Well, I've now finished the game myself, and...
It was, for me, probably the weakest entry in the series. I'm glad I played it, because I found results that I needed to have happen and loved it. And there were wonderful moments in the game, certainly. But the game as a whole, just wasn't quite right for me. The central narrative is weak, the main villain has a lot of wasted potential, the open world design leaves you flailing around for content that's actually interesting, the companions are only patchily good and don't have nearly enough banter, the combat isn't an improvement, and the PC backgrounds aren't used any more than in Origins.
I felt the ending was anti-climatic, fell flat, Cory and that dragon didn't put up much of a fight. Loved the Temple of Mythal, the Orlesian Ball and Champions of the Just were highlights for me. Game had an abundance of elven lore and content which I adored also.
