There isn't anything wrong with that. Signing up to be a soldier, that's not something to be done lightly. The fact you became scared is just your subconscious saying "Don't do this." That's not cowardice, cowardice would be signing up, getting over there and realising you aren't cut out for it. You're over there, a burden to your squadron, because you are afraid to take the risks necessary to survive. It's better for everyone to just not join up if even one seed of doubt gets planted. That there, I think, is an act of bravery in itself.

I agree with that, but the phrase generally isn't used for that and more by the younger, more immature generation. I'm all for broadening my horizons, I even plan on travelling extensively when I finish at Uni. Got to do it before I settle down.
