Either way, it's utter bullshit and Bioware should truly do better in the next game. Or offer chances to alleviate this with DLC, but only if it can kick in before the Arbor Wilds.

this life man ... some complain ... others would basically give up on all the other characters just to have her be available for a romance with a male character.

I think that Xil (and Cat and Crim and others) have valid concerns. It does seem harsh to have the only lesbian character be one who is as Xil says "soft-race-gated". I wonder if part of it is because they added the opportunity to play as different races after they'd already created her character. It was originally going to be another human-only game, after all.

I'd hope that BioWare would want to revisit Sera later. Either in the next game or in some Expansion/DLC etc. Other characters have changed within this series (look at how different Leliana is from the first game). I'd like to see Sera grow up a bit or evolve. Maybe she'll never be a completely agreeable person (which would be realistic) but that her opinions get challenged and reshaped a bit might be a good thing.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: as this series evolves I'd like BioWare to give us more options to debate and reshape the way our companions think.

Almost surely. Her hatred of elven culture wouldn't have affected the relationship with a Human-only pc (though People might've still Not like this trait of her).
I'm honestly curious why they didn't rewrite her. I'm Not saying they should've done it, but Cassandra was rewritten, even if the reason was a change of writer. They probably had the time to do it i they wanted.

Just because.

I would just eat the sugar. You know this, right?

One thing you can be pretty certain of with BioWare is that whatever comes in future games, it will be different. There are some similarities between the companions from the three (and a half if you include Awakening) DA games so far, but they're all pretty distinct from one another.

DLC would be welcome of course. I'd really like to find out a bit more about her past and what made her the way she is, and maybe they could find a way of having her become more tolerant of the Dalish if she's in a relationship with one.

Doesn't mean they could not push back against your arguments or resist. But you or we should have more options to call them out a bit more.

Sera: "...walking on dead elves."

Inquisitor: "Hey Sera lighten up. You don't have to be an insensitive a-hole everyday ya know?"

In what sense 'better'? A character that doesn't hate a particular Group? The possibility of her beliefs changing through the game?

Debate, absolutely. Reshape, I disagree. I'm Not against characters changing their beliefs and opinions, but Not just because the PC says so.

I love Sera.

She's irreverent, she's a *****, she's rude but she's freaking funny. I also love how she slowly opens up over the length of the game. Her voice also reminds me a looooot of Maise Williams (actually looked it up to see if it was her) so that's another plus.

I only just got the Cookie scene and it was in my second playthrough. Strangely enough, she seemed to get along a lot more with my Human Noble than Mage Qunari . Well, it's a different relationship I guess. With my Qunari, she was really like a little sister to him. I had good enough approval with her but I was almost always chastising. There are shades of that with Human Noble but he's a lot less judgmental. They're more akin to buddies, I guess. It helped that her most contentious scene (the one were she ordinarily kills the noble) was able to be resolved relatively peacefully because my HN had the Nobility Knowledge perk. There were less rough spots as a result.

Her banter with Dorian, Cassandra, Bull and Blackwall did a lot to endear me to her too.

Granted, her attitude towards other elves can grate quite a bit. I found a couple of her exchanges with Solas funny but she can a bit too much in that regard.

That's not what I meant by "reshape" it meant less giving them an order to behave or change and more debating their ideas and influencing their opinion through discussion. I agree that ordering Sera to be a more tolerant elf would be less than satisfactory.

It'd have to be properly timed, of course, otherwise you'd get screwed over by the horrible Arbor Wilds dialogue before being able to fix things.

Not to mention that it should be able to be alleviated even if you're not romancing her with a Dalish, because it's obnoxious even if you romance her as another race.

Not torpedoing lesbian romance options by having one have a truncated and content-lacking, and with the other being a vicious bigot.

That would actually make sense, though with the one year delay, I'd think such issues would have been addressed accordingly.

the fact shes arse kinda is what draws me to her i get the issues with, its definatly jarring to a extent but thats her. Fenris generally hates magi and is a bit of a bigot, friend/rival, anders is a madman who does what he pleases. The companions of DA2 imo had far worse dispositions/beliefs individually over sera.

It could been worse

Does Josephine lack something else other then a sex scene?
While I think it'd have been better to give the players the choice on this matter, I don't really care about it, personally.
I'm really sorry for you and others that were disappointed by the Romance choices, and I hope you'll like the ones in the following games better, though I think it's just a random lottery. The male LI in DA2 had extemistic views, and while They have many fans there were People who were disappointed by the choices.

The Dalish romance works though, as a story if not necessarily as a happy love story. I'm not entirely happy with the my way or the high way impasse either but it is interesting.

------

I switched out Blackwall, Varric and Dorian for Sera, Cas and Viv and went and nachthexened that Ferelden Frostback from last night. Then returned to Skyhold and got the Wicked Grace sequence, it was cool.  Though Sera had no focus, so no Thousand Cuts.

She seems to have less dialogue overall, though the lack of a sex scene is problematic.

I really like Sera as a character, and also that BioWare tried to do something different and unexpected with her, but I equally can understand others' disappointment, especially as she's the first ever lesbian DA companion.

I think it was a terrible decision and wish they had used that characterization for someone who wasn't a romance option.

Could this have been some of the cut-content being re-added in? I think I heard they were giving us some additional scenes soon so maybe that will be part of it.

Because apparently there is a distinct lack of imagination.

Ah, yes, because making personal attacks on people who enjoy sex scenes is the height of civility.
