And as we've discussed in the BW thread (a very sera positive place, I'm happy to report
), there's a lot going on with her that requires more thought. She and BW are both pretty layered characters, but a lot of that is something you have to unpack or find in banters. If you don't take them out much (or have the banter bug) and don't talk to them and try to figure out what they are really saying, you won't get much from them. Sera is so flashy people don't see the depth, and Blackwall is not flashy at all, so people don't look as much for it. Shrug. I mean, that's fine for them, I won't tell people how to enjoy a videogame, but it does make it obnoxious to discuss them outside of their fan threads.

Yeah, she and Vivienne are the most hated characters in this poll.... makes me sad.
Sera even is 5th from all the 30 dragon age characters, jaysus. People really overeact with her a lot, don't they.
Lol getting this kinda reaction outta people is a writing success, being divisive or being a character you love to hate or just flat out dislike for such and such a reason/s isn't always bad thing. Many hate Viv, she's my main mage, she's fabulous darling. ![]()

Nah, I don't think its that. If they liked her, I think they'd find her accent "fun" or "original."
Honestly I think there are a ton of factors, but it boils down to the fact that she's younger and less mature and feels like a bratty little sister at times.
People hated Carver for that reason too. Like him, Sera doesn't kiss your ass but she's also not THE GREATEST while she does it...she's flawed and at times hypocritical and shortsighted , and people also tend to dislike the more human characters in these series in favor of the unquestioned bros or the big plot heavies.
See though, I'd like her more if I could understand her! If I could understand her, I wouldn't feel the need to get rid of her after she calls me stupid.

Disliking or confusion are cool, but when you don't bother to try and figure out a character before you think you have them all figured out, ya gonna get a side eye from me, that's all.

ALLL I'm sayin is, Solas may disapprove of Sera, but he would Greatly Disapprove of anyone whose reaction was "I DONT UNDERSTAND SO KILL IT WITH FIRE THR WORST", so I'll just step aside from the haters and let the Dread Wolf take them.

That is 100% fair. I waited until basically the finale before I said "Final straw, Sera! Get out of my castle!"

I wish Sera would stop saying my Inquisy is pretty and stuff when I'm trying to have a platonic playthrough with her in my current run. She's making it difficult to romance Josie at the mo, damn you Sera. ![]()

She's so awkward at comforting people though/has no idea. Doesn't even know what to say, even to a sad quizzy. And goes to say rude things instead ![]()
Also what Crimmy said... :/

Now I want to revise my MBTI typing for her in that one thread. I said ESFP, but this sounds more like ESTP.

Oh Sera. Still, shouldn't call the person who recruited you stupid for saying that maybe the Elves were right about certain things! She ranted at me. Grr.

You know, I'm looking around Sera's room right now and there are interesting things to see.
On the shelf: a dozen books, three tankards, three goblets, a bottle, a skull and a bone (femur it looks like).
On the floor: another dozen books, a chest, bolts of fabric, baskets, a few paintings and a large chest.
On the small table: three books, two bottles, a goblet, a bow and some playing cards.
Top of the shelf: a stuffed lizard of some kind.
On the window seat: a lute and a dozen cushions.
Hanging from the ceiling: Two flower pots and a bird cage with a candle in it. The bird cage has the Inquisition symbol underneath.
On the wall: Inquisition banner.
Sera has quite a few books, doesn't she? She reads them too according to her cabinet of wonders whose it was. (COWWIT)
The bolts of fabric? Same color and pattern as her curtains and cushions. She sews according to her COWWIT, so presumably she made them herself.
She has trouble handling silk. Her solution? Get a book to sew better. For all she says she hates learning lessons, she doesn't mind them if it helps her achieve what she wants. Ironically, that makes her goal oriented. If she doesn't need to know something, she doesn't want to know. So the trick to get her to learn something is to show her the benefit of it. Varric figured this out. One of their banters shows that he helped her on a heist, and she was happy with the result. (twice the take)
She's such an interesting little puzzle. Oh, apparently Tevinter ale/wine is p*ss weak. ![]()

It's more apparent if you romance her, she really lets her vulnerability show when you question her on her line of thinking. I think one line she said something like I know you'll try to explain it and I still won't get it, I'm stupid or something. *needed a hug interrupt*
