You know, Poodle, now you got me curious.

Who would you expect a fan fic from, out of this thread?

Sigh, she should have been a bi character. It makes no sense for her to be restricted to being a lesbian, given her background has no real need to be purely homosexual.

Her background doesn't *need* her to be bi either, or an elf, or blonde, or an archer, or Ferelden, or tall, or scared of magic, or a Jenny, or any of the things that she actually is.

You'll trade away your fortune to help smuggle him out of the country, or you'll train him to be a ninja-jedi?

Maybe he'll take me high into the mountains, train me to a be a ninja-superhero and then come back as my enemy only for me to defeat him in a fight on board the monorail that my super-rich parents built....

Well, I was just going to search for you, find you and kill you but okay. I suppose I could do some Uncle culling out in the middle of nowhere with a few of my co-workers only for me to fight you with some broken glass bottles and a knife.

So you are saying I am bisexual, because my background defined who I was going to be? I'm bisexual because I am bisexual. The same goes for Sera. Despite what you would believe, we don't choose our orientation.

Well as I said I am pleased with it. I'll leave it up to everyone else to decide whether it is marvellous and/or superior to fireworks.

I'm saving a like for you just in case, then. :)

...seriously? <_<

Background doesn't define one's sexuality. You don't choose to be of a certain orientation, you know that, right? It's not like you get up one day and decide "well, from now on I'm going to be straight". It doesn't work like that. If it did work like that then based on my background I should be the straightest girl the world has ever seen, and utterly religious to boot: guess what, I'm neither.

And even if we take it from a storytelling perspective: none of the characters need to be straight/gay/bi/other either. They don't need to have a sexuality or be available to the player at all.

The Devs decided to have it this way and that's it. There's no 'making sense' with this. It's just the way it is.

That's like saying I don't need to be straight.

Necessary or not I think Sera's sexuality is something that works. It makes sense, it grounds her character with some kind of internal logic.

...That made sense in my head.

1990 was a cool year.

More seriously... yeah.  Good luck with that opinion there.  Did you pack a helmet?

Wow.  Josie looks really frazzled there.

And that's all I'm going to say on the matter :)

Well The communist bloc was collapsing, Nelson Mandela was freed... It was quite an optimistic year to be alive, at least from a liberal Western perspective...

And thus endeth my emerald crusader playthrough and the sweeter-than-pie Josie romance (seriously, even they even snuck away from the party in the cutest fashion possible) and Sera has found a family in the inquisition.
But.
Once again, I had the 'I don't believe in gods' as the only special option when meeting coryphy-t*ts for the final time. All the dialogue choices I made regarding faith to that point, when no pro-elven choices were offered, were mainly against chantry as an organisation or generally against me being a herald of anything. So bioware logic is that you either see divine providence in everything or you are not a believer in anything. *sigh* Yeah....that's exactly how that works    You know, I remember a time when Bioware writing was actually good. The last 3 games it's only been the characters that have had decent writing :(

Much as I love player agency, lately I've been wondering how realistic it is to expect that in the open ended package RPGs typically promise, and how powerful it can be anyway.

Dalish religion does tie straight into DAI's core themes though, so it's kind of weird for it not to be there suddenly.

That I don't know.

But I do know that the maximum approval limit is 125. (Dis)Approves gives/loses 5 and greatly (dis)approves gives/loses 20.

Where's that information coming from?

The game was still written through an Andrastian human lens so it's not all that surprising.  This is extra disconcerting at times for an elven playthrough since there's a good bit of their lore in the game (while not so much for a dwarf/qunari).  The elf is also from a culture that revolves around revering this ancient lore (Dalish) while this doesn't apply to the other non-humans (surface dwarf/vashoth).  It just all adds up to make an elven playthrough uniquely weird at times.

Search the boards where you think you might find something.

Hint: Not necessarily DA-related. Maybe that's why I'm under the radar. Plus, I haven't had much time. Well, I did, but writing that when I should be writing school stuff made me feel real bad. Gaming let me forged... I'm a mess.

Now i can see where Misoteru comes from.

Sigh.

What "background" makes someone gay or straight or bi?

This does not help me. There are literally, thousands of different places I could find your fanfic. Can't you just save me a century and post a link to it?  ^_^
