And why would that be a problem? How does that affect you?

Ugh I'm contributing to the off-topic even more

I just would be at least a little saddened by the fact that so many people died what seemed like such a horrible death. Especially considering some children or babies could have died.

Guess I'm just overly sensitive to mass death?

That depends on what is meant by not caring.

That could range from anything from just being apolitical (as in not taking a side in the Mage/Templar conflict) to being a sociopath who is completely without empathy for the suffering of others. The latter would fall into most peoples' definition for evil, the former would not.

you can be pretty much insensitive on suffering of others but not harm anyone yourself is that mean you are evil because you don't care about others?

It's human of most to avert their gaze from the myriad instances they have zero control over.

Varric had a say in their fates.

And it was his choice to follow Inquisitors orders instead of going to save the village regardless. Need to take responsibility for your actions.

Argh the urge to be off-topic is too strong! *drowns in off-topicness*

Yes... but I do not see it happen. There is no sense in crying about it IRL, because I cannot stop the bombs from going off, the wars from starting, the murders from happening.

At least in that quest in DA:I, I could have stopped it. I could have prevented all of those villagers from dying, but I didn't. So it makes sense to be at least a little sad, considering you just condemned those innocents to die.

It may have been smarter to save the keep as opposed to a village, but that doesn't mean I cannot be a little saddened over the loss.

In da 2 he wouldn't care unless he had friend there... he wasn't moral compass.

That's not true, the only way to get Varic to ful rivalry is by either being a jerk to him personally or to threaten people. Varric has never wanted people to be harmed, which is also why he approves of supporting the templars in the end as a "keeping the peace" option.

Even so, nothing ever really dampened his spirits, but I imagine that Varric is somewhat hardy now, after all the **** he and Hawke went through in Kirkwall.

Hmm i was pri** only as i could in da 2 and he was in friendship instead rivaly (note that i wasn't mean for him) as far i didn't renember preaching about not doing something morally he was more for benefit like he disapproves when you won't give poison trader and neither he was sad when i was killing mages who was "innocent" (yeah right...) and as i said he was more practical so he should go for keep instead village...

Varric likes good jokes, smooth talkin' and a pat on the head every once in a while.

Very hard to rival unless you're meta gaming.

My only qualm with Sera so far is it sort of looks like she has a mullet and that is never okay.

Nah Varric's easy to rival if you're playing complete D-bag Hawke cause...well you're a complete d bag.

Otherwise yeah Varric's pretty much impossible to rival.

For some reason this reminded me of Kotor 2 Freedan Nadd tomb when you encounter dark side energy sources:

''Control your emotions''

''Bask in the power of the off-topic!''

''Leave thread''

Ok, I thought about it and you are right. I just realized that every person is just laid back about some particular things but cares about other things. Guess you can't JUST be laid back, unless you don't care about living at all.

Pro Slavery?

He doesn't view the Circle as Slavery if that was what you were inferring, if you mean the other more actual defined term within Thedas, wouldn't that relation end the moment Hawke sold Fenris?

I wasn't talking about the Chantry controlled Circles. I was talking about Hawke's support for slavery (when Fenris goes to confront Hadriana), and even keeping Orana as a slave.

Yes...a person who feels nothing when seeing a village full of innocent people put to the sword would be sociopathic, even if that person didn't cause the deaths of the people in question. Many sociopaths are functional and aren't mass murderers. In fact one study suggests that the rate of psycopathy among corporate CEOs is four times the rate for the general population. Sociopaths don't necessarily have to be serial killers. They all however are selfish people who lack empathy for others.

everyone is selfish and apathy doesn't mean that you are better than person who don't have it pretty much person who lack empathy may ignore you when person who have one can hurt you...

Oh noooo, I hope she has really long elf ears like in DA2. Those look so much better than the little leaf-ears of Origins!

1) Innocent people don't exist.

2) Sociopaths are also people.
