Because it's not, she's making observations of people similar to Iron Bull when you to talk to him at the ball

So it's completely accidental that all the other remarks are about something those people (or in one case, their parents) should feel shame about, and she ends the sentence with disdainful note?

So it seems you are aware that lots of trans people were deeply offended by it. Are you really going to consider as valid only thoughts of those who share your opinion, while all the others that were affected by it are merely "a vocal subset that are bent on taking offence and making enemies of everyone"?

I do think that your and their interpretation is an overreaction, but I didn't mean to dismiss people's views out of hand. That's why I've subsequently attempted to argue civilly with you.

There are other personal reasons why I made that comment that are related to the very nasty way certain trans activists reacted to an event that some of my friends once organised with nothing but good intentions. They really aren't relevant here and neither you nor anyone else in this thread should be expected to know about them. Please accept my apologies.

Did I imply anything like that? One of first things I noticed during my arguments over "lesbian sleeping with a man and enjoying it" overused trope that angers me like nothing else is that among fans defending it were always some lesbian identified women, and they were always used to make a point as if their existence proved that any critique is therefore invalid.

This trope completely exists in movies and shows and im not arguing over this.

You used it to Sera and here's where i argued. This trope doesn't exist with Sera's story at all.

She has nothing but disdain for the nobility in general. That much is abundantly clear.

Don't be so America-centric. In Poland, where I live, age of consent is 15. Sera being 16 years old was supposed to highlight that she and PC don't seem to be on the same, or even similar, level, emotionally, and TBH, intelectually as well. It definitely doesn't look like parnership, so in the end, someone takes advantage of the other side.

I guess I'm hiding my nationality well enough, despite my obvious fails, if you really consider me SUCH an American.

20 I would say. Playing with a painted box doesn't make much sense if you're already 15 at the time.

I don't think the line is intended as transphobic. Sera is above all thoughtless: she doesn't think about the consequences of her actions or take the feelings of others into consideration (especially Elves and their religious beliefs). She lists a bunch of things that people would want to keep secret (stds, illegitimate child, etc.) and includes 'he is a she' in there as though it were shameful/bad/whatever.

I don't think that's how she meant it though. Sera likes one thing above all: to knock nobles off their pedestal. So she points out they're 'not so great' by revealing they have a disease, an illegitimate child, etc. I don't think it's Sera who has a problem with that. It's the people themselves, and she's using that to get to them, because they're nobles. She doesn't think beyond that. To her nobles are not really people so she doesn't care how sensitive an issue something is to someone.

TL;DR: Sera has no brain to mouth filter. ;)

Can't say that I am an activist of any sort, it doesn't even directly affect me, I just have opinions on what I see and share them. People are different, and it's unfair to point at some who behave bad to make statements about the whole group. I say this in general.

Speaking of that Sera's problem again, I think it just cumulated - if she had more redeeming qualities, people would be more forgiving. But she has been written as she has been written, so you always can kick that lesbian out, the devs took care of that.

Basically 16-20 seems to fit.

Change of subject: There's a fair bit of irony in Sera's character. She's for the people. The people are poor. Right? Listen to some of her observations in the wilder areas though...

She complains about trees, about the cold (heard her say that in the Hissing Wastes), about the mud, etc. What does she sound like?

A pampered little aristocrat brat, that's what. I wonder if that's why Cassandra laughs at her sometimes when she complains?

Wouldn't it have been kind of dull if BioWare had given us a bunch of nice, never offensive, always pleasant, heroic characters to deal with that never challenged us or upset us?

One of the things I like about these characters is they are very real in some ways. They're noble sometimes, aholes the next, nice to each other, then bitchy and obnoxious the next. Sera's a bit more to the latter but I think she reacts more out of fear and defensiveness than anything else. I am not sure myself about the line. Haven't done the ball bit so I am trying to get a sense of the context but I can easily, so far, imagine Sera saying something completely thoughtless and ill-considered given how they've written her.

I was trying to do the opposite. It's my experience that the most vocal people don't necessarily represent the views of an entire community. In fact, it's pretty much impossible to fully represent the views of any group of people whose only connection is one aspect of their being. Be that trans people, lesbians, Christians, whatever. If the group of people is larger than a few tens, then there is bound to be a spectrum of opinion.

Speaking of that Sera's problem again, I think it just cumulated - if she had more redeeming qualities, people would be more forgiving. But she has been written as she has been written, so you always can kick that lesbian out, the devs took care of that.

Well I see more redeeming features than you do, but then that's the way I tend to be. I see the best in people.

Well considering she operates in the capitol of Orlais even as a thief she has probably more luxary that other people. So without knowing it she has become pampered.

Also look at her room in Skyhold. That looks also pretty nice.

She certainly doesn't like to be out of the city! In that respect she reminds me of my wife who grew up in Mexico City. She can handle living in a small city like York, but she can't stand the idea of camping! :D

( stupid cursor)

-the arrow slams into the lower third of the apple, just grazing the top of your head-

Dammit woman!

Poodle's one lucky man.

I don't feel so lucky... Why didn't she commit...? I wanted her to commit!

Edit: To murder, not marriage, though I'm up for that too.

I hope you understand and can accept me as I've enjoyed my time here more than you can imagine.

We still love you, Dani, no matter what.

And if any of my comments offended, I have a tendency to do that accidentally. My heart is in the right place, but my use of vocabulary can go off track and instead look like I am against what I originally intended.

During the ball. Look at Misoretu9's posts on the last few pages. She's posted a screengrab of the subtitles more than once.

I noticed that too. She likes her luxuries, that's for sure. And everything she doesn't like is stupid. Anyone who disagrees with her is stupid. Etc., etc. (silk is stupid because she can't work with it  )

It's a crying shame we don't get to point out how much she sounds like the people she hates. But then she would probably just call us stupid too... I'd love to use the 'well, excuse me princess' line with her.
