I'll start: It's funny to see how many people think that the Blonde Elf Girl has a "Sue-vibe" just because she has everyone laughing in the only current picture of her.  I guess I don't get it.

I don't get it either. Some of these people spend too much time on TVtropes. Their minds are maelstroms of "Mary Sues," "Deus ex Machinas," MacGuffins," and "Plot Armour."

It's sad, really. Hopefully they can get help.

Reading the thread from earlier, apparently so.  I have no idea how they got that one from picture, although I've seen what appears to be ME references about a character that looked liked her.  I had no clue where this is coming from.  She made a bunch of the companions and who appears to be a rogue PC laugh, and now she's a sue?

Oh and apparently the leaked survey info is the other reason.  It just seems more than a little early to start tossing around the words "Mary Sue."

I think it started when someone joked about it, and then we got into the Tallis thing and then (I think) people misinterpreted what the context was beforehand.

One person made one joke calling her a Sue in a non serious manner and it spun out from there.

The internet is a cruel mistress with it's lack of tone and inflection.

Basically yeah, she was kidding about that.

but more on topic: I wonder if Sera, I wish I knew her real name, is going to have a tragic past like most of our Rogues or not?

I wish I knew her real name too.  The odds of her having at least a little bit of a tragic past is pretty decent, given BW's track record over the years.

Haven't we had enough of the "tragic pasts" I mean seriosuly, can we get one companion who is like

"I lived happily with my family until i came of age and then I became a grey warden/templar/etc... out of a sense of duty and righteousness"

It's kind of overused to me. It would be really nice to see one with a bright past, especially an Elf.

It would be nice, for a change.  I'm still wondering how someone that is likened to "Skittles and Tequila" works out.  Probably a lot of fun and a lot of laughs, but liable to give you a hangover in the morning.  :P

I'm reminded of the episode of Metalocalypse where all the members of Dethklok are discussing their various strained/abusive relationships with their fathers before the front-man, Nathan Explosion, chimes in with "I get along fine with my dad. My dad is f*cking awesome."

Everyone's got a tragic past; Sera's just sitting there with a big grin on her face, thinking of new ways to make Cassandra cringe.

That's pretty awesome!  I remember that episode of Metalocalypse.  I'd want her to be like Nathan Explosion and have a decent past.

My luck though...Sera could be like Toki: The nicest one in the bunch with the most screwed up past.

Is there any VA that comes to mind for her?

Tim Curry. Using the Nigel Thornberry voice.

I think that is my fault. JeffZero made a joke and I joked back and there was a Suesplosion.

Tragic origins is a pretty common trope in hero stories.

And it is time to have a subversion

Wow...I leave the thread for a day and all the Zen and peace vanishes. Nice job corralling it back onto topic Natashina.

All I know, is if there isn't a scene in a tavern where Sera makes some sort of amusing comment that offends Cass I could very well cry.

I couldn't agree more.  Someone in our party needs to have a less chaotic/violent past than most of the companions have had.

Thank the rest of the posters that were happy to move past that subject.  :)

Something that I wish they could have had in DA2 is a tavern scene.  Rather than hearing about the companions playing cards, I would have loved to been a fly on the wall while they did it.  I hope to see at least something like the tavern scene in that picture in DA:I.

It would be an interesting change of pace if Sera had well off (for elves anyway) loving parents and had no real tragedy in her life. Having someone normal...ish could be fun.

However we may run into Jacob or Carth territory if they are too bland

Or power-hungry blood mage Hawke. Don't remind me, they really dropped a ball with romance's criteria in DAII. After all, hate sex only goes that far.

maybe hawke is just THAT good in the sack?

I would love a party member who has lived a charmed life who suffers in some way after joining the party. A noble or something.

You know what would be really weird?  If both of her parents will still alive, relatively happy and even has siblings that she's on good terms with.  No rape, no Alienage purge, just a decent childhood.  There are ways to make her interesting without resorting to some of the awful levels of tragedy we've seen from our companions' pasts so far.

Ah, it's nice to dream.   :D

I have a feeling Vivienne may qualify.   Her life, especially by mage standards, was quite charmed.  She had the ear of the Empress of Orlais, was First Enchanter, and had more power than most nobles.  After Asunder, well...so much for that.    I think Sera and Varric are filling the role of "every man" in this adventure.

Merrill and... um, maybe Zevran? If we don't include his past.

As long as she's not too bland *cough* Jacob from Mass Effect *cough* For those of you who haven't played ME Jacob Taylor was a squad member in the second game who stuck out like a sour thumb because he was so normal it was painful.
