Interesting that both Cat and Orchid ended up getting angry and "coming out" by shouting at your parents. Not that I'd recommend that as a course of action but maybe that release of emotion helped to reinforce the reality of the situation to your parents...

I was also thinking about what Danielle said about doing what she needed to do to survive, and I don't think that makes it not brave. Getting back to that comparison between different types of bravery, I'm pretty sure that my granddad would never have joined the army were it not for World War 2, but he ended up landing at D-Day. He felt he was doing what he had to do to protect his country and way of life, but few would say that it was not brave. Necessity and bravery aren't mutually exclusive.

No other source of sweetness in the house/apartment? Honey? Molasses?

Or you could try a savory porridge. It's quite tasty with tomato sauce.

I've got donuts.

Edit: Has anyone ever blended a jam donut and drank the contents?

There's a difference between being brave and being reckless. It's brave to face something scary/difficult. It's reckless to do so unprepared for the inevitable consequences. Not provoking a confrontation is not cowardice when you are well aware that you could not deal with the fallout for XYZ reason. That's being smart.

Oh exactly. I'm definitely not suggesting that Artemis get mad and shout at her family with no back-up plan. What she's doing seems very sensible.

I'll have to give it a try tomorrow when I get some more. I cannot force myself to waste these precious few I have left. But I do want to try it. I bet it will taste absolutely divine!  :P

Orchid and Cat thank you for sharing your stories and although there were painful times it's wonderful to see the acceptance, it makes me feel warm inside.

I so much wish I wasn't at work right now and could say more.

Edit: I'm out of likes. *sigh*

I'm yet to run out of likes. Today seems like a likely day for that to happen...

This has certainly been an interesting catch-up and I admire those who shared such personal stories like this. I can certainly relate but I could never return the favour myself, makes me far too uncomfortable, could never share something so personal like all you have on a public forum. I have my line but I respect those who can, it can help others and that is always commendable.

Sad stories. Well, hopefully all is better now, yes?

Anyway, to continue my little thing nobody's probably interested in:

1943. Stalingrad. Operation Gunnerside. Kursk.

Have something related to Gunnerside.

Eh, i didn't felt it was too personal what I shared. It was also to show that many ppl may react differently than you expected.

It's not like we ask others to share their stories. :P

I never really knew what to say in bad times.

It's a flaw I'm not proud of.

And maybe the odd bit of optimism mixed it?

I mean, it always gets better over time, right?

I hope so. If it doesn't...

It is better, in most cases, isn't it?

Elves are fun! I'm working on my first elf run right now and am continually surprised by well done it is.

I have the same flaw. I never know what to say when someone is opening up to me, it's only on the internet where I can put what I'm thinking down onto words. In person, I must look like I don't care about other peoples problems. Not a very nice feeling.
