Haha, yes, that's what I meant. Well, not about the depressive part, but the being a big lying sack of crap part. ;)

...still haven't heard that dang dog scene yet. I think my Adaar will tho, she's friendly with him.

People hate Blackwall? I mean other than Cap' and the puppy thing.

From what I've seen, it's his personal quest that caused many to turn off on him. It made him come across as a fake, which is understandably frustrating.

Eh? But didn't you romance him at one point, how'd you miss that?

If you romance him, you get another scene and don't get that one! And then he hated my other Quizzie's, lmao

I've never seen that site before but a quick look around gives me the impression they'd call that satire. They'd be wrong of course, but that's what it is supposed to be.

I can't even tell if it's supposed to be taking the p*iss out of the idiot trolls who complain or if it's supposed to be attacking Sera. It's that bad.

Jean Valjean just stole a loaf of bread though. He's not exactly on the same level as Blackwall.

I hear some had trouble friending Solas, was pretty pally with him on both playthroughs, actually got on pretty well with everyone, which is odd. Looking back at the companions of DAO/DA2 I had a few I really really disliked, in this I'm okay with everyone for the most part.

I can't help but wonder, were we supposed to know who Thom Rainier even is?

It sounded like a big deal, but I was like "Who?" the whole time.

Man for those who romanced him, that must have been really angsty.

are they ****** serious? Please tell me this isn't serious.

That isn't serious. It's trolling, complete unadulterated trolling. Do not acknowledge it.

There should have been a much bigger build up. Possibly, some Prison Officer tells you about Thom and that there is a possible lead on what happened to him. You then follow up the trail, like a detective until Blackwall leaves for his thing. That is much more dramatic.

No. There are clues in the game, you can know who he is before the reveal from Codex entries in the Exalted Plains, but I don't think they meant for his name to be familiar.

I wonder if Sera will have a problem with bearded dwarf females since she made that comment on Blackwall, but am guessing some fuzz is ok for her, not too manly

Sorta knew something was off about him in my first run, talking to him about the Wardens, man he fails on basics.

I thought it was delivered in a way that makes it sound like the player is assumed to know who Thom Rainier is.

I guess it makes sense there are some clues scattered about, though I'm pretty sure I finished his quest before I even set foot on the Plains.

I liked the idea, but Blackwall hadn't played enough of a role in the game for that plot arc to work for me. So it had this kind of awkward 'yeah my character should probably have some strong emotions about this' quality.

In my first run he started hating my Trix for some reason, and this run he's been best pals, and I'm not sure what I did that differently. One time they argue in Elvhen, this time it's all Leonardo talking to Ellen Paige in a coffee shop. Weird.

I thought they did a good job of it. It's surprising enough on first PT when you're listening to BW's idealized dialogue that you, as a person with probable reason to love the Wardens, might agree with. Then on second PT it all becomes very obvious.

If you investigate anything he says about the Wardens, it breaks down. He also says he was in Feraldan during the blight, and there is a letter in Leli's office that directly contradicts this.

If you go to the Exalted Plains, you can read a codex entry about Rainier and his former employer, and if you take him to the ball, he gets confronted by someone who says he looks "just like a guy who used to run around with [firmer employer, I forget his name"]

Edit: I'll agree if you weren't that attached to him, it probably felt awkward. Farming approval with him was so easy, it probably triggered for people who were like "what? I don't care"

Same. I used Cass as my go to warrior in my first run so I wasn't that invested in Blackwall and when the reveal happened I was surprised but not really angry.

I mean, I knew he wasn't a warden the second he started talking about the Wardens and one of his romance scenes makes it REALLY obvious but I also was pleasantly surprised by the actual reveal, because I had even grabbed the codex and heard the guy at the ball, and didn't put that together.

The whole lone Warden running around fighting crime without any apparent connection to the actual Wardens set off my suspicions. Though I figured it made about as much sense as the entire order disappearing from southern Thedas overnight.

That sounds like it could work well then, in the romance at least.

Well I broke down and started a Qunari archer (thought that might be a little odd) and am going to use Sera all the time. I found that Sera and Varric together usually worked out well for me. I guess I will see what all the fuss is about with Sera and a Qunari. Just arrived in Val Royeaux so I will be finding out soon.
