You've seen her already. ;)

But no harm in posting it again.

Spoiler

I started another qunari mage playthrough again.... on nightmare. :crying:

Good luck with that, Mage is kind of painful at the start. Not enough damage for nightmare. But at least your not playing a 2h warrior, they are by far the worst at nightmare at the start.

Currently, I'm playing a Dalish Archer and WOW, just wow. Its like night and day, so much easier than any other class. Tons of damage, stealth for the best escape/de-aggro in the game, and decent crowd control through explosive shot. Certainly Iron Bull loves it when you knock enemies down for his mighty blow.

Besides, as awesome as Qunari are, a Dalish feels like he has a stronger connection to the lore of this game since we learn so much new Elven lore.

I sorta perused through the discussions some pages back and wanted to comment regarding leaders and responsibility and how Sera ties in (or not).

I agree with the sentiment that once you are thrust into the spotlight of whatever movement, you stand a good chance at losing yourself or even your original purpose. And if you're smart, you keep people around that don't let your ego get bigger than the purpose. I don't agree that one should not do anything simply because the likelihood that some other org will surface and seize that power and may use it for ill repute. The manner in which a revolution is executed is always under scrutiny.

I don't imagine that my people fought for basic human freedoms with those thoughts in mind. I think Malcolm and Martin and Angela and whomever else that were thrust into the spotlight during those real struggles only knew they had to do SOMEthing. I think that's why Sera gains my respect above anything. She doesn't have to be known. She doesn't have to be popular. Just do what you can. The alternative, doing nothing, is unacceptable to her. It's why she joins the Inquisition to begin with...so that she is afforded the opportunity to do even more. That girl is smart. More smart than she is given credit for.

A very insightful post! Thanks for that. I've definitely missed the personality she brings to the inquisition since not recruiting her this playthrough,

Hey Alexia. *waves* I did miss bewb talk doe...that side of me never changes.

I was up in the wee hours of the morn, unable to sleep, playing multiplayer. I think I understand how to play it...it serves it's purpose for sleepless nights at least.

Her romance is super mushy, aww Sera. I got butterflies from the first flirt, what a dork/sweetie. But it's a fun mushy, not just mush.

Sera is also super smart, IMO, and also insecure about her intelligence. You can see her trailing off a lot when she's thinking about something, and I think its because she doesn't think it will be received well, and it's hard enough for her to process all this stuff, she doesn't need someone talking down to her on top of that.

Disagree that mages are hard on Nightmare at first, not having any problems with mine and I'm level 7 now. Haven't played any other classes on it, so maybe they are easier, but Mage is totally doable. I imagine the Haven fight is gonna be bad, but I think I'll get it.

Just bring Iron Bull along and you'll be fine. Bodyguard to keep all the meanies off ya.

There is video I saw out there of someone doing the Haven fight as a mage on "hard" and ace-ing it. It looked like they brought Solas and Solas was really buffed and the only part where it got really tough was where the boss showed up at the last trebuchet battle. But having another mage in your party might be the key there especially if the other one just keeps barrier on everyone.

I may do Solas, Blackwall, and either IB or Cass for it. Dual barrier + two characters with guard generating seems like the best bet. I'd like to use IB, I just need to find a good built for him, hrmmm.

I beat it on hard with Viv, Cass, and Dorian with my 2H and that wasn't too bad. Didn't have to reload or anything, although things got a bit hairy...mostly for my 2Her tho, the others were fine.

I think that's the way to go. I did it with Cass, Varric and Solas and got my butt handed to me first try but I think it was because I let some stupid suggestion on IGN get to me (yeah why take IGN seriously eh?) which advised to let your companions handle the boss while you crank the trebuchet. I do that but they all get wiped and then I am left facing the big Templar boss and his Templar buddies. It was a beat-down. So I reloaded and when he showed up I stopped with the stupid trebuchet and helped out.  Varric was a real weak link in that though. I should have used Sera I think for the rogue.

I cranked the trebuchet myself, but I'm on Casual, so that may be the difference.

I had either dual blades or a double headed axe,

Solas or Viv (Ice/Fire), Iron Bull, and Varric/Cole.

I think you can crank on casual if your companions can handle the aggro. Varric and Solas wouldn't do a great job of that though, and Cass would have to be speced just right to handle it....still some would skip through.

I had Blackwall, Dorian, and IB on my first casual run and cranked away, but they were better suited for it. Dorian did barriers and Blackwall/IB kept the enemies off my back. Wouldn't work on a harder difficulty though, or with every team, so it's pretty bad advice yes

I think Sera is a better rogue early game than Varric. It's just easier to get her better equipment, plus her AI keeps her away from enemies, while Varric is always running in. He does get better though, and would be fine early on if you make sure to always get the right Bianca upgrades and equip them.

The fight happens in waves, pretty much. Once all of the enemies are dead, you have enough time to crank the wheel all the way at least once before having to fight again.

Cool! I assumed that since IB isn't a good primary tank, that'd be tricky to pull off. Did you not get mobbed at the wheel?

I really need to play with him more, I am sure I'm underestimating his usefulness. Now that I've done a 2H run, maybe I'll be better at working with him. He just died a lot when I used him my first PT.

Right I observed that after my first run at it. Second time I did a little cranking and then stopped when the boss showed up. Killed his guys and him and then went back to the wheel. I just got confused by their advice which made it sound like you could just keep cranking through whole deal. Veeia suggests you can do that if you have the right party who have the right skills.

He has that whole scene in the tavern where he tells you what a great dragon hunter he is so I took him out to Crestwood last night with Dorian and Varric and we took down the dragon there. Funny thing is Bull was wiped before the end of the battle while the other two were still giving it all they had.  Him big dragon hunter, pfft!

Yeah, speak of your Nightmare run, Poodle.

I shall speak of mine, after.

Anyone knows when Elgar'nan's Bastion over in the Emerald Graves opens up?

Same!!! I don't even want to take him on a dragon fight with my Nightmare PT until I get everyone's specializations and they can kill it while he lays there, swooning all over the dragon the others are killing.
