Everyone seems incredibly entitled when it comes to romances these days. "Chose to make her unlike-able"... You couldn't make this stuff up!

Do you truly think they didn't know what they were doing? They gave an opportunity to kick her out at any time.

Good point. Then again she seemed concerned if IB would try to "change" her.

Also Blackwall considers Sera as his best friend.

She and Blackwall have what I liken to a daughter-father relationship. They barely agree on anything, yet somehow get along surprisingly well. Lots of great banter between those two.

Not everyone finds her unlikable.  Quite the opposite in my case.

+1. She's well liked as much as disliked.

Cheers man, may not be an issue for you but it still doesn't sit well with me that the first openly gay female in these games was written to be as polarizing as she could. Her sexuality isn't her defining characteristic but it's difficult to disconnect from that fact, she can also be kicked out of the Inquisition at anytime, she seems to be the only character if I recall that has that option throughout. That's not good, that's sad, almost like they foresaw that she would grate on people enough to warrant this option.

So if you want to call me entitled go ahead, I'm more disappointed than anything, I hoped for better with Sera.

They did? Do you mean the helping them reconcile thing? Didn't pick the option first time round myself, still chose Celene thou.

Yeah, my problem with Sera is also the fact that she can get kicked out anytime....

There were so many times i almost hit the "you don't fit in the inquisition" option by accident.

*slightly bitter* I guess SPEW was an appropriate title for an Elf/Elf romance after all. Count me amongst the disappointed. The first full and out lesbian companion in a DA game and she is frankly not all that fun. She certainly grates after a while.

Sure, you could argue her sexuality doesn't matter and doesn't color her character and she's not a stereotype, which are fair points, but when you compare Sera to Dorian... His personal quest resonates with a lot of people, myself included. Sure he's cocky but he's also smart and above all caring.

Sera is loud, crass and pretty selfish despite her claims to the contrary. Grand.

This is the problem I have. While I can certainly sympathise with the wish to have a less divisive character as a first lesbian romance, and as a straight man I don't have to suffer from lack of a varied representation in media, I am also of the strong opinion that sexuality has no bearing on whether someone is likeable or not. Realistically it's as likely that someone like Sera would be a lesbian (or straight or bi or whatever) as it is that some saintly charitable character who is understanding of all would be. Gah. It's a tough one.

By the way, count me as someone who still manages to like Sera despite her many flaws. I can quite see why some people don't, though.

That has nothing to do with anything. The problem was with making her a romance option.

Yes, because how dare couples end their relationships.

The cheek of it.

From what I gather, some have issues with Sera from a representation standpoint so romance isn't the problem.

I know you are unhappy she takes a romance spot though.

I would go into a rant about how it actually works, but that's no longer necessary because the problem has been solved.

Now to work on the problem of Sera.

It wouldn't be a representation problem if there was another lesbian companion who was romanceable.

I didn't appreciate her beating that noble to death, not a healthy reaction at all, disturbing more than anything. I gave out to her over that, other times in the game she disapproved of my actions, bringing her to the Temple was a big mistake on my part. So bloody disrepectful, I know better now, and on top of what I found out at the temple and her reaction thereafter it killed my enthusiasm to romance her with an elf permanently. Ugh I didn't want this, I was looking forward to an elf/elf pairing for so long, f*cksake if Bioware wanted me to never play as an elf with her again they did a perfect job of it.

Uh-oh. SPEW just lost it's master overlord...

*puts on tinfoil hat* It's a conspiracy so we don't complain about being forced to play as a human in the next game! They make playing as anything else suck! *removes tinfoil hat*

Then again playing as a Qunari or Dwarf doesn't make that much difference in the over arching plot. I know one of the races gets a penalty right out of the gate for a certain quest, but I forget which. Was it the Qunari or the Elf? At the Winter Palace?

Elf gets a penalty. Bloody stinkin' nobles look down on Elves. ONE OF THEM ENDED THE BLIGHT NEAR SINGLE-HANDEDLY, FOR CRYING OUT LOUD!

Personally, I'd say that nobody matters under the Qun.

Argh. I still sort of want to romance Sera in a sense, but I don't know if it's a good idea, given how screwed-up she is.

I agree. Bull even says that they would break her into submission in the Qun. She'd be some mindless husk, no more than a slave, as he put it.

Not everyone finds her unlikable.  Quite the opposite in my case.

I agree.

I can't help but feel strongly for her.

They fixed the Briala issue.

There was ever an issue with Mistress Bria? (Or whatever the servants called her, stupid translations and everything, especially if you wish to discuss it on English forums after.)

Who knows, maybe eventually it turns out that once again the relationship didn't work and they end it.

You know never know what could happen between this game and DA:4.

My intuition informed me of everything bad that happened in DAI and TME, but it's not pinging me here. So I'm not worried.

Okay that's fair enough, I can sympathise with disappointment and I'm sorry that she didn't click with yo. I disagree with how much it is being exaggerated though!
I will agree that it is odd that she can be booted at any time too, but I wouldn't be so quick to say that is evidence that they thought she would be unlikeable.
