Whatever abomination that wormed its way into DA.
Leliana's voice actress is French, so at least hers is genuine.

Again, Leliana didn't pierce my tympans though I could've done without it, however many of the Orlesians NPCs are simply awful. The only french accent I liked in gaming is SR4; it's awful, but it's awfully funny.
But now I'm really derailing this thread,if Sera doesn't have any thick accent (be it french or whatever, I'm good).
Is Sera Orlesian?
If so I might be a bit disappointed if she has a British accent. Vivienne has a British accent as well, despite being Orlesian.
I hope the French aspect of the Orlesians wasn't dropped.
I wouldn't expect the poor/city elves in Orlais to sound the same as the upper class. I would expect an elf like Briala to have the French Orlesian accent though.
I'm not sure about Vivienne. It's possible she's not originally from Orlais and was moved there from a Circle in another country. Maybe Ferelden...she kept the accent but dropped the fashion ![]()
I'm thinking it's more of a reaction to the general beauty of the environment. The bit about her being "about what's right now." Reactionary. I imagine that means everything, good or bad.Speaking of which, Sera seems pretty fond of the Exalted Plains, if that's where it is. Contemplative, running her hands through the field.
We can assume she isn't anything like Zevran, Tallis, or Fenris. A city elf, but one similar to the Dalish.
Personally, I'd hope that the personal quests for companions will not be the definite loyalty quests; that rather their loyalty is steered by the choices made in the larger game.maybe tis part of a loyalty quest?
I'm sure I read somewhere that pretty much all the people with Orlesian accents in the games were performed by original French-speaking actors. The problem appeared when it was a non-Parisian French accent, or a Canadian French accent; because they're practically never used in mainstream media, they weren't as much recognised as true French accents. At least that was some of the complaints. That the accents can be annoying is another discussion entirely.Leliana's voice actress is French, so at least hers is genuine.

How do you know Vivienne has a British accent? Has it been mentioned somewhere? Would be interesting if true.
I wouldn't rely 100% on what you hear in the trailers. Anything could be placeholder and not final.
You can hear her talking in the demo's

In what small videos exist she has spoken before and it sounded British.
Edit: Definitely British.

Thanks for the link. I remember that demo. Though, it was pre-alpha footage so it may not be final. But what do I know? ![]()
It would still be interesting if that turns out to be her final accent, being Orlesian and all. Maybe she's not so Orlesian, after all.
Isn't bioware in Canada? Aren't there French Canadians like Celine Dion they can hire?
BWHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
No.
Weird seeing my crappy art here

Aw, it's not crappy...I think it's pretty good ![]()

I don't think she's a voice actress.

She's done some voice work before, but nothing major.
I heard she has a role in this year's Muppets Most Wanted.

That's like assuming Crocodile Dundee, Steve Irwin, or Hugh Jackman's normal speaking voice could work as an English king. Speaking the same LANGUAGE doesn't mean the same accent.

I'm suspecting that she originates from Rivain, hence the lack of Orlesian accent.Isabela who was also Rivaini also had a British accent if I'm not mistaken.

I hope Bioware hires legitimate French actors and doesn't just give the Orlesians we meet Monty Python accents.

Actually, the French accents in "the Holy Grail" are pretty good. One thing I don't understand is why they still ask Kath Soucie (Marjolaine in DAO) to do French accents. I don't know what the heck it sounds like, but it doesn't sound French. It sounds weird.
For those who played Assassin's Creed: Black Flag, you can hear some Canadian French accents (Quebec) in both English and French in the Abstergo sections (no spoilers, it's the start of the game). 100% genuine. It's very different from the European French.

The reason they do that is to minimize the number of voice actors they need- most Dragon Age voice actors voice multiple characters, and being able to do voices (even if poorly) is preferable to hearing Jowan's voice coming from EVERY OTHER NPC.
Seen this scene a lot since E3, but does anyone have any clue as to where it is?
That's the body double for Russell Crowe.

Maybe near the Dales?

So is Riordan's.
Not coincidentally, Leliana and Riordan also happen to have the least cartoonish and the best-sounding French accents in the series.
I think the problem with Orlesian accents is the non-French actors turning the ham factor up to over 9000.
I think Duke Prosper's voice actor is French too.
Philippe Smolikowski, which is an incredibly french-sounding name. ![]()
I find the accent of the de launcet's quite amusing. Terrible, but amusingly so.
