were wasted on a character who essentially isn't a character.

Start up a kickstarter. Say you need the game in order to build an awesome cosplay presentation for the next E3. There are always people that feel they have to help, trust me. Then, to make sure they don't demand their money back, go to E3 dressed up in awesome cosplay uniform. They will be none the wiser.

https://www.kickstarter.com

Go to that site. Post a "project" that you are "going to do" but need help with financially. Say you need $100 for my reason I gave. You will get so much more than $100.

Edit: A couple of years ago, in my college, someone started a kickstarted for their summer show. They needed £500, ended up getting something like £4000 through donations.

That money will let you get a taxi. Or you're own car if you get enough.
