I'm not new here soooo....I don't open up cans of worms. I inspect them once they are opened. For science.
Is that a Portal reference? I still need to play Portal.

I picked one after I had locked in with Cass and she was like, "It's not you, it's... you... yeah"
That's letting us down surprisingly gently. ![]()
That's letting us down surprisingly gently.
It was. She actually appeared to care about my feelings. It was very sweet.
What I wrote - if there are more romance specific voice lines recorded by the male actor, then it wasn't accident, and that would profoundly suggest that Sera originally wasn't intended to be lesbian, but bisexual LI. Those banter lines could be recorded later, besides, if she was bisexual, drooling about women wouldn't be anything out of place you know.
So what if she was?
She's gay. That's all it matters. It's not like gay ladies are any different than straight or bi people.
I have a friend who got that bug and he romanced Blackwall with a man. Much better usage of the bug, if you ask me.
Did he have recorded lines during any romance-specific dialogue?

It's only a throw away line that honestly gives the impression that a gift for Sera was originally a friendship thing with romance dialogue before turning into a romance only thing more than her being written as Bi
Yes. It seems that someone's game bugged out and their male character could romance her. He speaks one line about not knowing what present to get her but the rest of the cutscene is quiet. That has led to speculation that maybe at one time she was conceived as bi, but equally it could be that the present quest wasn't always restricted to her romance.
That's... quite an interesting bug.
It wouldn't actually surprise me if she was conceived as a bi (or even straight) romance. We know it wouldn't be the first time BioWare has switched sexualities around mid-development.
If Merrill was suddenly turned into lesbian despite being originally intended to be bisexual, then if we had similar conversation, that "beautiful and clever" comment would be probably pointed out as awkward with male PC as well. You wouldn't know that she had also different alternative voice line recorded. Besides, I don't really recall a line that would sound awkward in Sera's case.
you never played portal? Its awsomeIs that a Portal reference? I still need to play Portal.

But she is a lesbian. The writers have stated that during the process of writing and recording at the same time, characters change quite a bit. They obviously felt Sera was better as a lesbian than a bisexual, so she is now a lesbian. They will not change her sexual preference now because it has already been established.

I've wanted too, just never got around to it.

To me it matters a lot because it would remind me the treatment we get in other forms of the media. It's enough that Sera has been made the most disposable and unlikable companion of them all, when all the lesbian representation in DA games we had was Branka the psycho lesbian trope. If her being a lesbian was just an afterthought, not something that was originally in her character arc, then that would be the last straw for me.

You'll have to ask Lukas for all these worries you have.
Also, she's not the only unlikable companion. This is subjective.

Have you written characters before? If so, you would know that sometimes a character just doesn't feel right because of the way they are written. So they change. During this process, they don't think "oh, lets make her a lesbian because we haven't got a lesbian character"; they think, "this character would really work better as a lesbian". That is no afterthought.

Her being 'disposable' has nothing to do with the fact that she's a lesbian. You are looking for a correlation where there isn't any.
In fact, I've noticed you bring her sexuality into a lot of issues with her character, and in many cases I fail to see any relevance.

But it seems devs themselves had that subjective impression, because as far as I know they mentioned she's "love or hate" character before release and gave us the option to kick her out at any time.

I'm a lesbian and the issue of lesbian representation is important to me. So of course I bring her sexuality up. What's weird in that?

Not because she is a lesbian though.

If that was really the case, more obvious explanation is that at some point someone concluded it would give them a lot of flak if only gay men had their own character.

What I'm saying is you seem to assume that her sexuality (i.e. the fact that she's a lesbian) is the primary reason behind whatever characterization flaws she has. I don't think it's that cut-and-dry.

Well, if she wasn't intended to be lesbian, then obviously that's not the case.

Pretty much every time someone says "For science", they're refering Portal.
GLaDOS was an awesome bad guy, gotta admit that.
Because I seem to only be lurking when we're not talking about controversial subjects, I'll first say that I do really enjoy Sera, and since starting a qunari character I'm starting to share her appreciation on that front. ![]()
Ahem.
That being said, I don't think what misoretu is saying is that unreasonable, when we were told that "fully gay" romanceable characters were preferable to the bi/pan/player/hawkesexuality we saw in DA2. I was skeptical, because I loved all four of the romance options, and I didn't think that they were lacking in any way because they didn't make definitive statements about what kind of genitals they preferred. So now, when we see Dorian's personal quest being at least partially related to his sexuality, and then we look at Sera, and how she avoids ANY discussion of her sexuality with a love interest, and how she is so hated by companions, and how easy it is to kick her out, compared to others...yeah. I understand the issue.
