So completed the game (95 hours!) and romanced Sera.

 

Sera is childish, petulant and naive. But my Inquisitor adored her.

 

Loved the fact that Sera is in love with Quizzy and is not afraid to show it (and neither was my Quizzy!).

 

Liked that she wasn't this worldly character who was there to expand on the meaning of life, chantry etc etc.

 

Her confusion and trying to get her head around magic, the fade, gods etc was sweet.

 

Her notes are adorable!

 

Thought she was a great character. Really don't get the hatred.

 

Next play through will romance Josephine.

 

But third play through she's going to get her Qunari inquisitor!

Same. I actually fabricated a world state in the Keep where Hawke is the only surviving member of the family, and romanced Merrill plus killed her clan, messed up her efforts with the Eluvian... So, yeah. The fabricated state Hawke failed everyone, and feels she failed Merrill, too, and that Merrill will be better off without her.

Holy crap that is exactly the same as my current game and Rp.

I asked Dorian about slavery in Tevinter...his answer was the first time I side-eyed him. Aisha was pissed. He's sorta of Leli with it but at the same time not because he tries to justify it. Oh man that was personal. TOO personal.

I'm playing my qunari rogue and elf mage at the same time, I'm experimenting to see how much longer it takes my elf to romance Sera. My elf seems to be saying the wrong things already but I've still got my secret weapon named Harding ready to come to the rescue. Sera approves x 5

My reading of that Dorian scene is that it was initially written when the player character was human noble only, and they didn't realize how it doesn't really work with any other character.

 

Dorian is on the defensive, talking about his homeland, and wanting to see the best of it. A human noble acting self righteous and extremely judgy there would be somewhat hypocritical, because while there isn't slavery in the free marches, there are REALLY crappy things like alienages and refugee camps and places like Darktown in kirkwall, and Trev should probably shouldn't throw stones while living in a glass house, ya know, because they are also benefiting from their privilege and the exploitation of others. Obviously Tevinter is worse, but nobility in Free Marches and Fereldan and Orlais absolutely benefit from the subjugation of the lower classes. Like, it's still a privileged twit thing to say (and Dorian is one, that's his huge flaw...liek it's notable that he never even thought to ask a slave how their life was before he left Tevinter, because it was Just How Things Were), but I think...when viewed in that lens, it's less of a 'TEVINTER SLAVERY IS OK' and more of a "yeah it sucks but come on like you also suck, so dont get too high and mighty on me" 

 

When he's saying it to an elf or a dwarf or even a qunari tho, it's like. Bro?

The thing is, Dorian's description of slavery is actually historically accurate, for the part of the world that Tevinter is based on. This is the institution as it was practiced in Europe and the Middle East in antiquity and the Middle Ages, which wasn't quite the same as that in 19th century America (the usual reference point these days).
