I mean it more generally to be honest. Sera's beliefs and your characters don't connect, therefore the relationship is doomed.

And somehow, my atheist qunari doesn't...

It's not about Sera's own faith at all. It's about her virulent hatred for elven culture.

ok ... so ... after having played some more ... i realized i love her laugh. as weird as that may sound since it's not a particularly cute one, not in an obvious way anyway ( then again she's not really the most lovable person, not in the obvious, boring way - which is probably why i like her so much :)) )

after having played for 6-7 hours with my male rogue dual wielder ( cause .. that's always what i play, i know, i'm boring ) ... i started a whole new game with a female mage just so i can romance sera ...

to give you an idea of how big of a deal that is - i have never, in my entire life, played a female character by choice. mmo's, dragon age, skyrim ... never played a female character. and i never play mages either. again, unless the game forces me to. ( which in this case it kinda did since i found melee combat to be extremely non-intuitive and counter-productive and annoying since you have no mobility while attacking so i always ended up hitting air )

but for her ... after 20+ hours with a female mage ... totally worth it ... :)

edit: i'm playing an elf, they seem to be getting along really, really well ...

I didnt mention her being andrastian. Your core beliefs are more than faith and one of her core beliefs is a hate for elven culture.

Yes, that's one thing she needs to get past.

Why would one be? With things like "stepping on dead elves" and the like.

She's massively disrespectful of elven culture and makes no secret of it right from the start. If you're getting into a relationship as a Dalish believer, you have to know beforehand that it's going to be very rocky. I'd say you need to be roleplaying a seriously tolerant and forgiving person who for some reason finds her irresistibly attractive.

Personally, I always planned on my inquisitor Tressa being an elf who was disillusioned with Dalish isolationism and was looking for other perspectives on the world. It's why she jumped at the chance to spy on the conclave in the first place. She's very interested in the different cultural takes of all the characters, and while she doesn't approve of the crassness of Sera's comments about the Dalish and elven culture, she's not anywhere near as offended as a strong believer would be. She's coming to the opinion that probably no one has it right.

She finds Sera fun and fascinating, as she's never met an elf so far from elven culture before. She's willing to put up with the rudeness as she appreciates a different take on the world to all the other figures with their ties to various established orders and cultures, even if she doesn't always agree. She also appreciates the chance to be silly every once in a while. I'm actually really pleased with how much BioWare is allowing me to RP such a character.

And why should we respect this and consider her good somehow? Hatred, as has been said, is not a family value.

I mean, if you were a strict Christian and you dated someone who was offensive about that belief would you see it going anywhere?

Sera believes that ancient elveln culture is nonsense, and you attacked that.

Well, Sera saying ancient elven culture is nonsense is an attack too. Sera attacks Elven beliefs all the time.

You shouldnt respect her if you disagree. I personally agreed with her views on dalish and ancient elves.

I don't think they should have soft-racegated Sera.

That's how I roleplayed as Hecate, my Dalish Mage.

Well I think it was a good idea. It gives the character depth.

Having depth doesn't require you to be a complete ******.

Agreed 100%.

I won't be romancing her with an elf, but that is essentially how I see it when it comes to Sera's stance on her own culture.

I think that Xil (and Cat and Crim and others) have valid concerns. It does seem harsh to have the only lesbian character be one who is as Xil says "soft-race-gated". I wonder if part of it is because they added the opportunity to play as different races after they'd already created her character. It was originally going to be another human-only game, after all.

Either way, it's utter bullshit and Bioware should truly do better in the next game. Or offer chances to alleviate this with DLC, but only if it can kick in before the Arbor Wilds.
