She doesn't seem the type. Power play maybe, but not into accessories.

"I cannot move my legs."

She really doesn't seem as...Antivan as other Antivans.

Oh I don't know. She's blatantly staring at the package. Seems a pretty Antivan thing to do if Zevran is any indication.

I did that already... :D I'm not sure how Leliana would react to her friend being called a bully though... She would probably get mad... I need to do that 'the inner circle gets therapy' fic I was thinking about. A mix of drama and comedy. That would do nicely.

I if the inquisitor makes Josie cry, Leli will make the inquisitor bleed. Tread with care ;)

Leave Josie alone you horrible feline.

I only do it because I love her! I'll make it up to her by getting her lots of fancy little tea cakes!

Jesus on a pogostick.

So in nutshell, lesbians shouldn't be flawed, they should be perfect!11

Ugh. A+ Gaider response here. I hate it when some lesbians speak for all lesbians like calm down, nobody made you a lesbian president.

I'd choose flawed, complicated characters over boring, stable ones, anytime. Gimme more of that.

Didn't see anyone saying she should be perfect, but such things like transphobia (and he-she comment is transphobic and it was even more highlighted in the context it was spoken, grouped together with really negative things) and lack of any consideration about your lover's feelings (Dalish after Mythaal quest) don't make "complicated character", but off-putting one. And IIRC, you liked syllogi's comment which pointed out serious problems with the depiction of Sera's lesbianism - something that very likely came from writer's lack of understanding of situation of lesbians and something Gaider is very dismissive about in his response, which stays in contradiction with his earlier words during a panel:

[Gaider] urges those who choose to design minority characters to consider their roles and purpose in the game. Additionally, he suggests those of privilege to seek out possible groups affected by design choices and talk to them, or if security requires it not leave the office, to hire diversely. Their unique viewpoints, he said, should be considered “assets,” not “affirmative action.”

And like veera noticed, Gaider on his Tumblr only picks up stupid questions that would be easy to laugh at, but isn't interested in any substantial discussion.

I've seen enough of Gaider that I could've written an approximation of those Tumblr posts for him, and I do agree that character should be pretty much independent of sexuality. I certainly do agree that Sera is well written and you all know that I love her.

That said, whe have an n=1 for both lesbian and black companion characters in all DA games and they are two of the most contentious in the series. Maybe that reflects more on society judging women more harshly for their faults, given the flaws that some of the male characters have. I'm not sure, but I don't think that it's an issue that can be ignored entirely. It's also not something that can be addressed until we have more DA games with more lesbian and black characters. Get on it, guys! ;)

Look at you all, finishing the war like it's nothing. Even without me.

She doesn't really have the whole nickname thing like Varric does, but if she chooses a nickname other than Inky, there's a particular meaning behind it, but she won't actually say what it is. Cole may reveal this in banter though. It seems like the nicknames "Buckles" and "Shiny" have sexual meanings behind them.

Oh, do they now...? Hmm. I'll have to hear the banter again.

I figure if you increase representation then things should sort of take care of themselves eventually, because you're just upping the chances people will get it right, and balancing out the flaws with strengths in other characters. It's sort of like how educating women fixes a bunch of issues.

Don't worry, there'll be plenty more for the next score of pages.

None other character did he-she comment among the others so I don't think that explanation works here.

And Bioware had other lesbian character. Traynor, who was mainly a sexual tease for male Shepard, as they were more interested in developing shots on her breats and butt in bikini during conversations with male PC, making the lesbian sexually tease the man ("Commander, eyes up here" - but for some reason she kept gettting semi-naked around him), than developing her lesbian romance arc (as her romance scenes were shorter than their non-romance equivalents, what's interesting, less steamy with the exception of really cringeworthy shower sex scene and lacked content every other romance had).

The comment wasn't Sera's opinions. Users on tumblr confirmed it. Sera was repreating what the nobles were saying. Those weren't her words.

Also lol @ "lack of any consideration about your lover's feelings". Sera didn't want to continue a relationship with an elf who believes in other "gods", end of story. It's pretty normal irl. Relationships tend to break when religion is in the middle and Sera was saving the spot for someone else, even if she still loved her.

It's her principle, accept it. Just like everyone else has principles in relationships.

It's like broken casettes with repreating the same things over and over and over. Jesus.

Besides, it's not like i don't see that Sera is problematic since she isn't perfect. Every character is problematic, and the fact that Sera is a lesbian shouldn't make her any different from others. She's amazing, even with her flaws. And that's all i'm saying, im so tired of arguing the same thing.

I specifically said DA, as ME is not Gaider's domain. That said, if we're bringing ME into it, you might bring in Jacob Taylor as an example to back up Gaider's point. There's what happens if you make a minority character without major flaws. Dullness ensues...

Ah! She's being dismissive of the bitchy gossip she's overhearing! That makes a lot of sense, actually.

I think Taylor's issue wasn't flawlessness but that he didn't have anything going for him. He was a nice guy who served in a kind of secret ops unit and had a troubled relationship with his father. The middle bit might be cool but it is never touched on and a stock standard BioWare companion trait at this point.

Not every character was straight up stated by devs that they're "love or hate" character, or as Gaider pretty much further confirmed, that they knew they made her very unlikable for large segment of people. She's the only 'monosexual' romanceable character who's completely unimportant to the story and could be kicked out at any time. The problems with her design reach far further than any other character's. And like you actually confirmed by giving a like to syllogi's comment, the fact she's a lesbian actually should make her somewhat different from a straight character. Saying something different is like act of those people who "don't see race".

And as for Sera's transphobic remark, elaborate please because I have no idea what's that supposed to mean.

Link is above you.

And yes she is the only one who can be kicked out, this bothers me greatly as i've said in many threads already.

I'm talking about her as a person and her actions. Also as for syllogi's comment i agreed with something else, and that's why i liked her post. Not for the reason you said (it's hilarious how you keep repreating it) She has said other things which i agreed.

Jacob was pretty bland... had no flaws, didn't had something that made him a good character or bad. With him i felt he was just.... there. Has daddy problems? Good, went to solve them and... that was it.

Then again only few of the squadmates were good in ME, imo.

Jacob's romance and how he treats FemShep also turned off a LOT of players (especially women) from what I remember.

But regardless, I somehow find it hard to digest that he was written by the same person who wrote Sera. If anything, that actually says something about Luke's writing skills. (Spoiler: He's pretty damn good.)
