While I don't think that they wrote Sera with the intention of pissing you off, I do think she's supposed to subvert the whole idea of what a BioWare companion in general and an elf in the DA universe in particular is supposed to be. It's sad that in doing so they caused you such upset but I applaud them for their bravery. They must have known that she'd be controversial.I didn't appreciate her beating that noble to death, not a healthy reaction at all, disturbing more than anything. I gave out to her over that, other times in the game she disapproved of my actions, bringing her to the Temple was a big mistake on my part. So bloody disrepectful, I know better now, and on top of what I found out at the temple and her reaction thereafter it killed my enthusiasm to romance her with an elf permanently. Ugh I didn't want this, I was looking forward to an elf/elf pairing for so long, f*cksake if Bioware wanted me to never play as an elf with her again they did a perfect job of it.

*puts on tinfoil hat* It's a conspiracy so we don't complain about being forced to play as a human in the next game! They make playing as anything else suck! *removes tinfoil hat*
Then again playing as a Qunari or Dwarf doesn't make that much difference in the over arching plot. I know one of the races gets a penalty right out of the gate for a certain quest, but I forget which. Was it the Qunari or the Elf? At the Winter Palace?
I have to say, Sera is basically every Internet troll rolled into a single persona. Quite fascinating, really.

And they absolutely should not have done so for a romance option, especially one trying to represent lesbians.
Your Inquisitor lies to her partner a lot.
No relationship survives total honesty. Little white lies are a bit like lubricant in a relationship: makes things chafe a lot less ![]()

Elf at least gets the penalty, not sure about the others.

Yes, but this is about a few things that are rather more serious. Especially since the relationship will survive the spider thing.
And they absolutely should not have done so for a romance option, especially one trying to represent lesbians.
That also doesn't sit well with me I gotta agree, our representation is so little as it is why they choose to make her as unlikable as they could it's disappointing.

Someone said she was basically 4Chan made flesh. There is some truth there. She doesn't seem to like horses either. (neither does Cassandra if I recall.) Horses are so pretty! I love animals and people who dislike them always make me a little wary.
Sera keeps trying to bait Vivienne and it never works, so she tries some more. There are also banters with Varric where she says 'I have more friends than you', 'you're not beter than me', etc. The girl is definitely insecure.
I think Blackwall nailed it when he said 'she doesn't know who she is or what she wants' (you can ask him about Sera). She's just... there. And going nowhere. A little piece of cork floating in a huge ocean, tossed around by the currents and the waves.

I don't think the character's sexual orientation/romance should be their focus point when writing a character.
"No don't make that character say that!",
"Uh... Why?"
"Because they are gay, duh!"

Spoiler
Personally, I'd say that nobody matters under the Qun.
Argh. I still sort of want to romance Sera in a sense, but I don't know if it's a good idea, given how screwed-up she is.
It's not just Sera, the game overal is bad for elves. It's like ME3 asari all over again..

It's not about sexual orientation, but that combined with being a romance option.

Sera is one of the worst aspects, though.

*slightly bitter* I guess SPEW was an appropriate title for an Elf/Elf romance after all. Count me amongst the disappointed. The first full and out lesbian companion in a DA game and she is frankly not all that fun. She certainly grates after a while.
Sure, you could argue her sexuality doesn't matter and doesn't color her character and she's not a stereotype, which are fair points, but when you compare Sera to Dorian... His personal quest resonates with a lot of people, myself included. Sure he's cocky but he's also smart and above all caring.
Sera is loud, crass and pretty selfish despite her claims to the contrary. Grand.

Our options are very limited in a sense sadly, my gamestyle ties me to just Sera or Jo. One can only hope she gets better with another race, elves are just a headache with her.

Shall we add Lukas to the blacklist now that Weekes is off of it?
Spoiler
Good point. Then again she seemed concerned if IB would try to "change" her.
Also Blackwall considers Sera as his best friend.

I still think my point stands though, romance/orientation shouldn't affect how the character is written, they shouldn't purposefully make her more 'likeable' (in your opinion) just so she is more palatable for those who want to romance her.

Nah. I can't say she's not believable. I've met enough people like her to know that. She's despicable, but believable.

I sharply disagree.

That's no excuse.

Pffft, take it to the writers then, I'm sure it will give them a good chuckle. "Yeah, sure, lets water our character down so you find her more attractive!"
That also doesn't sit well with me I gotta agree, our representation is so little as it is why they choose to make her as unlikable as they could it's disappointing.
Not everyone finds her unlikable. Quite the opposite in my case.

The sad thing is despite her faults and she has them in abundance I still like her to a degree, she has some attractive qualities but her negative ones seem to outweigh the good. It wasn't all that fun romancing her with an elf, it was an effort, didn't expect that and I'm just hoping my current human one will be better for me, took a knock with the first one.

Everyone seems incredibly entitled when it comes to romances these days. "Chose to make her unlike-able"... You couldn't make this stuff up!
