There *could* be racial restrictions on some romances but we don't have details yet and we don't know if they apply to Sera at all.

I know, I just hope she wont be, or at least available to those races. I do not like the look of elven player characters, and the dwarves are too stocky to me to be a rogue.

And I never said you should shut up about it. I was saying we should discuss more than this one, single aspect to a complex character.

We still don't know that much about Sera to really get into discussing her character.

Even better, the 'organization' (or whatever FoRJ is) that she's a part of is probably the one we know the least about of any group in the game setting.

It’s on the streets of Orlais that the Inquisition finds Sera—or rather, she finds them.

Sera‘s an outsider, a rogue elf, who senior writer, Luke Kristjanson describes as a “troublemaker.” She brings to the Inquisition the perspective of the little people caught between powerful factions as the world spins out of control.

“Sera is brash and fun,” Kristjanson says. “She takes nothing seriously until it deserves to be taken seriously, and not much does. She’s only seen power from the underside, a view that gives her an almost complete lack of respect for the arrogance behind authority.”

The Inquisition is the fastest Sera's ever seen someone “in power” move. She's never had the chance to get in early and make sure those heading to the top stay humble. But there are also big questions that she needs to answer for herself—“hole in the sky” big—and the Inquisition seems like the place to do it.

“The phrase I keep going back to is ‘she's not about what's right, she's about what's rightnow’,” Kristjanson says. “Doing something for the ‘greater good’ makes her angry, because she thinks that's shorthand for ‘let's hurt people who don't deserve it because it's easier.’ But she's got her own reasons for helping too. Play nice with the vulnerable and you’ve always got friends, and friends are better than power.”

During 18 years at BioWare, Kristjanson has written many memorable characters for nearly all of BioWare’s franchises from Baldur’s Gate to Inquisition. It’s different every time, but he says it’s always fun.

“Sera is raw and genuine,” says Kristjanson. “I’ve written plenty of characters who were too clever for their own good. Sera hasn’t had to test her beliefs, so she brings a level of honest discovery that is cutting and refreshing. I had a lot of fun with her voice in particular. The actor nailed it day one. From the first voice test, she was Sera. Her laugh is great.”

With the fate of Thedas hanging in the balance and pressures mounting, Sera’s reckless abandon won’t win over every party member she fights alongside.

“Sera likes people who try (even if they fail), and is suspicious of people who are so powerful they don’t have to,” Kristjanson says. “There are people she loves, people she hates, and people she loves to hate. That draws a line, in and out of the party.”

In short, Sera speaks her mind.

“She makes no secret of her feelings,” Kristjanson says. “I don’t think she could if she tried.”

Sera is for female Inquisitor only? was planning female rogue Inquisitor first anyways, just need to decide Qunari/Vashoth or human.

I'm going Qunari for my first PC. I hope she makes a comment about climbing me.

I've tried several times now to discuss things about Sera, but they always get buried in the "She's a lesbian" discussion.

It's something new. We literally learned this a few days ago.

I was saying we should discuss more than this one, single aspect to a complex character.

Then do so. Your conversation is not be 'buried.'

Ergo, I request that you please take your concerns on the matter over to a separate thread...

Request denied.

What would be funny, beside that, is a scene (hopefully part of the romance scene) where Sera is walking away, then turns and just jumps the Female Inquisitor. She will be the second main DPS I will use, besides Vivienne.

Seems like it's impossible to speak of Sera without it turning into arguments about her sexuality, hopefully will get better when people stop taking it so personally. Sera being gay is NOT an attack on straight males despite what some guys have been saying recently

I just think it's an opportunity for me to be jealous of lesbian players (or rather, those who like Sera specifically). Not a reason to attack.

Jealous in a good way, I mean.

It's not just them. Blame lays on both sides for stirring up the pot.

Well being gay is a pretty important thing for gay men and women, especially when we're reminded we'll mostly always be the "other" in this world. We get few gay role models in life, so we're going to get attached to the few we have and that aspect of them.

If someone sees it as important and wants to talk about it, they can. Sera is the topic. She is gay. Talking about that aspect of her isn't derailing.

Sera is going to be my inquisitor's best friend. Hopefully! Her being more reactionary than revolutionary is something I'm starting to appreciate more in people, even though I like changes in society.  ^_^

Okay, Maria is taking bit too much flak for this.

I honestly don't see why it has to be a bother to discuss Sera's sexuality, if you don't want to simply don't quote Maria.

