I didn't appreciate her beating that noble to death, not a healthy reaction at all, disturbing more than anything. I gave out to her over that, other times in the game she disapproved of my actions, bringing her to the Temple was a big mistake on my part. So bloody disrepectful, I know better now, and on top of what I found out at the temple and her reaction thereafter it killed my enthusiasm to romance her with an elf permanently. Ugh I didn't want this, I was looking forward to an elf/elf pairing for so long, f*cksake if Bioware wanted me to never play as an elf with her again they did a perfect job of it.

While I don't think that they wrote Sera with the intention of pissing you off, I do think she's supposed to subvert the whole idea of what a BioWare companion in general and an elf in the DA universe in particular is supposed to be. It's sad that in doing so they caused you such upset but I applaud them for their bravery. They must have known that she'd be controversial.

While I don't think that they wrote Sera with the intention of pissing you off, I do think she's supposed to subvert the whole idea of what a BioWare companion in general and an elf in the DA universe in particular is supposed to be. I just love the fact that Sera exists. Looks like though DAI has disappointed me with its gameplay and design direction, I can still have hope in the future DA games if just for the writing.

That also doesn't sit well with me I gotta agree, our representation is so little as it is why they choose to make her as unlikable as they could it's disappointing.

Someone said she was basically 4Chan made flesh. There is some truth there. She doesn't seem to like horses either. (neither does Cassandra if I recall.) Horses are so pretty! I love animals and people who dislike them always make me a little wary.

 

Sera keeps trying to bait Vivienne and it never works, so she tries some more. There are also banters with Varric where she says 'I have more friends than you', 'you're not beter than me', etc. The girl is definitely insecure.

 

I think Blackwall nailed it when he said 'she doesn't know who she is or what she wants' (you can ask him about Sera). She's just... there. And going nowhere. A little piece of cork floating in a huge ocean, tossed around by the currents and the waves.

Her fear in the Fade is 'the nothing'. Is it that she's afraid of the void? As in actual nothingness? Or she is afraid of being nothing? Part of her dislike for Elves is probably linked to that. Humans refer to themselves and each other by class, name, etc. They refer to Elves as 'Elves'. As if they were not people. As if they were nothing. Maybe that's why she's curious about the Qun too. Everyone matters there. Everyone is something there.

I don't think the character's sexual orientation/romance should be their focus point when writing a character.

His personal quest resonates with a lot of people, myself included. Sure he's cocky but he's also smart and above all caring.

The sad thing is despite her faults and she has them in abundance I still like her to a degree, she has some attractive qualities but her negative ones seem to outweigh the good. It wasn't all that fun romancing her with an elf, it was an effort, didn't expect that and I'm just hoping my current human one will be better for me, took a knock with the first one.
