Both are driven and ambitious.

Take pride in their abilities/accomplishments (which is why Vivienne wasn't content with just being a 'glorified' court jester for Celene).

A taste for the finer things in life

Prefer form to function (combat heels anyone?)

These are off the top of my head.  They won't be the exact same character, of course.

Good thing is Viv doesn't strike me as overly sexualized like Miranda was.

*snip*

Seen this scene a lot since E3, but does anyone have any clue as to where it is?

Looks like a savannah of sorts.

No clue, but I doubt it's the same area from the demo.

EDIT: Most likely the Exalted Plains as mentioned above.

Why...? Not sure I understand what's innately female about social maneuvering, ballrooms, and elegance.

She kinda reminds me of Olivia Pope from Scandal.

I don't think that the LIs were designed around what X would like.

This isn't Mass Effect.

Players should always be part of their equation. If they think the stories in themselves is what sells an idea, they've got it wrong. People bring themselves into these plots just as much (or if not themselves, their preferred character concept).

To put it more nicely though, it's her whole archetype that's off to me.

Ugh. I'll just say that I'll be pissed that that's the main idea of what males like. It's not even trying.

She might as well be an alien from another planet.

But then, I'm just an unremarkable punk from Texas, who's never even owned a suit. :D

As someone who did romance an alien from another planet in Mass Effect, I resent that (kidding.)

Seriously though, we don't really know what she's like yet other than those basic bullet points that were mentioned before.

So I really hope it won't be anything like that, no flirting with guys or "accidental" shots in underwear for male characters' enjoyment, etc.

Yes PLS.

I don't think it is...they've always provided various options for males to romance.

If you don't like someone like Miranda, there was Jack/Tali.  Vivienne won't be the only male option (even if she is one).

That's true. It's just becoming increasingly limited here.

Here's looking forward to Cassandra. She's my second choice (the first being if there had been a Rogueish character like Sera).

I am just saying. The characters came first, then the romances. Besides, leader of leaders and a bunch of people that have fought their way to the top and are among the most powerful people in nations don't strike me as the types to give a flying nug behind how attractive people might find them.

Just saying. I find their appearances all seem to match up with their characterizations thus far and I am glad that none of that seems to be sacrificed in the light of making them sexier. I had enough of that in Mass Effect, thank you very much.

Besides, if I was a guy, I would think that Cassandra would be more than enough for me to handle.

I kinda do. The need for perfection and control. The need for controling others (I love Miri, don't take me wrong). I see some of the vibes there.

Also, the all white. I don't see Vivi having those moments of humanizing self doubt about HERSELF (maybe with other things, but never herself)...

I can dig it.

There's the some attributes that I'd say crosses over but I could say that about other characters too, so yeah I don't them as being very closely aligned.

I'm not saying they aren't cool characters in their own right. They all seem to be. That's different than finding someone attractive though.

edit: More specifically, I don't see any of the possible LIs to be down to earth or "fun" in any way. For women, you have those options, I think.

Well just keep in mind, whether Viv or Cass are straight or bi (assuming Viv is even a romance), both of them will still be available to straight male characters. If Cassandra is also not to your liking, well then better luck next time I guess? Maybe Scribbles will be a non companion option as well.

Maybe Scribbles will be the light hearted romance you want.

I just don't think that they wrote the characters and made sure they could tick off various romance tropes with their characterization.

If all the women are a bit too serious for you... I am sorry but maybe try rolling a Femquizzy and romancing Sera?

I usually do this. I have my first game and then I have my "I wanna see everything else" games. Over and Over.

It's not a big deal really. I'm just venting before release. I'm sure I'll enjoy the game even without any romance. That's what my Warden was, and what I did with a female Hawke. I was just looking forward to trying that feature again. In a way that I could connect with.

The thing that makes me laugh the most about the lesbian Sera thing is that we knew NOTHING about her. We only heard her voice partially a few days ago. Guys who are complaining about her sexuality are basing their arguments on the fact they thought she was hot and wanted to romance her, and now they can’t.

I'm not accusing you of this StreetMagic, I just think the irony is funny.

It's the Exalted plains. The exact location was shown when it was revealed.

I always thought she was cool with what little we knew. But as I've said, the appeal mostly lies in sensing Archetypes. Not specifics. You can glance at a character and get a general idea of their type. But not know a lot of details.

It doesn't have to be a complaint about Sera btw. I would say Isabela and Varric and Zev all fall under the same archetype. I like Rogues. I like people detached from all the serious religious crap in DA as well.

We'll there was the art that suggested she was a joker. There seemed to be plenty of women too interested in romancing her before too based just on looks and elvish ness and vague joker notions.

That's true, but characters can also sometimes surprise you.

I didn't think I would like Leliana very much but I enjoyed her quite a bit and I'm glad she's still playing a big role in these games.

A lot of people (and by people I mean **** heads) have expressed they are uninterested for racist reasons, and to that I have absolutely zero sympathy.

If it's for other actual reasons, like you don't get along with her personality that is different, but we don't even know her personality just yet. That scathing sample letter she wrote to that diplomat was pretty awesome, so I'm definitely on board for getting to know her better.

vivian is beautiful.  very beautiful for a non real person.  she looks way too much like a friend of mine for me to romance in game though.  it would be too weird.

Exactly. The new Cass profile indicates that she has a sense of humor. She might be all happy and flirtatious with guys she likes. Who knows? Maybe she can tone it down a notch when she isn't interrogating someone. =)

By the way, I am still waiting for my Carth/Atton 2.0 Bioware romance. Alistair was close, but he would get butt hurt sometimes when I tried to joke about his Gammeroan Man Feelings. Give me a man that I can call a scruffy nerf herder and he will respond by calling me a committee...

"Oh, good... it was distracting... for the droids I mean."

From everything I hear, I like her character: Outspoken, blunt, most likely funny, not stuck up, pragmatic ("what's to do now!"), not wrapped up in any ideological wars, caring for people without power, anti-political, open for change, sassy.
Basicly, everything Vivienne is not. So while I think Vivienne is prettier, and more useful in combat, personality-wise, I think most of my inquisitors will like Sera and hate Vivienne.
Which doesn't make Vivienne bad. My Inquisitors may hate her, but she can still be very well written.

Just to say, I'm still open to surprises. Don't get me wrong. I don't even want to look at too much pre-release material as it is. I'd rather stumble through my first playthrough.

But I do know what kind of women I'm attracted to. That doesn't change much. And at first glance, I don't think they covered enough bases for the different types of guys out there.

Anyways, Anyone want to guess How long till people start coming up with ideas for Sera-related fanfics?