I'm thinking of using Sera, Cassandra, and Vivienne as my main group but don't know what class to pick up. In the demo, it looked like they were being healed during the battle, and Vivienne has a spirit tree, so I assume she can patch everyone up.

I think it's fair to assume that even in Thedas, where homosexuality isn't a big deal most of the time, there is a shared experience and even culture that lesbian and gay characters would have.  Discussing this in the thread for the only character so far who has been announced as lesbian isn't off topic.

Maria brought up the fact that lesbians often care a LOT about other women, and that may be reflected in how Sera is written.  That's a perfectly valid subject for this thread.

Well, if you want to discuss something from the blog...

Let's see, considering the 'raw and genuine' comment, how open do you think Sera will be about her affiliation with the FoRJ?  Does she have to trust the Inquisitor a great deal before spilling the beans on that?  I doubt we (the Inquisitor) will know about her ties to the group when we encounter her in Orlais.

So *clap hands* ladies (and men with finquisitors). How do we all think Sera will declare her affections. Bluntly I presume.

I thought they were drinking potions but I could be wrong.  Vivienne only had a few spells in her XBox spell wheel thingy and I didn't see a healing one but it would be strange if she didn't have access to any healing spells (she's not a blood mage).

I'm using the same group, but will have a mage Inquisitor.

I would have probably liked Sera anyway but the fact she is gay makes me like her more. Lgbt stuff is important to me not just because I fall under that banner but I spend a lot of time doing stuff with my choir for lgbt events and charities and such. So I just really like that BioWare decided to give us a fully gay party member and I hope to see more things like that in the future.

Anyways. After that party banter with Bull in the recent video, definitely want her in my party as often as possible soooo Varric might have to be shifted out :o

I hope one day Bioware just makes a rogue-ish centered game, and takes their cue from the popularity of characters like Aria, Jack, Varric, Isabela, and probably/hopefully Sera.

I connect with this side of their stories. The urban and secular. I'm also really fond of Act 1 in Da2 as well. It's just a immigrant story at that point.

From what I can tell about DAI, it seems the epic and "heroism" is being thrust on me right away. Like DAO. I can't even be a warrior in this game without being  touched with magic. I have a green, glowy fist and can close the Fade. Time to save the world.

I'll probably enjoy this game, but I wasn't looking forward to this.

What does this have to do with Sera? If I have any disappointment with her not being a romance option, it's only because I'm already being pushed further away from characters like that with the entire game itself. It'd would've nice to have an anchor to someone more "common". Where your romance interest isn't encouraging you to travel the "hero's path" once again.

Hopefully I articulated something here correctly. It's kind of a jumbled rant.

So can I take a leap here and say that the only ones that are not interested in discussion Sera as a lesbian are the straight males? maybe?

I just found highly hypocrite to police a user that likes to discuss romance and the implication of Sera sexuality on the game on a Bioware forum. Do you people see the irony on this? Every time I see a discussion about romances a lot of people do charts with sexuality, like almost all the time, with guesses and dislike and what not. The same goes for the character topic.

And by the way her preference for woman just got reveled, normal that people are discussing it, no?

Personally even being someone with a romantic interest on woman. I am not a fan of Sera design maybe I will change my mind in my first PT but I doubt it. Again it is great that they finally have a companion to cater to people with other preferences but after Sam from ME 3 I have some concerns about her character too, sure she being a elf is a crucial things but her sexuality is part of her too, and I bet elven culture as a lot more pressure that human culture on the procreation and family name front. People are different and differences should impact your life, even if they are accepted.

Well, I have a theory she may actually be Red Jenny, as in the leader of it. Long ago she was said to be the leader of her group but the group was never specified. Plus all our followers are people of importance. So I think she may be more forward about being part of the Friends of Red Jenny, but not her being the current Red Jenny.

"So I walked into my room at the tavern and it was filled with burning candles. There she was -- naked as a newborn, propped up against the pillows, and cradling a bottle of wine.

I said, 'Sera! I'm flattered but... but I'm not interested!'

Her mouth dropped open, she turned red as a beet, and she stammers, "Oh dear Maker, I thought this was Cassandra's room!" Then she hopped off the bed and scurried right on out into the hallway. Took the bottle of wine too."

Since she seems to be the 'blunt' type, then yeah, that's pretty likely.

I imagine her responses would be wildly different depending on what you as the PC pick in the dialogue wheel.

I've also encountered comments saying that they were interested in Sera's character, but are now put off by her being a lesbian.

Which as my earlier post said, really shouldn't matter to anyone?
